I remember driving State of Connecticut Highway Dept. black Lark sedans about that age to go everywhere during a summer job in college. They were about the slowest things ever, but they got us to the shopping centers where we sat in desk/chairs and recorded every license plate going in and out. We went all over the state and never broke down.

This has 50 photos of old cars taken with their owners. Pretty interesting shots of people and their personal autos.

I see that amber tint also. Some have said Laser Bond is clearer but I haven't tried it to see the difference.

I too started building after a 30 year lull when my son was about your son's age. Alas, he never got hooked, but I DID again! Hope you have better luck, but our kids are their own selves and I wouldn't trade him for anything.

I use Bondic a lot for small parts and no mold release is required. It is advertised as a "glue" but it hardly sticks to anything. It does come out with a slightly sticky feel and clouds when touched so a spray with acrylic clear takes care of that. This stuff is so easy and quick to use that I don't get why everyone keeps looking for something to cast small parts when this material is available. It should be in everyone's toolbox. Resin is the most user-unfriendly material I ever used ... unequal mixing ratio, VERY expensive, especially for small parts, as shelf life makes me throw out 95% of it, bubbles everywhere to fix, wait for it to cure and just plain nasty stuff, IMO. I use Silicon rubber 2-part molding putty

Assuming you are talking about 1/24, even twice that size, I believe scripts are just too small and thin to be 3D Printed with current printer technology. The roughness from printing would be very apparent on so thin a piece. I have used Shapeways to print some small light housings and a script may be possible to pass their minimum thickness requirements. It would be interesting to see just what you could get through their checks. The light housings were approaching their limits and they came out well with just some light sanding to smooth a few areas. Note the thinness at the front edge of the grey pieces below. Two of these housings with a connector between them was just over $5 plus about $5 shipping. Model is 1/24.

I use an un-affordable 3D Max, but I've heard many good things about the free Google Sketchup and would recommend trying that one. Most 3D programs will all do what you need and it's the UI that makes the difference. There are a number of Shetchup users here who I'm sure will chime in.

Good to see this all shop tidy in one place. The detail is out of this world! and it got my vote.

I also have a Silhouette Cameo available, my wife's craft cutter,and I find it of great use making curved sheet patterns. It cuts styrene sheets well and will score thick sheets, especially useful for repetitive patterns.
