  1. Some very interesting ideas/methods in this thread. Unfortunately some of the pictures are not showing up. Any way to correct?
  2. Well, there might be a slight change of plan on the boat. My good friend Alex and his wife plan on moving from the east coast to the west coast to be with their daughters (my god daughters). In the course of winnowing through about 40 years of house contents, Alex found and sent me a large amount of stripwood which I am now thinking would work as boat planking instead of the cedar cigar wrappers. We shall see! Also, since the Dodge power wagon has become a major project in its own right, i think I will start a separate thread for it, with updated pictures.
  3. That is a great piece of modeling history! Thank you so much for sharing this!
  4. Thanks much to everyone involved in providing us the forum. Even when the magazine was on hold, the forum was always there. Now that its back as well, we all have twice the fun! I think covering forum builds in the magazine is a great idea!
  5. Looks fantastic!
  6. I too like to play around with options- everything I end up not using goes back to the parts stash. Sometimes a new direction or combination becomes the lightbulb moment. I'm liking the paint color- what is it?
  7. Charles, that would be fantastic!
  8. David, that sounds good.
  9. I love this project! Great imagination to see modeling possibilities in a totally unrelated object! There is no junk- only salvage!
  10. This is an inspiring build- I have one I want to make into a rolling shop- but instead of your beautiful shiny paint it will have a well worn look. I like your detailing as well- great little truck!
  11. Here is the situation- I have a power wagon model I want to strip without losing the lettering. The existing lettering appears to either be tampo printed or maybe a sticker, possible with clear coat over it. I use oven cleaner to strip paint- is there any way to mask or otherwise preserve these areas? Any advice appreciated!
  12. Here's a couple of mine:
  13. Bill, you are so welcome! Trade with you any time!
  14. They're taking over...... Looks almost normal as you enter- The workbench is pretty typical- But then you see it- It's taken over the floor! But- there is SOME order in chaos! Stash, and more stash- Built models- Part of the junk yard- A little reference material never hurts- That's all for now! Oops! Charlie, our boycat, A.K.A. Charlie Kool Kitty, practicing to be a hood ornament!
  15. Thatz4u, I did complete a channeled 32 Ford 3 window with a piston shifter sometime before Lady Luckless- Remember the MPC "hollow baloney" tires? I used them in the front and the first Batman Batmobile tires on the back. The engine is the dohc king of the hill Corvette engine, but retrofitted with a big blower and dual 4bbl carbs, and a Ford logo between the cam covers! Here's some pics:
  16. Does anyone make photo etched lettering or decals or rub on transfers for the old Dodge power wagons?
  17. I'm liking it- keep us posted with progress pix!
  18. Chris, thanks for the link! Looking forward to pix of this installation. Here is something to consider- these superchargers were usually crank driven through a gear train- check out Novi engine photos on the web.
  19. Employers give you schedules and deadlines, modelers give themselves fun!
  20. Rusty, just checked on the net, definitely the '63.
  21. Great save of an old original build- I really like your weathering!
  22. Chris, that is exactly what I had in mind! Never knew this part existed! If you have this kit, are you planning to not use these parts(the carb looks great too)? I hate buying a whole kit for a few parts with no interest in the rest of the kit. PM me if these might be available!
  23. Michelle, you model cars and space ships- When will they get sucked into a wormhole and end up combined? Great model of the USS Wellerman!
  24. Update on the truck, boat, and trailer project- added an external keel to the boat, and the cockpit areas are shaping up. Decided to completely disassemble the Dodge power wagon and I am now in the process of grinding off all the screw bosses- the holes will be filled once I remove the paint with easy off. Also removed the big door hinges and plan to fabricate door hinges from brass strip. I grafted the power wagon transmission to the hemi from the 53 Studebaker and plan on a major weathering job. Check this out in the pickups and light commercial section. Progress on the egg crate grille and the car behind it has been slow due to more putty sanding than I originally expected. However I have resolved the tail light areas and found two parts I can use for lenses. Oh, and I bought and traded for some additional kits- Hudson Hornet convertible, some 49 Fords and Mercuries, a Chrysler 300, a Chevy SSR, and a Willys convertible- and I still have a few more in mind!
