"The Seven Trashcans of California" : My Photography
Old Buckaroo replied to 1972coronet's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Holy cow - Detroit is a mess to say it mildly without getting banned. 😲 -
That is a fine looking S&M Duster - one of my most favorite teams. You're right about the reference material back in the day, magazines consisted of a color photo on the cover if you were lucky and B&W pics in the article. The book you mentioned is awesome. I have an old S&M Duster build I stalled out on due to finding out the engines were painted ford blue by Jake King.

The 5th wheel looks 100% fantastic, I had to smile when I saw those hollow diffs - as I knew its only gonna be momentarily that way . Your scratch building skills are top notch! -
I really like this one. Having to cruise in a station wagon back in the early 80's would've been a lot cooler with a wagon like this!

Just another snap kit…

That's a real beauty, great color combination. Those snap kits are the best, so many things you can do with them. -

That is just crazy the amount of stuff like that out in the open. I like the idea of your book though When I lived in southern Nevada Id go fly RC Planes between Pahrump and Death Valley. That BLM land was nothing but a above ground landfill for stripped stolen cars, meth labs made in old abandoned campers truck and pull type. Heaps and heaps of garbage bags and bullet ridden appliances.. It was a sad sight to see.. -

Nice production line and the Hardee's car turned out fantastic. I have a couple of the Salvino kits but yet to crack them open. Ive been working on two Polar Lights Nascar Chargers off and on and they've been a challenge. -

Now that is a impressive truck. That Ford chassis has been perfect for a lot of those oldies. Ive always liked the original AMT kits over the round two, I like the harder plastic. The new ones remind me of rubber maid plastic when you cut or try sanding it. Have you decided on a color yet ? Keep up the great work 👍 -
Love the details you're adding. Reminds me of a buddy that would saw off the heads, valve covers, oil pans, ect and add a colored piece of construction paper to simulate the gaskets..... Gotcha thinking now don't I 😄

That is a really interesting picture from the dirtiest fuel tank Ive ever seen to the soot covered wall. -

Funny, when I saw the prototype truck pic I was thinking of the song "Wolf Creek pass" although they were hauling chickens instead of produce. Brian if you need a dual snorkel air cleaner for this let me know - Ive got some , or you gonna give it one of those nasty oil bath filter systems?? -

Brian Thank you I cant take the credit for that bug deflector completely. There use to be a seller on ebay "Spaulding Trucking" or something similar. He sold resin cabs and other parts. He had a mystery box of misc parts and what not and the first visor I ever seen was in that jackpot. So the modeler I was fabricated up a bunch - the see through plastic was file folder tabs that were made for holding small paper labels. The frame was aluminum tape for furnace repair or patches. I used canopy glue to stick it on. I ran across some the other day looking for parts, I was happy to see quite a bit of AITM resin parts, and stuff that KJ a fellow truck modeler had made. -

Thanks for all the tips, I actually printed out and saved most of that when you posted it over a decade ago for future reference. Ive got a notebook of nothing but model truck conversion, tips and other info. You probably don't remember any of my old work as its been a coon age, but nothing was ever box stuff. The razor saw and parts box were my go to sources. Ive got all the pieces for the torsion bar except that on piece that took a different route when I moved. Worse case scenario I can scratch build one. I always appreciated your info as you have done the research so many of us can just build. Thanks for looking in and commenting. I love those snap kits - the possibilities are endless with them here is a couple pics of one I sawed up😄 That paint scheme was actually from a truck featured in the show "Movin On." The mudflaps were not... -
Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
Old Buckaroo replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The work I'm doing besides getting them to move on their own power consists of replacing rusted areas with patch panels (minimal here in Montana) repairing dents, replacing bad body work ect ect . Cleaning and re seaming body panels, interiors are getting new headliners, carpet and seat upholstery. Engines are freshened up with the heads redone, new gaskets all around and auto trans are getting B&M shift kits. He keeps me busy. Our mission is to take these neglected , stripped of parts and turn them back into affordable drivers for those who love the muscle car era but can not afford a full resto car ( think military pay). Getting them back on the road is whats important. -

Now this is his collection of Mopar's that Ive been assigned to turn back into daily drivers. Not doing full on restorations but getting them back to where he can sell them to his service buddies and they can drive them and tinker with them as they like. Yellow Challenger 74 with 360 auto , 72 Charger 440 Auto, 72 Challenger 440 4 spd, 72 Cuda 340 Auto -

I went through this topic from page one, there are a lot of nice projects posted. Big cars and model cars have been a part of my life since I was a teen. Started in Jr High pestering the librarian if the newest issue of Car Craft or Hot Rod magazine was in. I currently have a yard full of project cars that belong to my son who is currently serving in the US Navy. He remembers all the different cars and playing in them as he was growing up. I thought I was done with the 1/1 but he had different plans for me. The 70 1/2 Camaro I built when living outside of Las Vegas as my defiance to the Honda Civics zooming by our house on a daily occurrence. He was in elementary school at that time. -

I vote round, flat fenders are normally affiliated with chipped up / rusty white wheels and day cabs. Not nice looking polished wheels from the construction company's Ive seen. My two cents -
What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Old Buckaroo replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Truck Freight from "Classic Industries" for the '69 Firebird ! (the cut wrap and box was done by me to check behind the dented cardboard to make sure there was no damage) -
I went and checked all my 1/24 kits , nothing at all for Crager's but the 1/25 kits have a good selection. If you are to a compromise best 1/24 skinny and a bit wider would be the Revell '66 Malibu SS but they are Centerline aluminum wheels

Hakan you are correct, I goofed on the original post but corrected it - hey least I had the right diagram ! I prefer the AMT kits, I never cared for the Revell trucks as I don't like their frames. While they may be more realistic they seem pretty flimsy. -
Howdy This truck is only in the planning stage right now - but I'm looking for help to find a part I need for the torsion bar suspension. Please see attached copy of instruction sheet, the piece I need is circled in red on one side and a red arrow on opposite. I don't care if its left or right as I I doubt the housing has the lug. If you have the broken remnant of "Torsion Bar" suspension with that piece would be ideal - I'm against robbing a perfectly good setup. The kit I will be using will be the AMT Alaskan Hauler as It still comes with the W925 hood. This will be my version of Sonny's truck I seen at a model show back in 1980 or so.
