Stock '37 Chevy sedan delivery
Bainford replied to traditional's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just superb! That is a lovely delivery. Looks great as a '37. Excellent model building. -
Well that was cool. That must be about the wildest and most eclectic group of cars to gather in one place. To see them out there slipping around on the ice and snow is surreal. If this event was nearby, I'd have to have a go in the Europa. It would be a fun day, and a very cool group of cars to mingle with.

CarTech books. Quality issues.
Bainford replied to TonyW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I used to do a lot of mechanical work on other people's cars I avoided Haynes manuals whenever possible, at least for American cars (their manuals for British cars seemed to be better). Chiltons were everywhere, had comprehensive coverage, and were very well done. The absolute best were MOTOR manuals, if you could find one. A proper trade-worthy manual. I still have a few out in the garage. In the late 80s I was selling a tape deck to a friend for $30. He showed up with the money, but then waved a like-new MOTOR manual for '72-'75 American cars in my face and asked if I would rather trade. You betcha! Perhaps the best thing about Haynes manuals is that they cover many subject that the others did not, especially specialists books. The only manual I could find for Stromberg carbs is a Haynes, brilliant in some ways and completely misses the mark in others. The black & white on newsprint quality paper doesn't help. But, who else produces a manual for bizarre subjects like the Lotus 49. -
Cool! Nicely done. It's good to see one of these built. This was one of my favourite kits when I was young.

You must be getting tired. Here, let me bump this for you...

Man, that's looking cool!

I wish more vendors did this.

Reproduction decals

Does anyone know how to browse Chimneyville products? I can't find a website and google is being typically useless, tossing up all kinds of random ebay ads, etc. -

Great run-down. Very helpful. I have the Protar and the Fujimi in the stash. I've wondered how they compare. Hopefully one day at least one of them will get built.

Whoa, the Chevelle is out!? I got to go get one, maybe two.

OK, thanks John. I know the ones. I have a set fitted to a Revell '70 Torino. Nice tires, I wish Round2 would put these in more kits.
-
The detail on the kits parts is probably a bit soft, but looking at the excellent reference photos posted by Gerry, most of it appears to be there. The part #510 (fuel meter) appears to be a throttle body style fuel injection assembly. The throttle linkage/cable and fuel lines would attach to that. The kit seems to omit any kind of galley cover for the top of the engine block, so the nibs on top (for locating the stock intake manifold) may have to be removed.

Cool project.

The Hemi looks right at home there. What are the rear tires you are using? What kit are they from?
-
I missed this one first time around. Nice looking Monte, Tom. Looks very period. The wheel covers look 'right'. Well done.
-
That's one fine looking Caddy. Very elegant, and nice tidy work, too.

Yup, when tooling goes to China it's a one-way ticket. Eventually there is going to be a lot of abandoned tooling in China, and most of it will be up for grabs. Makes me wonder if one day unsanctioned kits will be produced from this tooling.

My 2 cents? I would lengthen the rear fender well opening just enough to expose the full diameter of the tire at the bottom, but not make the opening any higher than it currently is, and maintain the original shape/angle of the of the end portions of the opening . Does that make sense?

Nice! I have a couple of Tim's books, but have yet to pick up this one. I did not know MPC released a Sox & Martin '72 Cuda.

Revell 09 Challenger question. Am I an idiot?
Bainford replied to the60falcon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's hard to see what's going on here due to close photos and shallow depth of field. Are we dealing with three pieces here (body, chassis, and engine compartment piece)? First, place the chassis on a flat surface and verify it's not seriously warped. Post a photo. If this is three pieces, remove the engine compartment piece and see if the chassis fits the body. It appears the engine compartment piece is not fitted correctly, causing interference. Does it fit better if you try to fit the front end in first? It may also be helpful if you post a photo of the instruction sheet page. Alternatively, and this may sound silly, but is it possible you have the wrong chassis for the body? -
Indeed. I have had three of these kits. Two I bought new in the 80s had clear glass. I bought another off epay about ten years ago and was surprised (and bummed) to find it had dark smoke tinted glass.
