'51 Chev replica of legendary Vancouver BC custom
Phildaupho replied to Phildaupho's topic in Model Cars
Thanks guys - I saw these cars originally at shows back in the early 1960's so it is great that they have been revived. They made a big impression on me then and now so I had to build models of them. -
'51 Chev replica of legendary Vancouver BC custom
Phildaupho replied to Phildaupho's topic in Model Cars
Thanks everybody. I have been on a Jack Williams building kick lately. This is the third replica model I have completed in the last six months of cars built by the late legendary Vancouver BC master engine builder and bodyman Jack Williams including his his Syndicate Scuderia dragster. If you liked the video about the '51 Chev, check out the video about his dragster - linked below. -
This a replica of a ’51 Chev custom completed in the early 1960’s in Vancouver BC. It has been owned and preserved by the same guy the last half century and has recently been restored. It was a relatively straight forward build based on a resin trans-kit mastered and cast by Gerry Chevalier of Mini-Exotics fame. This model represents the second color and wheel combination for the car. The paint is Testor’s Colors by Boyd Orange Pearl Enamel. For more about the ’51 Chev - check out this video.

Well built. Very attractive. -
Your Coupe is looking fabulous. Brizio built a gold 36 chopped 3W a few years back for Jorge Zaragoza
-
This going to be a '36 3W just like the one I'd like to build someday !!

Looks fabulous. I always enjoy your builds and write ups. -
Thanks every one. I had not noticed that this had gotten bounced forward. As an update - at Deuce Days in Scale 2016 I happened to be near the model when I saw a couple checking it out. I started telling them about the real Orange Crate when they told me they knew the story because they own the real thing and had recently flashed it up of the first time in years. Cool !! They ended up taking it to Santa Barbara for the first west-coast T.RO.G drags and giving it a good run. You can likely find a video of the on YouTube.

Corvette Grand Sport #4 Okay you asked for it. Your post made me wonder when I last did an update as it seemed like a long time ago. It actually was over a month ago but only one page back. Because the deadline is so far off I guess no one is feeling much urgency. Since that last post I have completed two other models and started two more. I have never been able to find the full story on why Hall & Penske decided it was better to tape over the hood louvers when they were installed to exhaust under hood heat and air pressure which caused the front to lift but I have always preferred the look. Rather than install the complex photo-etched louvers I decided to close the openings from below and then fair them in. Once painted I will cover the areas with white tape. The Hall/Penske did such a good job taping over the louvers that in most photos the taping is impossible to detect.

Yours looks great. Having owned a 9-window sunroof almost 50 years ago when I saw this kit I had to get it. I put it together with the grandkids awhile back. I was very surprised and pleased how good it looked once completed.

Great color combo. -
You really captured all the elements for a gorgeous 60's mild custom
-
I continue to be so impressed with the quality of your models and photography, both absolutely top notch.

There are some really great parts in the Ala Kart kit. I have used the chrome reverse wheels and white wall tires on a number of builds. Most recently I used the suspension components, exhaust system, steering wheel and taillights on a Deuce 3-W.

I was fortunate to go to his solo concert that last time he played Victoria in 2016. His songs, voice, guitar playing and stories were still just as amazing as when he was a young man.
