Whats your favorite brand of car?
Foxer replied to Jared Roach's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like cars that seem to be built by people that LIKE cars. That has led me to buy German and Japanese vehicles more than anything else. My first concern is the ride and handling. Floating is not in my vocabulary. That pretty much leaves American cars on the floor. I know they have improved in this category a lot in recent years, but they still don't understand compliance. Just take a Porsche out for a drive to know what compliance is all about .. good handling that doesn't take your teeth out. I like power, but it isn't necessary to have an over powered car to be fast. Most of the cars I've had came with 4 cylinders and a good many I considered fast. My current G37 Infinity is probably excessive ... 330 HP that puts most old muscle cars to shame and it's only a V6. Just don't all hate me.. I still love ALL cars! -
I like the look of it and can see all the work in it!

85 GMC Van 8/9/17 Fixed for Fotki
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just saw that I never mentioned the starting kit ... the AMT A-Team Van, which is an '85 GMC Van with the grill and headlights I need. You TV fanatics can just cry ... It's getting butchered and rusted! The body is the same as all the previous Chevy vans but doesn't have the window impressions inside the body for easy cutouts. Not a big deal and a Chevy Camper would have made my job easier... but not for the $300 wanted for the only one on ebay! -
85 GMC Van 8/9/17 Fixed for Fotki
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
All the stickers in the back will be done with decals. I took closeup photos when she had it with the idea of making it in 3D. That never happened, but now they come in handy. The window stickers are not clear in my photos so some will need to be recreated for the decals. -
Since it's almost fall. it's about time for me to start another project BEFORE finishing anything! This is my daughter's old van she had in school about 8 years ago. It was a 1985 GMC long wheelbase G3500 1 ton with the 8 lug wheels. After another post searching for the kit and pieces to start with, I got many responses with all the info I needed from the great members here! Here's a few photos of the van as a reference for the build here: I got started with the interior first, which I thought at first wouldn't need any modifications. Come to find out, the dash and console were all wrong so I got the dremel out and started grinding away. The console had a straight slope up to the dash and the dash has small flares on both sides that incorporate into the console. The photos at least show the amount of mods needed to fix this. This is still in the works, so more photos on next post. Start of interior mods: Console ground down and top dash lip extended: Framework for console face added and dash face mocked up" I welcome all questions, comments, or criticisms

That's a great way of handling that paint job with the stripes! And, the story gave me a good laugh.

How can I print topic for future reference?
Foxer replied to bigmikevee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It will probably take some work in order to edit it. You might find just hitting Print in you browser is easier. I use Word to save things like this and other word processors will work similar. Some I'm sure won't. I copy and past the pieces I want and edit out things I've captured that I don't want in Word. This lets me grab larger pieces at once to paste into word. Word will put the actual photo in rather than the link. It also displays Emoticons and text sizes and colors as they are here in the forum page. You'll have to test your word processor as to how it handles various web things. -
That came out great! Looks like the multi piece body was divided at just the right places, right on seam lines.

Going Blind (I guess)
Foxer replied to ratnasty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys just don't get it! I have worn glasses since I was 8 and now it's 64. But ... I finally got cataracts and had both lenses replaced in my eyes. Now I have perfect vision! You're all just too young to have good vision! -
Defiantly of the right flavor and I like the color.

Great detailing there. It defiantly has the Look!

Very nice, Kris. The larger images are a welcome addition and finally show your great products to the level they deserve. -
Hi from UK newbie
Foxer replied to 57peppershaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome and that's pretty cool having a '57 Chevy over there! Since my return to the hobby in the '90's I've been building the cars I've owned since I stopped the first time in 1962. I've managed 2 of my Porsches, VW Rabbit, '68 Beetle, '53 Beetle, '92 Subaru Legacy Wagon and my two Army rides .. an XM474 Transporter and an M35 deuce-and-a-half. On the bench are my Dad's '92 Crown Victoria, wife's '95 Subaru Legacy Wagon, '91 Porsche 944, '69 VW Beetle, '51 Plymouth, 2003 Infinity G35 Coupe, '56 VW Kombi, '67 Pontiac LeMans and a '67 Triumph TR4a. So, you might say I like to build my 1:1 cars! -

I was all set to make it but the grandson took that slot and will be heading to NJ that weekend. The nearest shows seem to be the ones I can never make.

Nice job on the realistic look to this! It makes me groan as I just started bringing a '32 Chrysler back from the dead to be resurrected as ahot rod.

The dirt looks good on this ... what did you use for it? -
A couple nice builds there. I almost didn't click here thinking I'd see something much newer.

That sounds like another slippery paint job, Peter .... !

GMC Van parts
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I thought the dash had the basic shape from photos I had seen, but will have to wait for my A-Team (YES-- I found one!) van to arrive. Those mirrors are funky and thought I'd have to make them. Thank's for the heads up on the 4x4. It's down to just the wheels now. Easiest way may be just to strip some old steelies and add the bolts to those. Well .. tires. They are 8.60x16.5 LT's so I'll have to find some large ones somewhere. Probably not a lot of people looking in here anymore, but if anyone know's who casts something similar in resin, please let me know. Oddly, most resin casters seem to neglect to give the ID/OD of the tires they cast it's very difficult to tell if they will fit ... and sale LOST! -
I am Korben Dallas and I approve this message.

Come in Everyone! What's your 1:1?
Foxer replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had five 944's and they ARE reliable. Never seen the paint do that, though. How many miles on that puppy? Nice thing is the galvanized body keeps most rust away. -
Thanks for that explanation. This is why I love this place .. something new to be learned every day.
