  1. I thought I was the only one who ever took the time to do the homework and build this old IMC warhorse stock
  2. I use Photo bucket myself . The only thing I'll add is when you resize a picture , go NO LARGER than 80 X 80
  3. Pyro was state of the art for it's day . Sure , they fare terribly in comparison to models of like subjects molded in the 60's like Monogram's Cord . Still, no ONE has really gone out on a limb and tooled another Auburn or a 1948 Lincoln .
  4. I voted a 41 because the United States knew in advance cars were going to become scarce . There aren't enough 42 models to be significant Shown , a 1941 4dr in the wild
  5. Richard makes a GREAT point ! I use the "Frosted " cellophane tape for "Two tone Paint " jobs .
  6. No wonder I have COPD ! I know I was NEVER careful with these Thinners as I painted cars for Earl Schieb and later I owned a Silk screen shop where I never even bothered with even a Paper respirator. I believe I can get the thinners you still need via a Dupont distributor I know . If anyone needs my office phone or address , just P-M me
  7. I have followed Mark now for years . He has been an inspiration to me , ( Not in modeling , per say ) but the tenacity to make a dream come true . Yeah Mark , as I lay dieing in 2010, I KNEW I HAD to make a decision . Your unending attempts at resurrecting Promotional s sort of "Sparked " me to go further and do more , THANK YOU ..................................
  8. If I weren't committed to doing two dioramas for an invitational show for November , I'd be sorely tempted to undertake this .................
  9. I build build very few as I mostly do Diorama work . I guess I might have five dozen built s . Now Unbuilt , I estimate maybe 400+
  10. Anyone who knows me personally KNOWS I refuse under ANY circumstances to business with EVil bay or Krack List . I abhor Pay , ain't my pal and the rest of the "Big boxes . The problem is here in Central Virginia is we have two Hobby Lobby's scattered inconveniently for me to reach , two Hobby town USA's where they could care less about what I buy or need . Lucky for me , I have unbuilt kits from the last Hobby store we had until I guess 2012. Now as far as scratch building plastic , that has gotten to be a game of "Catch as Catch can .
  11. Maybe it's over for you folks in the warmer climates . The warmer months for me allows me to do a great deal of work outdoors and that includes SMELLY Fiberglass work ! This is a 1-24th scale model of the "Former " Fish Inn . it was on Hwy 10 in Core de Adleline Idaho . A grease fire took it out in 1992 .
  12. Because so much of my work is Diorama related . the diorama comes first, then the small accessories to place in or outside . Then if my work area allows it , maybe a needed car .
  13. Here's what separates we Crazed Scratch builders from kit assemblers
  14. Lordairguitar , your wisdom continues to shine in the darkness!
  15. Stan , it's the SAME way in Richmond Virginia . We have Two Hobby Lobby's , two Hobby towns on either side of the river . The distance is considerable for either , well , for me . We HAD a "Real Hobby shop back in 2012. . Wal mart "Played " selling models in the area I guess a couple of years back . The selection resembled that of a Michael's . Point is , running a hobby shop has become so danged expensive , it's just not viable to have one now a days . I thrived on Hobby shops as I'm in the exhibit business and looking at some picture on line is not the same as having a piece in your hand . Course too, my business has gone to the South Pole in the last eight years as museums have just stopped using contract labor like myself too ....................
  16. I'm a "Former " smoker myself . I would actually try fabreeze , an air freshener and if that dosent work, spray the box , not the plastic with AXE deodorant . That is something my son douses himself with in the morning and I swear , that stuff masks near ANYTHING !
  17. I'm still wondering if AMT will ever do anything beyond the Die cast 1950 Studebaker Champion they did . Yes, this is a "Niche " model . Still, in a diorama , such a model commands a decent spot
  18. Michael, to answer the question of Hobby shops in Durham, I'm not a dang bit of good . I know I want DESPERATELY to get into Charlotte and stop into Dennis carpenter ford reproductions and save myself some heavy freight . Then too, if you DON'T stop in Winston Salem , you have BLOWN a spectacular chance to see Quality Oil #5, a 1930 Shell oil station that was restored in 1992 by the N Carolina Art college nearby ! The LAST Quality oil service station , or number #9 , a Conventional Art Deco building has become a HAVE to Visit BBQ restaurant !
  19. Funny, you mention that ! I have a four bedroom house , giant back yard and I'm dog friendly . Talk to me .........................
  20. Fall in N Carolina is a spectacular time to visit Raleigh or Winston Salem !
  21. Anyone have ANY news on competitions in W Virginia , North Carolina or Maryland ???
  22. Charlie , you always make such eloquent points ! Here is a Revell 1958 Austin Healey which was tooled in the same vein as the Ranchero
  23. Since A M T's kits are pushing the 30.00 dolla mark with taxes , I'm REAL careful as to where I'm spending . I'm semi retired now and I have a Special needs son . Raising a child on a single "Fixed Income " means I have to prioritize my spending . You young folks who have disposable incomes will see what I'm dealing with soon enough
  24. I had HIGH hopes when I met the owner back in 2007 . Being in a small business is brutal ! I have YEARS in the accessory manufacturing business and I can say with experience it's not something for the faint hearted
  25. I wanted to , HONEST! my truck is running on 5 outta six cylinders and the 53 panel is still out with gearbox issues . PLEASE send me ANY N Carolina contest flyers as I am DONE with anything in Virginia . We only can do IPMS and airplanes ...........................................
