  1. First off its been over 10 years since I built anything and posted it it here - Long story short a unexpected move and loss of dedicated hobby room. My workspace now consists of several tv trays. "MW Elky's" 1/4 mile cars kept my interests for several years of wanting to build "Pro Stocks" again. So with that intro here we go - Grumpy Jenkins was one of my all time favorite drivers , so I'm gonna build Toy V, Toy VII (show car), and Toy VIII Starting with "The Old Pro", last time I built this was in 1979, seemed like the most awesome kit back then as I made it with a lift off "fiberglass front". Now my opinion is not as such, backdating this kit made me wish for the Revell 69 Nova - but hey I'm using what kits I have on hand. The fenders - I think they are "Dynacorn" pieces (those of you that used the 1/1's will get it) The Camaro's are also AMT one full bumper with a L88 hood for VII, and the split bumper for VII. I have competition resin lump scoops but cant find them after a decade. I may scratch build the scoop. Here is where the progress is so far - Thanks for looking in!
  2. Sheesh - glad to hear you were able to disconnect everything for the next go around. Its been a few years since I messed with these but I did something along this procedure - I use to take and glue that linkage platform to the bottom of the cab with a bit of canopy glue or white glue. It would allow me to lower the cab and it would have a bit of flex also if it needed to move a bit. I would then use that as a reference for gluing the platform to the frame location. Eventually I quit using the weak kit hinges and went to aluminum tubing and mechanics wire ! If you are gonna weather your cab a bit I suggest pastels or the tamiya equivalent like the armor modelers do. Keep up the good work - I feel I need a tetanus shot from looking at that exhaust - there isn't enough structure to that pipe for the flex pipe to hang on too. Oh hey I'm in the planning process of building a 1960 KW coe
  3. That is a really nice Bf109 Airfix put out. How was the kit for assembly and such ? It looks like Airfix has really been upping their game You did a fantastic job on this , sorry to hear about your mishap. I had built an old Monogram one many years back and before I could take a pic of it for my forum buddies I had lost it - so I thought. My daughters big fat cat was sitting on it - the landing gear did not hold up to fat cat either.
  4. I never knew a lot of these trucks were ever offered in 1/32, let alone trailers - You've got a nice fleet right there and all of them look great. My absolute favorite is the Sonny Pruitt truck !! Top Notch work πŸ‘
  5. What a trio delight, I really like seeing your projects (1) you give the details to off help to anyone else wanting to replicate (2) they are just always awesome 😎 Thanks for sharing them , I bet your collection of built cars is something...
  6. I can honestly say Ive never seen anyone replicate that truck in 1/32 scale !
  7. This will be a very fun project to watch. I'll see if I can find that box of resin parts this weekend - I still may have some of those tanks. Too bad Terry doesn't post here anymore , he casted a lot of those tanks. What is the engine in the background for ???
  8. Wow what a looker , you've really upped your game on your model trucks. This is exceptional work and detail - the antenna really caught my eye as that is a item often overlooked. Good to see you posting - was worried you might had floated off after that last hurricane.
  9. This is awesome, great back story, good ole K-Mart where many of us bought kits and using reference material pre dating internet and use of balsa wood to make the nose & spoiler and then to top it off No decals!!! Bob I'm so glad you brought this out and knocked off the dust and shared it. Top notch work and sure doesn't look like a 38 yr old model.
  10. You must have a steady hand like a surgeon working with the P/E, my hat is off to you for having the patience. Keep up the great work !
  11. This is a great project you have going. I had to laugh at the thread title as I felt the same way about the 353 I built years back. Love the detailing you've added - keep with it, your almost there.
  12. Love the gold and black stripes. Every time I see that engine I can remember that cologne of grime mixed with a hint of diesel fuel.
  13. Ron I like it a lot - I'm glad you kept after it and brought it to the finish line I mean truck stop. Love the outside pics with the trailer. The three center clearance light - That's classy ? I really enjoy the builds that are backdated.
  14. That looks mighty fine to have started as a 1/32 snapper. You sir are a craftsman with great modeling skills. This truck and trailer combo is every bit as nice as a 1/25 kit. Best of luck with your move, hope to see you modeling again soon. I had to laugh at the kits in the "boot" I use to do that in order to smuggle them past my wife. She never figure out why Id take the trash out after dark. ?
  15. That turned out really nice, you called that one right on building and painting. Now you need to add a couple more to keep it company on the shelf! (armor models) Some of my most prized models are the ones my wife and kids bought for me !
  16. I think it looks fine , great save.
  17. Love the color of this car, and as iffy the decals were you did a great save. Nice job on another cover car and great back story on the family Vega..
  18. What in the world - two unmasking's in the same day , what a treat. Love the green and white paint, are you going to outline with gold ? Yes the camera can be your best friend or worst enemy for finding flaws you never seen till you post pictures ! Sheesh you guys are wanting me to build another truck model.
  19. Ron sorry that happened, but it is savable. Let the red cure, lightly sand and feather in the white, mask the red and respray the white again. I blew it big on a paint job trying new tape - you can see the nightmare here, but it worked out.
  20. It looking great, I'm with you on acrylics and never cared much for them. If you all can find it "Frisket Film" is a low tack adhesive film that I always liked for masking or making designs on models. It was originally designed for making photographs for airbrush touch ups. (sorry cousin Eddy - your out of the Christmas photo" ?) Another good trick is to use blue painters tape and stick it to a piece of clean glass or a hobby mat to remove some of the sticky then its not as apt to pull paint off. I did this when painting resin trucks as that's always a iffy surface. Keep the momentum going on this Pete !
  21. Here is a pic, the rivets are noticeable but not extreme. They become more prominent with older paint jobs as the paint wears off of them
  22. I'm placing a pretty substantial order on reproduction sheet metal. I learned the hard way during covid -I balked at the price for 72 Charger lump hood "pre covid" at $699. , then they were not available for 3 1/2 years. They came back in stock at AMD this summer and the price had went to $999. But I ordered it with some much other needed body panels. So im ordering everything else I need for the 4 mopars and firebird this week.
  23. Very nice looking truck, and you really did it justice. Love the old stripe scheme on it. It looks like it rolled right out of the sales brochure!
  24. @89Akurt - If I remember correctly the blue Coleman 243A can date back to 1939 That's a nice lantern and a great background story. I received my first Coleman lantern when I was about 9 years old from a friend of my dads that had served under Patton. He also gave me a Winchester .22 rifle at the same time as he told me "every boy needs these items when camping in the mountains" I still have both and use them quite often. But that started me into the rabbit hole of collecting lanterns, many would be saved from the dump as their last fate was yard sale fodder. I clean and restore them when the winter temps get down to negative twenty or so. I'm not even sure how many I have, my wife says I can hide them better than model kits! I'm sure a "Prepper" would be envious. Ive gotten two friends interested in collecting and restoring them, their wives are so impressed with me ! haha I hope you clean this up and get it working - first thing I would recommenced is a new leather pump washer and a gasket or O-ring for the fuel cap. Stay away from the rubber pump washers - you can find the leather ones on ebay reasonable. Coleman lanterns were well engineered, when you shut them off at night they burned long enough to give you time to get into your sleeping bag before everything went black..
  25. Nice builds, Dave was that a AMT kit or one you converted? I recently reacquired the AMC Matador kit , built one back when I was about 10 - tube glue and brush painted. I thought it was the coolest car with the Red White and Blue paint.
