Biggest pet peeves on builds.
Jordan White replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
F. I'm sick of trying to build on a 1" x 5" area at the edge of my desk because I have parts and tools taking up the rest of the area ? -

Is it a law of modeling that your desk looks like a war zone only mere hours after you've tidied it up? -
There's also a difference between wanting new kit subjects, and wanting the new subjects that are being released. I want to see new issues, and am glad to see something unique, but this Santa Fe is not one of the subjects that I would like to build. That's not to say that I dislike them for releasing it, but rather I just won't purchase it. DukeE can stick with his reissues, and I can equally gripe that most of the reissues don't interest me at all lately.

Alright, got a bit of a start today. Got it torn down, and started with the chassis. I had issues getting the chassis apart to clean up, so I grabbed a torn down chassis from another Italeri kit (the benefit of them using the same chassis for multiple kits). I did add the rearmost brace from the wrecker kit however. Luckily I also found the instructions for both the wrecker kit and the donor kit I'm using. IMG_1361

BRBO 2020
Jordan White replied to gotnitro?'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yup! I’ve got it mostly torn apart so far. -
My entry for the 2020 BRBO is a rebuild of the Italeri Ford LTL9000 Wrecker. I built this probably 15 years ago or so, and am wanting to rebuild it. I'm planning to modify the wrecker body a bit, give it a cool color scheme, and give it some wheels and tires from Scenes Unlimited to replace the clunky kit wheels and tires. Here's how it is starting out:

I do like the detail opportunity with the 1/12 and 1/8 scale kits, however I think the 1/16 scale is the perfect blend between ease of detailing and ease of shelf space. That’s not to say that I don’t have my share of 1/12 kits!

I find nothing wrong with “worst of” threads as long as members aren’t bashing each other or each other’s opinions. I also find nothing wrong with criticizing the accuracy of kits, since it gives those who want accurate kits the means to make it look better. Plus, with the rise of computers and the internet, the model companies should be held to higher standard when it comes to new kits since they should have no excuse for errors.

How are Aoshima/Fujimi/Hasegawa kits?
Jordan White replied to dmthamade's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Aoshima kits are IMO second to Tamiya in terms of quality, and are generally consistent in detail and ease of assembly. Fujimi tends to be hit or miss when it comes to detail. Their Suzuki Jimmy kit builds up really nice and is on par with Aoshima, while their Land Cruiser 80 kit seemed to scale out around 1/21 or 1/22 scale and was meant to be motorized, which meant poor chassis and shallow interior. -
2018-2020 Dodge Challenger and Charger

There are several modern subjects I can think of off the top of my head that the manufacturers could have success releasing, but it’s easier for them to just rerelease older kits it seems. -

One of my big pet peeves while building is thinking that the paint or glue is dry, but then you find out the hard way that it isn't! -
According to someone on IMCDB who claims their dad owned the car, this is pretty much it. Also, apparently the stereo didn't work so they had a boombox in the back seat playing the music! I would think though the wheels and tires would be more playing to the idea that Billy still thinks that look is the "cool" thing.
-
Yeah, they are the 8-spoke chrome truck-style. The wheels from the AMT '80s GMC truck kit would scale out to around 20" in 1/25 scale (since they are from the 1/20 kits originally), but they are 8 lug so you would have to modify the center hub.

I thought about this thread the other day when I started working on (or rather fixing the mistakes on) the AMT 1978 Ford Pickup "Super Stones" kit. The box art clearly shows a 133" wb long box truck, and yet the kit itself is (IMO) the ugliest and worst looking of all the configurations, the 140" wb camper/trailer special. You can't make a regular long box or even a short box without a bunch of scratchbuilding, since the passenger bedside has the internal mounted spare tire, and thus the internal bed sides are completely different. At least the Model King issue used box art of the actual kit. After looking at the past kits on Scalemates, it looks like they used the regular long box on all the box tops. However it appears the original release, at least, does show the correct kit truck on one of the box sides.

True, it may be more locational nowadays. My comment above though doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see more 1/12 kits, I actually have around 14 in my collection. I'm on the same page with a 1/12 MOPAR, though I was thinking maybe a '70 Cuda based on their recent kit.

These days, 1/8 and 1/12 kits are a hard sell, and it seems rare that more will come out unless they are older kits that they rerelease. I really think Revell needs to re-release some more of their 1/16 kits, as well as make new ones. They are only slightly larger than the popular 1/18 diecasts, and they still allow for more detailing like the 1/12 and 1/8 kits.

I bought mine from an art supplies store since they had the full range of colors and styles.
-
Meng is also coming out with a 1/12 kit soon, however it should be a little cheaper since it will be all plastic.

Another thing I'm not sure how many people know is Molotow makes their paint pens in other colors, not just the chrome that is popular here. They are a bit pricier than just using sharpies, but I find they coat better. I have a 2mm satin black, a chisel-tip satin black, and a 1mm white.

Wheel/tire combo question
Jordan White replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Joseph will, he's good about that. He may not get back right away, but I've always gotten a response back from him within a couple days. He's also a member here, Chief Joseph. -
I just saw this thread since I didn't realize this was the 1/16 kit until now! Do you have any pics of the engine before you put the body on? Also do you have a pic of the underside at all?
