Hello & Pro Street Question
Eric Stone replied to jwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a street Hemi and DOHC Hemi in the Super Bee Pro Street kit. There never was a running one in real life but there are thousands powering little 1:25 Super Bees all over the world. -
Sweet! I'm glad the hacking I did wasn't a hindrance. I guess you won't be needing the extra Bee decals I had that I threw in.

Would it be possible to have a cheaper package for those who may wish to use an MPC kit as a donor, and won't need the hood, taillights, dash, front valence, or headlights?

San Antonio's ModelFiesta 30

I'm keeping this on the back burner, but realistically kinda doubt I'll be there since it's a 4 hour drive from Houston. -
What engine is this?
Eric Stone replied to Bruce Poage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Got a pic? Could probably ID it for you, but I don't have the kit to look at. -
If you can manage to chip, scuff, or scrub off some of the paint and then soak it some more, it'll help get under there. Right now your paint might be acting like a hard candy shell... Most of the time Duplicolor comes off in dry flakes for me rather than dissolving or coming off like goo.

I've had good luck with Castrol Super Clean or some other equivalent purple stuff. Oven cleaner might work as well.
-
I'd say you're pretty safe going with parts from any 70s kit...
-
So you can use stuff that's older than '81, but nothing newer..?

Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
Eric Stone replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
Wow... We can call that one a Crapri... The windows are huge. I can picture eyes on the windshield like a Cars character. Thanks for the review/heads up, and best of luck polishing that turd! -
Maybe see if your local library has any old car mags available to check out or at least look at. See if you can buy up old mags on eBay for less than a mint. Hot Rod and Car Craft would be great. With a little bit more info, folks here might be able to help. What type of build and what year are you shooting for? Any preferences on wheel types?

Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?

You can find some reasonable ones on eBay. I remember now that I got my Snake Bite at a swap meet at a contest, and got a pretty good deal on it, but there are some on eBay from time to time. It seems like the Snake Bite and the 79 Cobra are the cheapest and most common of the MPC early Fox kits. Sometimes the SVOs pop up for a deal too. The few priced Buy It Now for over $50 have been there at that price for at least a year now. -
My Favorite Resin Casters

I got Ed Fluck's chopped '37 Chevy coupe, and it's gorgeous. I'm trying to get the parts together that I want to use with it, and pick a color so I can get to working on it. -

They always go over budget... If you're not dead set on having one of the kits, box art, etc, but want to build a Pace Car, you can get the MPC Snake Bite Cobra kit and a set of Pace Car decals and build one. Buying those two items will probably be cheaper than most Pace Car kits you can find. -
Cats in the model room
Eric Stone replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Floyd usually hangs out in here when I'm in here, but he usually remembers he's not supposed to get on the desk, and he gets yelled at when he starts poking around the open closet where the kits are stacked. When I'm not in here, he gets kicked out, and the door is kept shut. Unfortunately, there is no place he can't get... I've watched him jump from the floor to the top of my 6 ft. tall entertainment center before. I hope he never realizes he could leap onto the top my head if he wanted... -
I don't think it's right
Eric Stone replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dealership general repair rates are around $100/hr here in Texas, if I'm not mistaken. Hey, what about dog shows? Are they cheating if they didn't build their own dogs? -

Cheated by who? SOMEbody built the car, even if he's not the one who entered the show. The current owner didn't magically wave his checkbook and make things appear out of the ether- there was some guy spending hours in a shop somewhere to make it happen. The result (the car) is what is judged. The winning car beat the rest of the cars according to whoever judged. -

What bugs me is when someone wins a small local weekend car show with a brand new car, sometimes still wearing paper tags, with absolutely nothing done to the car. You can't place the blame on any one party, since the owner enters it, the show organizers allow it, and the judges or people (depending on the format of the show) vote on it. Part of the problem lies in how they're judged- just going by the criteria on the judge's sheet, the car scores well, and beats out other cars. It's silly, IMO. Back on the original topic, I think the car is ultimately what gets judged- To judge the builder, you'd need more than one car's worth of work. You can't judge the owner- he's just the guy who has to accept the trophies and preps/cleans the car, which can also be a BIG job sometimes, but nothing compared to building/painting the thing if it's resto'd or heavily cusomized. -
Corvette C5-R Detail Pix
Eric Stone replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ooh, excellent! Thanks! If you don't want to right click, save as all those pics, highlight the whole mess of them, copy, and paste them to a Word doc and they'll all be snagged in one shot. -
I never understood why everyone types their message in the subject line over there. But we're here, so who really cares?
