  1. Looking great, so far! I've been wanting to pick one of these up! Ohh, what did they do with the tooling that was clever?
  2. I've wanted to build one of these forever - love these little cars! I'll be watching!
  3. I enjoyed the Impala part of this project, but I'm REALLY excited to see the Vette part! ?
  4. @traditional - the flames on that burgundy car are INCREDIBLE! How did you achieve the white pinstriped edge? Looks PERFECT! Some great builds in this thread! A tonne of eye candy!
  5. This week’s cool (ish) sightings... This drove past our house - sounded healthy! I’m a simple guy - I see a Miata and I take photos like it’s a Ferrari 250GTO that I just spotted ? Never saw that plaid trim on the doors on one though, I assume that’s aftermarket And some high quality Hoosier parking that amused me Coloring inside the lines is hard ?
  6. That’s also how you get an old rare kit that you’ve wanted forever reissued ??
  7. I don’t even want the pickup particularly, but I want the carts! ?. Guess that’s why they include them...
  8. Huh! Mine has got four of those on the shelves but I haven’t seen an Impala yet ?
  9. Then given some new shoes and sent back out again ?
  10. That’s a GREAT looking build - I love the olive accents especially, those really make the colorscheme for me @Dennis Lacy
  11. That’s just about crazy enough to work! Love it!
  12. So many amazing builds in this thread! Just finished this gluebomb “rescue”:
  13. I’d been wanted to build an AMT/Lindberg 34 Ford for a while, and also on my list of to-builds this year was something patina’d and some sort of hot rod shop truck. So, killed three birds at once and built this! ? Used a eBay gluebomber as a starting point, and tried to stick mostly to the stock variation of the kit’s building options, but with some little extras for my own amusement. Did a bunch of weathering with pastels and watercolors along with the salt technique for almost all the painted bits, built some better detailed interior parts, made a replacement bed from NYPD traffic barriers (an easy to find source of ‘free’ wood in NYC) and did a couple of little tweaks to the overall look to get what I had in mind for this one. Super fun build - just thinking of starting another variation on this kit, in fact...but man was my bench a mess after this was finished ? Thanks for looking!
  14. Thank you!!! Aww man, that’s gorgeous! Some lovely little details on that one! ? I can’t claim to be a master, but I appreciate the kind words as always! Thank you! A little more benchtime on this one this weekend...actually had less to do than I thought I did ? Painted some wheels and tried fitting the chrome hubcaps as AMT intended (which didn’t work - anyone building one of these, I recommend just snipping the backs off and lining them up yourself) Picked up some of this nice rubber hose from Hobby Lobby for my radiator hoses (thanks to whoever it was on here who suggested this stuff) Works great, and looks good to my eye And then most of what was left to do was getting the body and bed finished off and in-place...finished pics Under Glass shortly. Thanks for all the kind words on this one everybody! This one was a blast to build! EDIT: finished pics here:
  15. I never met Ted but I admired his work and always enjoyed seeing it - and I’d love to see more if anyone has a good collection of photos of his builds
  16. Thanks buddy! I’m just learning this stuff, but it’s fun! A little more progress today - got the headlamps all weathered (ruined) and ready to install... Couldn’t find a matching pair in the shop I guess, had to put a white one on the one side ? Weathered the chrome bits separately to help the pieced-together look: Used some washes on the lenses too to age the glass a little: Excited to see them on there once the Future I used for the clear parts dries... Did a little work on the frame too, starting to piece that together: You can see the nice clean newly-refurbished Flattie in the background there ready to drop in once I’ve painted the last few parts for that...it’s starting to look like a thing though! ? More soon!
  17. Did a little shopping at Hobby Lobby - was hoping to find another Revell 29 but they’re out of stock in all my local stores AND online apparently...a 34 pickup made its way home with me instead tho. Also, some cords and wires for detailing, a bunch of cheap Washi tape for masking and their wall art was 50% off so I got a little sign too. Oh, and some Letraset!
  18. Ohh, that’s really cool! Thanks for the pics - going to check out the other stuff you have for sale now!
  19. Been messing for a few days with a trick to get a realistic aged, cracked paint finish - think I got it to work today! Took a few experiments but I’m pleased with that super-fine crackle type pattern ?.
  20. I don’t think I saw that before - can we see? ?
  21. A little more aging and weathering - have been prepping and priming a bunch of parts that I hadn’t handled yet, so haven’t had much interesting progress... Grill shell and insert: Gave the insert some subtle weathering over a bright silver base, and the shell itself is same tricks I’ve done on some of the other parts Starting to look like a truck! I’d been thinking of a way to achieve a cracked, almost blistered look to a paintjob and did some experimenting this week. I was trying to get a real fine cracked look, like when paint is ABOUT to fall off but isn’t quite there yet. I shot the underside of the floor on the truck with the usual brown base, added salt and then added a very thin coat of an enamel matt clear. Knowing that enamels and lacquers don’t play nice together I then shot a bunch of light mist coats of black over the whole thing, and got a real fine cracking of the top coat that I could then weather over: Really pleased with the extra texture this added - will definitely be developing that trick for future projects. And, seeing as this thing won’t be a complete pile I’ve been slowly detail painting some of the moulded-in bits on the engine, along with some nice clean seats - because I don’t like sitting in dirty old seats, even when I’ve had dirty old cars ? More soon!
  22. Pfft, next you’ll be saying to read the assembly instructions ?
  23. Oh, that’s interesting to know - I almost picked up a couple to steal motors and suspension parts from!
