Bartoletti Transporter and the Daytonas Coupe... Last Update 5/28
wisdonm replied to Brizio's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Try Indycals for tire decals. http://www.indycals.net/decals/tires.html -
I've seen guys engrave the plastic, then have it chromed. I've also seen guys engrave aluminum tape, for heat ducts, and then apply it like BMF.

Google Self-Driving Car..

All these driver's aids are just making stupider and even less attentive drivers. We can't afford to fix our bridges, how will we pay for the infrastructure nationwide? -
'53 Ford Phantom Dually

That is clean and original. -
That does look great, and well done too.

We used white contact paper on our race cars for years.

"May 21, 1972 was another last day of qualifying for the Indianapolis 500. It had been several years since Hurtubise had entered the race with any kind of chance to win it, lead it or even qualify well for it. For most of that time he had been engaged in a quixotic attempt to qualify an improved version of the outmoded front-engine "roadster" that had dominated the Speedway until the rear-engine revolution of the mid-1960s. With time growing short, there was a fever of activity around Hurtubise's Miller High Life Special, as it slowly moved toward the head of the qualifying line. The crowd buzzed. Would the old Mallard, as Hurtubise called his car in tribute to its ducktail rear end, get a chance to make even a ceremonial tour of the Brickyard? No. Precisely at 6 p.m. the gun sounded, locking in the field for another year. At which time Hurtubise removed the cowling from his Mallard to reveal neither an Offenhauser nor a Ford, but rather five cases of his sponsor's product, already chilled and ready for folks to drink. Which is what most of the Speedway officials soon did. Erk, erk, erk."

This is the same company that would not install a less than $5 camber compensator bar on the Corvair, and sold Fieros knowing that 40% of the rods were defective and causing 20 engine fires per month by 1987. I'm sure there are more examples of their greed before safety culture/business model.

I'm about 6 miles from Weissgerber's Gasthaus Wednesday night classics. However, there are about 5 nearby shows on Wednesday night, so I can't say I'm always there.

You guys talking about Gus's in East Troy? Great place, long ride.
-
I hope to be there for the second half. Although I live less than 1.5 miles away, I will have to travel over 1,500 miles that day to get there, as I am starting in Texas, and arriving in Milwaukee at 4:30. Hope to meet some of you guys there.

Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
wisdonm replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Indy 500 lost it's mystic appeal when it went showroom stock racing. I understand the cost issues, but that is the truth. They killed individuality from the cars and especially the owners and mechanics. Practices and qualifying used to be packed with fans eager to see if the cars with the new ideas could beat the old ideas. Now all you might get to see are new paint jobs and the fans have voted by not showing up. -
I second the '67 Eagle followed by the shark nosed Ferrari.

I know a guy that used to letter 1:1 racers. He now hand letters his model race cars. He uses the same 1-shot lettering paint for both.

Interesting, but wasted power with sleeper sized tires.

Chevy Vegas were shipped vertically
wisdonm replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is why the side-post battery was invented, so that the old style top-post batteries wouldn't short against the hoods during shipping.
