Custom hood issue - Final solution
Erik Smith replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What about a cowl type hood with the same contour line as the front fender in your photo? You could keep the lines of the scoop consistent with the front end. -
Great work. Beautiful model. I like your chrome work - the hood in particular.

Silver paint on the back side...I didn't know they were doing that kit in metalflake! Cool!

How to make the model sit square on all 4 tires
Erik Smith replied to abelaxe's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The metal I use is for nailing joints of roof rafters together - just flat metal with holes in it. I got it at Home Depot and taped it to a piece of glass I got at a glass shop (I used to use it to sharpen wood working tools). I don't remember where I got the magnets - they are about 1/4 inch thick, 1 inch tall, and 1/2 inch wide. -

Very cool. I like how you did the wheels. -

Drill out the wheel holes a little larger than the pins and glue the wheels on with 5 minute epoxy - I use a metal plate with magnets to hold the wheels square and the oversize holes allow some adjustment of height. -
New cars introduced today.

Wow. 700 pounds lighter? That's really impressive. The truck looks so-so, not a huge departure from the current line of trucks, but the aluminum body - I could use that 700 pounds on my F350 work truck…All things being equal, an extra 700 pounds of cargo hauling ability is a big deal. -
I just voted real... Yeah, just for fun 'cuz this thread iz a zombie...

Yeah - I think a majority of modelers do "it". I once bought a large estate collection and the previous owner had hundreds - literally hundreds of kits started. He would open them, sand a few parts, primer a little, putty something, and put it back in the box. Out of about 700 to 800 kits, I bet 300 were started to some degree. I have about four at the moment.

Here are the Modelhaus 92-97 Ford Police wheels and caps: Not exact, but look okay. I don't know if anyone makes an accurate center cap for the Vic. Most also ran steel wheels with round holes - kind of like the wheels in the Revell Impala police car (like cheap "snow" wheels) - at least around my parts, MSP could be different.

That is one very beautiful model. I love the color scheme - black, chrome, and red - outstanding paint job too.

I like the skirts. I am 87% through a '57 custom too and keeping it mild - like a lot of the early 60s cars were. I think it's a cool "back yard" custom look.

I like what i see so far.... I am 0 for 2 with the CB CBP. I will hold off for a little bit, finish up a couple projects, and try to get something going. I will combine my club's muscle car theme into the build and, like Rob, kill two birds with only one stone.

I don't know if anybody else has said it yet, but that is cool Great looking model. Great work on the custom swap. You found something worthwhile for that old '67 GTO kit!

Very cool. Nice model. I like the orange on it. Great photos too. -
Ugh...what exactly is the point in cheating in a game with no prize? I like the game because, as Harry said, it's a challenge to get an idea and spend a little time narrowing down choices until...bam! I have seen some cars I never would have seen.

Haha - maybe a Chevette K-9 unit!

In 1975, the Washington State Legislature wanted to explore methods to reduce government costs, and with skyrocketing fuel prices, they encouraged the Washington State Patrol to explore more fuel efficient vehicles. The WSP contacted the “Big Three” and started a short term project evaluation with 8 vehicles - four from Chevrolet and four from Ford. Chevrolet offered the WSP four 1975 Vegas, each outfitted slightly different, to test the cars ability to reduce fuel usage but still be able to be used in the harsh conditions - and test the cars’ pursuit ability. The Vegas were given WSP state exempt plates numbers 900-903 (the plate number usually indicates general rank - the lower the number, the higher the rank). Number 900 was outfitted with the standard 140 c.i. 4 cylinder Chevy engine mated to a three speed manual transmission. Cars 901 and 902 were equipped with the 140 4 and automatic trannsmissions and outfitted with the upgraded GT suspension. Car 903 had the GT suspension upgrade but also ran the 122 c.i., dual overhead cam Cosworth engine. All four cars were tested for a short time period in 1975 but their overall performance was underwhelming and the fuel savings negligible. The project was aborted for both Ford and Chevroloet in the fall of 1975 and all cars were destroyed. This car is number plate number 900. It started life as a canary yellow promo that had seen some “play days”. I pulled it apart, cleaned it up, repainted (three times - that yellow plastic is nasty), added some basic police gear (radio from AMT Galaxie, light and light bar from Johan Fury, and made an antenna from guitar string). Decals were made on my inkjet printer. Wheels are from Revell 1965 Chevy truck. Tires are GoodYears from the parts bin. This is actually all made up - the car is a WSP "phantom" - as far as I know, there were never any Vegas in any state patrol line up…i'd be cool with being proved wrong! The project was inspired by Chuck Most's Regal police car - and the fact this promo has been staring at me for months...

Beautiful. Great work on the wheel openings.

Nice work so far - I like where you placed the separation line for the two tone paint. This is a very nice kit - even the rear suspension, with numerous pieces, goes together well. The couple things I didn't like - the clear part of the tail lights was a little small and the red parts were a tight fit - they actually chipped some paint as I puched them into place - and the black on the glass - one of the side windows flexed a bit on final assembly and the black paint pulled away from the "glass". Minor things...

The new app works...sometimes. I have to "copy" the image link multiple times to post a pic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have had issues with the earlier iPhone app as well - lots of error messages and multiple image downloads after it said it didn't work.

I would buy this ford if I had 4k

If you post on a public forum, it's expected you want conversation about the topic. Interpret it as "bashing", but understand it's not anyone's intent - we're just discussing the car. -

$4000? Yeah, no. That thing looks beat. All original? Front end doesn't match. Driver's door and fender look trashed. Dash looks trashed. If I can SEE that much in a few photos, hate to see what I can't. Did a quick eBay search: HERE is what 5K gets you there...
