I read Poodle Springs in college and I enjoyed it greatly. I'll have to check out Perchance to Dream. Come to think of it, I need to read more Raymond Chandler. Great build so far, Mike. Will this be gracing our presence at Classic Plastic this year? Charlie Larkin

Linberg kit releases
charlie8575 replied to jphillips1970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I might go pick one up to build one of the Flintstone or Hendrix vans with. I have a Little Red Wagon already that I plan to build as a regular truck. Charlie Larkin -
I wouldn't mind a new kit of a 1965-66 Chrysler of any model. I always thought those were one of the best-looking cars of the 1960s. Dave, Art- taking notes?:)I know where there are a few you could probably arrange to measure up and photo if interested. Charlie Larkin

To create or not to create?
charlie8575 replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Christian has made the point I was going to make quite eloquently. There are so many ideas out there that you can adapt techniques from one aspect of modeling to another. Sometimes, just looking at different things can provide the inspiration you need to get a project moving, too. Charlie Larkin -

Hudsons
charlie8575 replied to Modlbldr's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
The Hudson-Essex-Terreplane Club's national meet is what you came across. It was held in Spokane, Wa. from Aug. 2-6. We hosted the national meet here in 2008 and had in excess of 500 Hudsons. Charlie Larkin -
I've been hoping someone would do this, even in resin. What a nice-looking model. One of my friends in high school's mother had one. White, blue interior and landau top. Very pretty car. I'm guessing a B-body chassis would be a good start for the chassis? Any ideas for wheels? No matter, I'm going to buy one! Charlie Larkin

Is this a Revell Ram GTS (I think that's what it was called?) the pickup with the Viper engine in it? This is quite an undertaking. Good luck with it and I'll be watching. Charlie Larkin

Would there be a call for these?

There's one way to find out: determine your price point and give it a try. Charlie Larkin -
Would There be any Interest?
charlie8575 replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with Mark on one thing: if Revell can learn how to cut a body mold for something besides a slab-sided car, do one of the Colannade body cars, I always thought they were really cool looking. I like the idea of a Le Mans, with the parts to build a Grand Am or Can Am included (hello, 3-in-1! Remember those!?) and if that happened, I'd buy three to build one of each without thinking about it twice. Want to do something really cool? Go for the 4-in-1, and include the parts to build a 1973 GTO. Do that and I'll buy four. For the record, I'd also gladly pay an extra couple of dollars (not ten, maybe $2-3,) for photo-etched scripts if they decided to go that way so people don't have to be "bothered" sanding off scripts. I really don't like decalized scripts, except for ones like in the '66 GTO, where I can put them over a 3-D molding. The Rallye Olds would be cool, too. With a little jiggery-poke, you can get a standard F-85 coupe out of it and have a real mainstreamer. The 1969-'72 Chevelles and 1970-'72 GTO would also be interesting. As for a Laguna- yes, I'd buy one. Especially if a kit of the super-rare Laguna wagon was made. I'm not kidding, they offered Laguna trim on the coupe, sedan and wagon. I saw one wagon in a junkyard many years ago, and have regretted never taking pictures of it. An El Camino with Cabellero parts would also hold interest. Charlie Larkin -
Epilogue: Two days in Bleche-Wite got 99% of the paint off. Good enough for me. I'll just have to use Testors enamel primer to make sure I don't get any unpleasant surprises from the Plasti-Kote, and we're back in business. Charlie Larkin

Scratch built Uptops for convertibles
charlie8575 replied to Lownslow's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Great idea. I might give this a try if I'm ever in need of an up-top for something. Charlie Larkin -
On "Brand X's" forum, somebody did a beautiful conversion of this body into a regular road car. Go look it up, it's well worth studying. Someday, I might actually give it a shot, too. Charlie Larkin

Kieth Resin 1965/66 Dodge CrewCab
charlie8575 replied to RodneyBad's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That is very nice. Once a suitable chassis is nominated and I have some extra money, I could see myself buying one of those just for the neat factor. Were any Dodge pickups of that vintage besides the A-100 made? I would need to see if I can find a box for it. Charlie Larkin -
Trendy kits = goodby original
charlie8575 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmm....maybe it's just my mainstreamer thing kicking in, but, yeah, I'd've bought a bunch, including one to try and make a wagon out of (Taurus wagons in these parts were, and still are, EVERYWHERE.) I know...not a typical high school kid thing (point of information: I was late high school/early college when the X-Files was on, I never really watched it.) Charlie Larkin -
'97 F-150 with trailer
charlie8575 replied to Airfilter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice build, and a very nice choice for a picture on the trailer. Charlie Larkin -
That looks much better. Took a nice build and improved it ten-fold. The 1990-91 SHOs, as I remember, were available in Oxford White, Light Titanium (silver,) black and Electric Currant Red. I think all had a titanium interior, which is a very light silver-gray. One of the Tamiya light gray military paints is a pretty good match for it. They'd have a darker gray dash. One year (1990?) they only offered a black interior. Charlie Larkin

Very nice work, Mike. That's a nice color combination, as well. Charlie Larkin

Crazing occurs when there's a bad chemical reaction between paints or paint and plastic. The results can be anything from a cracked finish to plastic being etched to plastic or paint actually dissolving. Charlie Larkin

Nice build, Bob. And as said before, Marcos, I like your. I'm going to off-topic here because it's a question I've never had a good answer. What exactly is a "Cafe racer?" It sounds like it should be a speed-demon waiter on roller skates at a large Dunkin' Donuts! Charlie Larkin

I voted other: BRG/Tan hides. Sorry, but an XKE just does not work in any other combination (at least to me.) That said, that very soft yellow with black is also quite pretty.

I was trying to figure out what that color was. Very nice work. I am curious, though. Is that pearl green lacquer? Aren't you a little concerned with it crazing the Krylon enamel? Sometimes, I wish I built more customs, playing with colors like that can be fun. Charlie Larkin
