STEVE SCOTT ,A.KA . [ UNCERTAIN T ]
Krazy Rick replied to bpletcher55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At least with the Garbage Truck, you get a couple garbage cans, surfboards, wheels, and a hot 1/32 70's style dancing chick ..... to be fair, the UT does have a few useful parts as well -

Very true Art, the thing is, other than a very small circle who are amazed by this kit, I doubt there would be much interest; if there was....you'd think that Monogram would have considered it by now; as they have with a few of the other older subjects. -

Well, yes... he may be an approved target of slander; but officially, in his mind; he's the ultimate stranded Hawaiian kustom car SuPeRsTaR -
Thanks for sharing this Safak - looking forward to seeing more

I really hate ALL these "Retro Looking" cars, no matter who pumps them out, their trying to appeal to those 50 & up who are attempting to revisit "the good old days" ...... to me, if it has air bags & a computer and you can't work on the engine - it's garbage, by them sticking a name from the past on these "things" & pretending it's the real deal; is a joke. I don't want gadgets, trinkets, Wi-Fi & all that other jazz; and I like to feel the road - I'll stick with the heavy metal originals & avoid all this new junk / plastic gunk .

If your looking for a fast project, go with the Nova, or the Color Me Gone kit.

Removing Tamiya Tape residue
Krazy Rick replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First off - NEVER leave tape on "a few days" !! , take it off carefully ( by slowly pulling it over itself ); the longer you leave it, the more chance for the tape glue to react with the paint below, ( which probably was be still gassing out- the paint solvent evaporating; as in your case here ) ........ again, the best / easiest way to tell if your paint is cured, is to smell it; if there is a smell, let it dry until there is none; then do your taping. anyway - let this dry a couple days & try Ronson lighter fluid, it works - but be gentle; put a tiny amount on a piece of T shirt cloth & it will do the trick; first test it in an inconspicuous place to be sure it's fine with this paint. - good luck. -
Reshaping plastic ?
Krazy Rick replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try putting it in the middle of two hardwood pieces, clamp, then place in a container of super hot water & let it cool down - that should work fine. -
I should add one thing, you want to drag the stiff dry brush over your surface, using the flat /side of the brush, remember your not trying to paint in the usual way, you want to drag it over to just hit the top of the pattern & pick out the highlights. Once you get the feel of it, you'll get it every time - glad to see your carrying on !!

Don't be afraid, try acrylic water based paint - it will wash off if it doesn't look right to you, lay on an even light wood, tan base color & just dry brush ( using a stiff brush & a darker brown shade or whatever tone you like ) ...... the trick is to put a tiny amount of paint out & just put a very small amount on the tip of the brush .......... blot your brush on newspaper, so it is very, very dry ( and hardly showing much paint at all as you are brushing it on the newspaper ) ..... & then lightly drag the brush & allow it to do all the work & pick up the wood grain pattern. This can also be acheived on a surface without the woodgrain pattern molded in; simply by moving the dry brush in an "S" pattern & a reverse "S" pattern. a small dot here & there using dark grey, or black can duplicate knots, or holes ( imperfections), which some woods will have. When done & your happy with the wood, let dry & top coat with a clear flat, or gloss acrylic spray ....go to Walmart & check out the craft section for the paint; they have it all. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it !!

I know the last post was way back in Feb/2014 , great info. I am just getting around to looking at this to build, I'm not 100% sure what I'll come up with, probably a 70's street rod - I have enough parts to piece something neat together, some of the Blue ribbon kit ( body, fenders, etc. ) & a panel body ..... I'll have to do something with the roadster body as well, it's really a very nice piece also. I noticed that the padded roof isn't correct in the kit, the vinyl should extend to the rain gutter; on the kit body, it's only on the flat part of the roof. For some reason, the windshield frame fitting in from the inside seems odd to me, but looking at the instructions online; it looks that that's the case.

I could never get past that "door / rocket thing" either ...... not the best well thought out engineering - actually really, really stupid
-
Don't let this little setback get to you now - get some strong tape ( like duct tape ) & just pull up the decal - it's looking way too good to set aside this far in !!!
