  4. I'm stuck. I will have FS1. I currently don't get Fuel/FS2 or NBC Sports or even ESPN Classic. Guess I'll spend more time building.

  6. Okay...... Let's look at this discussion one more time. First.... A lot of gassers ran without their front end on. They'd show up, look over the competition or the national records (which figured into the head start on the Christmas tree) and decide they had a better chance to win as an altered. They'd shoe polish over the numbers and become an altered for that meet. Another option would be modified sports (?) which was the home for MGs, Austin-Healys and Corvettes. It should be noted that the NHRA merged the MS cars into gassers (with full fenders and lights) into the gas class around 1968. Finally remember that the rules varied from the association NHRA or AHRA and individual circuit or track. One constant was the cars had to have a square or rectangular stock type frame (which means several of Revell's Gasssers are really altereds). Class designations are also a moving target. The double lettering for blown cars changed yearly and from association to association.

  10. $1300 is about $600 too high. Too many kits with limited value. About half are Nascar. Its hard to tell about the decals. $1300 is a fair retail price but too much for a reseller.

  12. Anyone have a source for decals for the Firestone Drag 500's? I'm trying to build a couple of cars where they ran these tires. I think the only kits that had these were the two sided Jo-hans (Goodyear/Firestone) and the Revell Ed McCullough Revellution which are great slicks except for the dreaded split tire design. I think I'd be much happier modifying a set of Goodyears into Firestones.

I've tried to find pictures of Dyno Don's Pinto but can't. The early 70's were an era of experimentation. Most of the early experimentation used ladder bars like the Logghe funny cars. By 1973-74, four links were common under Chrysler cars. If you would tell us which car you were working on, maybe someone with specific knowledge on that car or vintage articles could confirm the actual set-up.
  14. Candies and Hughes always ran very fast cars that were show cars.
  15. The first pro stocks were modified super stocks. The first heavy hitters were Sox and Martin with a modified stock chassis. Others cars of the first two years were modified stock chassi with wheel tubs and roll cages, nothing approached the full chassis cars. NHRA allowed tube chassis mini cars such as Pintos and Vegas with small blocks. This changed the game. Suddenly modified stock chassis cars were two tenths off the pace and obsolete. Most of these cars used either square or recutangular main frames with round tubes replacing everything else. These were full race chassis with the cages tied in both the front and rear suspension. Grumpy's cars were always at the front with chassis design while Chrysler seemed to have more body mods such as relocated wheel wells. The late 70's cars had chassis very similar to the Monogram pro stocks. If you have an early Monogram pro stock, the Fords were Don Hardy designs. The Camaro/Firebird was an Alston chassis. The big difference between these designs and the late 70's designs were the use of A arm suspensions. By the late 70's they were all McPhereson struts like the Monogram kits. The Alston chassis was modified during its production run with the addition of a funny car cage.

  17. I'm not a fan of over zealous zoning laws but when a neighbor's actions causes destruction to your property, they serve a vital function. I believe you need to deal with this in an aggressive way. Your Mother's property is becoming unfit. I don't know the government in your area, but I do believe a lawyer needs to be consulted. In a really off beat suggestion, call your Mom's insurance agent and ask them how you should handle the damages. They may give you the most direction as to how to care for this problem.

  19. During the forum off time, I started building the old MPC Don Garlits rear engined dragster. I have a goal of making it accurate. To this end I've replicated most of the chassis in Evergreen rod. I'm looking for detail pictures. I've done extensive Google searches as well as pulled my old copy of Hot Rod where Don and the dragster were on the cover. If you have any shots from the museum or other displays of the car or other shots showing details, I'd appreciate them. Thanks, Mike
