Here's the next selection on the bench. Hasegawa Lamborghini Miura. In green similar to the one that shows up on internet so often. I was kinda disappointed that so much of the real car suspension is black. But it's pretty nice. And the way Hasegawa molded the engine compartment is fascinating. Looks pretty nice even though there isn't much to it. Standard stuff applies here - dull coat on the wheels and a few other chrome parts. Trying to do my normal detailing on interior. And like last time, I have pulled paint off when I removed the mask. Not sure if the paint was not cured enough, or contaminants, or what. IDK. Driver's side photo at front of silver part. I'll fix it when the green dries out good enough to mask over. I painted whole car silver. then the color is Testors enamel in "Custom green" according to the label. The color really doesn't pop on screen like it does in person. It did orange peel a bit but I didn't want to add more paint because it is already a little darker than I wanted. I may clear it and polish it. Or I may leave it. Not a show or sale piece, just a car for display at home. Tip: do not try to paint ANYTHING on the same day that you use flocking. Not the body paint - I learned that a long time ago. the door panels this time. Flocking needs time to cure so you can clean it up to get smooth chrome. Chrome on doors is Molotow brush painted. I'm going to be sad when my "magic brush" goes bad. My fine brush works so well. I do hate the way they made the vents by the doors. Attachment point on sprue is bad, extra sprue to hold the vanes all in place makes it hard to clean up and look nice and it's just so thick. And it's on the chrome tree. Most real cars this looks to be black. I thinned them as best possible.

My youngest son shows no interest in building models. Although he loves toy cars, 1/64 mostly, but he always looks when I do and has quite a selection of exotic cars and Mustangs and Camaros. And he will build a 2000 pc Lego set. The new Lego sets are probably closest things to models that will capture kids' imagination and focus. I did find a couple stalled builds this weekend that I may take up sometime.

Thanks everyone.

I'm old enough to be the dad in this situation and I would be honored if my kids took up my hobby. Not sure they ever will, but nice that you are.

I do like the Icons cars as well. Doesn't seem to be a real dog in the bunch. I have the red 67 GTO and a Crown Premium 67 GTO convertible. I like them both. And more easily affordable usually. I think the red 67 I have $15 in with it shipped to my door. Had to do a few repairs, but hey, it was too good to let slide. Took about an hour to repair.

Fake eBay "Special Discount" email -
randyc replied to ChrisBcritter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get buyers asking about the free shipping they got in an ad when I never offered free shipping. Ebay does some promotional things I think and doesn't necessarily tell the sellers. I don;t mind anyone making me an offer. Worst that can happen is we don't come to an agreeable price. But that does seem strange. -
Thanks. Yes I do love it when one comes together like I want. I've learned over hte years that going slow makes a difference. As well as having the internet to look at photos of how various parts really look. I keep my phone by me and google whatever I happen to be detailing. Like the interior parts. Really makes a difference being able to look at it and not have to do it from memory or guess.

Thanks! You guys really inspire me with your compliments.

Not too bad to hand it over. it's a friend/collector buddy. We're similar in age and we've told our wives to let the other handle our collections should something happen to either of us. So it's close by and I can visit it about anytime. Kinda like letting him hold that part of my collection. He has bought some Mint diecasts and shipped them to me to "hold indefinitely" as well. It works for us. And to me, the best part is the building.

I was hurrying last night. There are photos of the engine in the workbench posting. Thanks for the compliment.

I've been in graphics industry for 30 years. So I get lucky once in a while. LOL

I don't post many completed builds and have two for today. This is Revell's 68 SS 396. Nothing special about the build. The build up photos are over on the workbench page if you want to see those. I didn't do any interior or chassis photos of completion yet. I am looking forward to the 69 that I hope comes along next. These two latest builds I tried to smooth out the bumps and dimples on the bodies and scribed the panel and trim lines before paint. And I tried to do all the prep work for a good finish on the body. Guess what? all those guys that say prep is the key are right. I've had good finishes before but this really worked pretty well. Paint on this one isn't perfect, but the issues are my fault. the paint is Valspar gloss white with primer. I had it laying around. I'm not perfectly happy with it though. Not sure I would seek it out to use on models again. I also primed with Rustoleum gray auto primer. All decanted and airbrushed. I was very surprised that the decals conformed to the wheel centers and emblems as well as they did. A little micro set and micro sol helped. Chrome is combination of Molotow and BMF. I screwed up the taillight panel and ended up foiling it and then Molotow on the top of bumper. Gave them some variation, like a real car would have. Headlights turned out well too I think. A little black detailer liquid around headlights after gluing gave them a little more dimension.

I don't often post finsihed models and have two for today. First is a Fujimi Ferrari Daytona I built for a friend. He pays me to build and repair and modify models for him. He doesn't build. Just collects mainly Mint diecasts and now is getting into plastci kits to fill some holes in his collection. There are lots of other photos on the workbench page if you're interested in the build. I have license plates printed for this one, but they were in house and I was at my model bench in outbuilding.

Chinese tariff war and models
randyc replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I work in convenience store renovation and our BP suppliers have started showing the tariffs on the material quotes. LEDs and lots of BP canopy materials are taxed. Im sure the other brands are as wll, but BP is just showing it up front so you know what the increase is for. -
yep. NICE! I especially like that striped Mustang.

ALMOST THERE! All that's left is the door handles, mirrors, and touchups. My BMF is acting weird. Not sticking as well and leaving adhesive residue. Wipes off with rubbing alcohol though. It may be getting old. And the white is from a can of Valspar gloss white with primer in the paint. initially, I liked it. But, it seems like it still is the slightest bit tacky. This paint is at least a couple weekes old and has been accelerated in the dehydrator. I kept the white and black stripes intact on the sheet if anyone needs them. Just shoot me a PM and I can put them in an envelope to ya. Hopefully finish this evening, if we don't have anything come up to do.

I built one of these when they first came out. Can't find it now. I may have given it to a relative? It builds nicely. So this should look good when finished.

Nothing wrong with box art colors, especially when they are at least close to stock like these. Looks like an attractive build.

Bowman Gray Stadium Modified
randyc replied to DRH_97's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Why "what might have been"? Other than the livery. It looks just like the cars that ran in the 90s and up other than they run wide fives. I haven't been in several years - last trip didn't end well; made a vow to never return. Looks great for a BGS car. -
I saw the Inogen ad. Then the article on the "most wanted" where there was also the demographics of the respondents. The age of the respondents correlates with the age group of the ad I guess. And it's a full page ad, so I guess they made good money for at least that issue. Maybe MCM needs more ads like that? Unfortunately. I don't like it but part of the price of being able to move along I suppose.
