eBay Scammer Afoot!
Dave Van replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Newbie has the same protection if they follow the rules as us that have been on for 20 years. The scammers are hoping they can get the money, withdraw it before they are discovered. IF they do ebay and paypal take the hit.....but it is such a small percentage overall.....it's considered 'cost of doing business'. End of the story.....ebay sellers stand to loose MUCH more than any buyer ever can. Just use your basic living skills. -
eBay Scammer Afoot!
Dave Van replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I agree it looks 100% like a scammer........as a BUYER it is VERY difficult to get scammed on ebay.....if you have an average IQ. I have been using ebay since 1998 and NEVER been taken as a BUYER. I have been inconvenienced a number of times......last time was this week. I bought a socket wrench organizer tray. Seller was a scammer, I never got it.....filed a claim and got my money in four days after ebay delivery date was missed. SO I was out my money for a week or two....but got 100% of it back. So was I scammed or just inconvenienced??? I have been scammed a few times outside ebay by people stealing my money when I ordered something and never delivered.....bet most of us here have. But never on ebay.....is ebay perfect...NO......but I do not worry much about any scammers. -
I have a paint booth (just came in from the garage using it) I built mine and it has a very high CFM fan but any good booth will work. Mine vents outside and I can't smell paint after I take off the mask. PS if you make a paint booth make sure your fan can operate with a flammable paint. Mine came from a industrial printer and is safe in any environment.

IF they do like the original issue it had some NASCAR parts included. Basic roll cage, seat and other items.....about 50% of what needed for a good Cup car. They included wheels and tires that were WAY to narrow.....but could be used if it didn't bother you.

The Tom Daniel kits 'slowing down' is due in part they re-issue the same ones over and over. Bill Lastovich was the last PM that saw value in the kits. But they were kits not seen in many years. The TD Dog Catcher was on the schedule but was dropped. Horn Toad is another that would be a good one to re-issue. Lack of sales is more to do with the kits picked than the category.

Good stuff....... Baja Bronco......Look at the trees on the stock kit. No inside here......but I always saw a Big Oly type wing in that empty spot on the chrome tree. I doubt it would be a Big Oly because nothing from the stock kit to make a 100% accurate Oly. I think Revell will give you some key parts and how far you go is up to you. I look forward to it.....or seeing what it is.

I have decided to build many of the 1988 NASCAR Winston Cup series cars. I call it Project '88. I picked 88 for a number of reasons....most obvious is all the bodies were made in plastic!! I hope to build 20+ of the cars that year....split between the famous and the unknown. Rusty Wallace Pontiac is number one. Box stock other than added package shelf. Penngwen Hobbies decals, Tamiya and Dupli-color paints. DNL tire transfers. Thanks

A decent little kit. 1/24 scale if that's an issue. I've built a few of them....and bought a few DONK issues just for parts.....at $8 each. No issues building....Normal 80's era Monogram kit. -

Guy across the street when I was in HS bought a new LTD II just like the one above. I LOVED that car.....thought it was so cool. I've been hitting up Revell for a 77 Thunderbird in the style of the 77 Monte Carlo kit.....I think it would be as popular and a sales hit. -
Nice work!!!! RM needs to tool that body for their 70 Torino kit.....

Our hobby shop was open on Sunday's back during the boom as we had good sales during races. When JD McDuffie was killed at Watkins Glen I was working......I went and pulled all the JNJ decals and the two built up kits we had for sale along with a few die cast.......within minutes we had a stream of customers looking for JD stuff........it got so bad we started calling these customers 'Dead Guy Stuff Hunters' ...... I am working on three Cup kits right now filling holes in the collection of cars important to me.......

My two lots I sold were NO NASCAR too!!! A little insight. The NASCAR kits are great kits. The Monogram kits are some of the best of the era. BUT...the kits were produced by the millions. When I ran a hobby shop in Charlotte every Monday we would order 3-4 cases of Monogram #2900.....DE Sr Monte Carlo kits. Model builders alone were not buying this many kits.....EVERYONE was buying kits. After a good race Sunday.....mom's and grandma's would come in and buy a few kits. Closets were filled with NASCAR sealed kits. It's just supply and demand. I was involved in the NASCAR plastic kit biz during the boom era. And thus want to have a mint sample of all the kits made. I found I needed 3 sealed kits to fill in the collection....all three were found for $5 each....and I was happy!! I still like these kits and they represent a great time in my life.....but there are just too many to make them valuable.

Good luck Mike.....in collection sales and in general........ Wayne....pretty sure I have every issue of Scale Wheels....it was a good effort. I was not a founding member as at the time I had 3 kids, house and two cars and only I worked......$5 was a lot of cash at the time!!! But Bruce P. Scott A. and many other folks were fellow Charlotte modelers. Thanks
