ONE bottle of PLEDGE in Prescott !
Dave Van replied to 1972coronet's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
My So Cal buddy does car restoration and has to drive to AZ to buy paint supplies. Seems kinda stupid to loose sales/tax but it's the least strange thing CA does. Good you found a bottle. -
Ollie's strike again
Dave Van replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So is Atlantis making kits for Ollie's now or is it overstock??? My store did not have those......I'd like the rank from the kit! -
Ollie's strike again
Dave Van replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All the kits I bought were manufactured in Sept 2022, so to me it seems these were made just for Ollie's. The instructions and decals on the 32 Ford have a 2010 copyright on them......which I think was the last time the kit was in the catalog. My store had the SR-71 snap kit too. -
Ollie's strike again

My Ollie's had a good number of kits. 99 Cobra, Dodge P/U, Viper......... I bought a 32 Ford, Lambo and Cobra Mustang. But @ $13 each it adds up fast......but since MSRP on new kits is $40 it's a 3 for 1 deal??? UPDATE: I notice ALL the kits the Ollie's price sticker is UNDER the shrink wrap. Are these kits being made just for Ollie's??? Is Ollie's unwrapping each kit, price sticker on and then new shrink wrap? I bet they are being made for Ollies......they are all tools/kits not in the current line or even of late. That sticker under wrap is gonna make it tough on the re-sellers!!! -
Ollie's strike again

Thanks for the info..........$13 is a lot more than the $76 that Ollie's charged when they started dumping kits!!! If I see the 32 I'll pick up a few I like the klit..... -
It's not so much Salvinos is manufacturing models of 'RARE' cars.....but rather are producing so few of each kits as to make them 'RARE' in hopes of selling out before production. All this to help the hobby. Monogram made as many of each kits as they could, thus kits got into as many hands as possible. And yes, I know it was a very different era......but limiting a production run to very small numbers is not 'helping the hobby'....rather creating demand as they did with sport figures before. Good luck to them, I am moving on to areas of the hobby w/o this scheme. Rumor has it Tamiya may be looking at American vintage road racing kits.

Salvinos biz model of 'Super Duper Ultra Rare Limited Run never to be seen again' is growing old fast. At first I bought one of each to support hoping they would get better with each kit. But this biz model has driven back to vintage F1 models. I ain't getting into a fight to get a kit. Add to it the claim they do this (limited) to help the hobby?!?!?!?!?!? ?

The slow progress is my fault. After doing so much body work and mods to the SHADOW body I figured I could go right to the Tamiya white primer and skip my Dupli-color #1699. WRONG!! Even with all I did I still got some fish eye in the primer. So I had to strip that and shot a few coats of #1699. Some wet sanding between coats, front wings installed and rear wing assembled I did make SOME progress from the last post. Waiting on TS-14 gloss black to arrive in mail.....did not know I was out!!! Thanks for looking.

April 1st 2023. Fast Trax Spring Con. Salisbury NC
Dave Van replied to H.A.K's topic in Contests and Shows
Nice if info can be posted. If it's a PDF open, print to file and post jpg image. -
I bought this off ebay 15-20 years ago. When I got it I saw it was so crude I put it in a box above my workbench. For some reason I pulled it and a Tamiya Williams kit down and started working. The no name brand kit is still crude but not so bad it's not buildable. LOTS of sanding, shaping and drilling. IA number of parts are 'THEY GO OVER THERE' with no hint of exact location. So I am pinning most parts. Thanks for looking.

Why so few American Motors kits?
Dave Van replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 72-74 Javelin was available first as a promo, then as a 3 in 1 stock, custom and funny car.....all in one box.....think about all the parts left over!!!!! AMT reboxed JoHan kits and offered the stock and Trans Am version. By the time the kit was done there were 6 versions......I am missing the funny version only. We need a new tool of the car. Stock, drag and Trans Am.......... -
Why so few American Motors kits?
Dave Van replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
JoHan was the AMC kit maker. They did a LOT of AMC kits.....but they would cut up the 1967 Ambassador to make the 68....so the 67 was gone forever. They did that a LOT so all the Javelin, Hornet, Rebel etc kits are gone for the most part. I am bias......I own two real AMC's.......
