This is just sad...
Rob Hall replied to pharoah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I couldn't imagine collecting cars without proper garage space. Having them outdoors rotting is a junkyard of sorts.. -
Hmm..good question..not of the rationale for the yellow fog lights..better in fog that clear whitish light? I know that with my cars with clear fog/driving lights they can be turned on with the low beams or parking lights on. The yellow fog lights on my sister's old M-Bs can be turned on when all the other lights are off also.

No doubt... my sister and brother had a lot of family adventures in the '60s before I was born...my Dad worked for the US Government and the family lived in the South Pacific for several years..Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, the Philippines..they moved back to Ohio the year before I was born.

Heh-heh...well, true. But I did have an opportunity to live in Saudi Arabia as a kid (my Dad was considering a job in Riyadh, we went over there for a week, my Mom didn't like it). Earthquake zones may be in my future..I like San Diego, Orange County CA, LA, Portland and Seattle and they are great places for my kind of work w/ a lot of culture and interesting weather and scenery, and a bit cheaper than the SF Bay area (I've had several interviews and job offers in the San Jose/Sunnyvale area in the past but timing/etc wasn't right). I'd like to live in a coastal area close to beaches again.

Sharp build...I remember liking that color back in the day..

Nah, career and life......born in Ohio, folks retired to the Florida Keys when I was 12, so went to high school down there, back to NE Ohio for college, Michigan for grad school, lived in Colorado for over a decade, now AZ.

It's interesting how much larger it is than the regular 500..even the badging is larger, I think..was behind one in traffic tonight..interesting how they intertwined the '500' and 'L'. Though I think they should have called it the '600' like the vintage minivan..

Yes...I've lived in an area prone to hurricanes and flooding, an area prone to tornadoes and blizzards, a place prone to ice storms, a place prone to blizzards, and now a place prone to dust storms/haboobs and extreme heat. Humid places, dry places. Sunny places, cloudy gray places. Hot places, cold places. Haven't lived in an earthquake prone area, but maybe that's next..wherever you go, there you are.

The constant presence of sand and dust is one the things I hate about living here, along w/ the summer oven heat..got to get away. I don't think the desert is fit for human habitation...LOL
-
Yes, dust storms or haboobs are no fun..we get huge ones here in the Phoenix metro area occasionally...had one yesterday, I wasn't out in it though...pretty windy today again...

Sounds like it won't be out until at least June (not on the April or May release lists that I found).

I have an empty box for a '60s era AMT GT-40..was that a slot car kit rebox or a rebox of the IMC kit? Maybe Heller (did they do a GT-40--I know AMT did rebox some Heller race car kits--I have an AMT Porsche/Ferrari set). Though they are curbsides, I do like the Fujimi ones..have a couple of them. Also have the Revell-Monogram (Aurora) one and a couple of the MPC Mk IVs. I also have one of the IMC kits that was built then dissasembled, needs restored.

Yes..with women I've dated in the past, I haven't critiqued their car choice and they didn't mine. My money, my cars, my hobbies...their money, their cars, their hobbies.

Sharp..I like the color and bumperless look...

Agreed...that resin body is excellent. I have one, the subtleties of the decklid shape and C-pillars look correct to my eye and my recollection of my 1:1 back in the day..

That's the box art the new reissue is using also. The Barris Cruisin' USA issue from around 1980 also was 427 only also IIRC. I assume they were that way since the kit was backdated from the '67 annual.

Take a zero out and move the comma and the price would be perhaps more realistic..it's just a 302 automatic w/ an AM radio and some custom wheels, not even a Mach 1. Without the wheels and paint, it's what, maybe a $5000-10000k car? A base '72 fastback...

AMT Chevelle chassis question..
Rob Hall replied to Rob Hall's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Cutlass chassis does fit well. I'm mentally going to through my inventory to figure out where I can source the rear suspension, exhaust, and driveshaft from without buying more kits for parts for a resin build.. -
I have multiples of all of these kits, but none are handy to check....IIRC, the '69 Chevelle SS hardtop and convertible has the driveshaft molded to the chassis. Does the AMT '70 Chevelle kit also have it molded in? How about the '72 (which was reissued maybe 7-8 years ago, not sure if that kit was based on the AMT or MPC tool).

I saw that somewhere..which is very strange, considering the diecast companies like Mattel and Maisto already have them out. But given Revell's usual slow pace it probably wouldn't be out until 2016..
-
That looks like a nice area...about the highest points I've been to in your fair state are the observation decks in a couple of Chicago towers...the John Hancock Observatory and the Skydeck..

When I lived in Colorado, the big snows were usually in late March or April...

Nothing else in plastic that I know of...ERTL/American Muscle did a 1/18th diecast in the last 10-15 years, IIRC...or maybe it was Highway 61. In 1/25th there have been a few resin '71 and '72s made, though.
