Hit me hard...been a fan since I first heard 'Little Red Corvette' at age 12 on the radio...his music has long been part of the soundtrack of my life. Saw him in concert twice...heard about it at work this morning, been listening on my phone all day to various Prince tracks...and that incredible Super Bowl half time...

Honda Odyssey
Rob Hall replied to martinfan5's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Neat...it's the Japanese market Odyssey, more of an Accord tall wagon than a mini van...nothing like the US market Odyssey.. -
What did you see on the road today?

Saw another Lamborghini Murcielago roadster today, this one black. 2nd one in the same week. Also saw a black BMW i8 and a white Alfa Romeo 4C. -
And there is also Fort Steuben and Steubenville, Ohio...my hometown and the hometown of Dean Martin...both places also named after the Baron.

Steig Larsson, Henning Mankell, Jo Nesbo to name a few I've read. I started reading them with Larsson's Millenium Trilogy ('Girl with The Dragon Tattoo' books and movies) and Mankell's Wallander books (two great TV series based on them). I also like Swedish and Danish crime TV series.

I like Ellroy. I've read most of books. Crime fiction is one of my favorite genres, I've read most books by Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, James Patterson, John Sanford, Daniel Baldacci and others. Also been into Nordic crime fiction the last few years.

Currently reading 'Sophistication & Simplicity:The Life and Times of the Apple II Computer' by Steven Weyhrich. An excellent history of an important computer and the people behind it. Also just finished 'Trigger Mortis' by Anthony Horowitz, a fun James Bond novel set right after 'Goldfinger'.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
Rob Hall replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Apparently, the Mustang had it under the dash also through '70 (and presumably the Cougar did also). I've been around quite a few '65-69 Mustangs and '67-68 Cougars in my family, never realized that...then again, the wipers worked on those.. -
When watching NASCAR broadcasts in the mid 80s, I always thought Bill Elliott needed subtitles..very strong accent.
-
Neat...I'll have to go there and the one in Boulder, Co.
-
My sister lived there 8 years, never picked up the accent, never was mistaken for a local..that was after a decade in Arizona (no distinct accent here either, at least in Phoenix..then again, most people I know weren't born here).
-
Gillian Anderson, she was born in the US, but lived in the UK as a child, and has lived and worked in the UK since the X-Files went off...I've seen her on British TV shows, speaking w/ a British accent.

Weird..seems like an impractical place to mount the wiper motor..wonder why they did that. -
Anyone have any real insider info on Revell's "new" '70 Charger?
Rob Hall replied to Monty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hopefully they will revise the grille before release..seems to be missing the texture..or the pic is low-res and I can't see it. -

Saw a bright yellow Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, rollin' w/ the top off... -
Probably..my parents both went to college, and I went to college in NE Ohio and grad school in Michigan..

Accents are likely a result of generations of people living in a certain region, developing 'localisms' in words and pronunciation. I've read that American regional accents have diminished as people are more mobile, I certainly see it of people my generation that have moved around a lot.. My parents were from rural Kentucky, but spent most of their adult lives in various parts of Ohio and S. Florida..growing up w/ them in E. Ohio, I didn't really notice any accent--compared to my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents that lived in various parts of Kentucky and S. Indiana. I did notice distinct accents from people in my area from the West Virginia panhandle (just across the Ohio River) and from nearby Pittsburgh. I spent my jr high and high school years in the Florida Keys, around a lot of different accents because so many people weren't from there...then as an adult, I've lived in NE Ohio, SE Michigan, Colorado and Arizona.. People think I'm from California, I guess because I have a neutral accent--kind of a typical American TV newscaster accent. I worked with a lot of Canadian transplants in Colorado, and several words always stood out for me--about, out, process, and Java (the computer language)...plus their generally higher alcohol tolerance.

Thougt Bon Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young were born in Scotland and Brian Johnson in England..
-
Yeah, accents are an interesting topic...I've never thought that I've had much of an accent...if it comes up in casual conversation, people always seem to guess I'm from California, though I grew up in E. Ohio and S. Florida, and as an adult I've lived in NE Ohio, SE Michigan, Colorado and Arizona....

I knew about 'Oz'.....I've worked w/ Aussies and Kiwis before, and was able after a while to distinguish their accents..similar, but with subtle differences...
-
Neat. The funny thing is I'm pretty familiar with Australian Terriers (had two) and Australian Cattle Dogs (my Mom had two), and those dog breeds are referred to as Aussies by their fans, but never heard them referred to as Ozzies.

My brother has that Danbury '65 GTO...I got it for him for Christmas back when it first came out, similar to the 1:1 '65 he had 35 years ago...
-
I saw the subject line, thought it was about bands that Ozzy Osbourne was in... I definitely like INXS and Midnight Oil, as well as AC/DC....lots of albums of INXS I like..particularly 'Listen Like Thieves' and 'Kick'...

Something to look forward to...
