2020 Kit Development Update from Round 2

I whole heartedly agree on the Coke themed 68 Coronet. I wouldn't mind; I'd be happy to see it come out with Coca Cola decals and marked box. Would be a very successful addition to some of the other models coming out with the Coke theme. -
2020 Kit Development Update from Round 2

wrenchr "Has round 2 made any new kits or even new bodies in the past? From what I can tell they clean up molds/tools and tool some small new parts and reissue the snot out of it Coca Cola and everything else. If they have tooled new kits what are they? Or even an all new body? Don't get me wrong this has allowed me to buy kits I would not have spent the money on old issues in the past but it seems like they are exhausting what they can reissue that has not been touched in a long time. I'm not bashing them just saying. " Yes. Round 2 just did a new tool for a 4 door 67 Chevy Impala, from the Supernatural TV show. They must have spent good money on that. Yes, Round 2 can do new tooling if they wanted to. Not everyone is into 4 doors. I would venture to say that this would tailor to a very limited market. We'll have to see how well it sells as time goes on. If they can do this Round 2 surely can dig into their vaults and resurrect kits that have never been re-released. IE: 71 Dodge Demon, 68 Dodge Feverbee, Superhemi, etc. -
2020 Kit Development Update from Round 2

Well, if they are doing a blog on youtube here is chance for us to be heard. We all need to get on the blog and request they do a 68 Coronet R/T kit. Maybe they can do a stock version with drag racing parts. Opportunities come and go. This one's coming to us. Being a very requested kit, there is a market for it. Too much of the same subject keeps getting released over and over, with the only thing different is the box art. Let's hope Round 2 listens and proceeds with developement on this. -
From a previous post: "No, they are not. They never were, either. PlastiKote was the go-to primer for over 20 years specifically because it was different from anything else available...not as hot as Duplicolor, but just as good a barrier, and easy-sanding." I've used both products for many years, the statement that one is hotter than the other. Not true. I do agree with you that both are a good barrier and sand easily.

Duplicolor and Plasticote are the same product. Lot of places have dropped the Plasticote line and have Duplicolor. Oreilley's, Advance, Pep Boys, Autozone and Bennett have the Duplicolor line. Duplicolor has a sandable primer and it's very good. A lacquer based primer so you can put any paint on top of it.

Someone paid $600 for a '68 Coronet Yikes!
GMP440 replied to Bills72sj's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's interesting that this thread has been active for a while. Alot of modelers would like to see an all new kit of the 68 Coronet R/T. Let's all make this happen. Contact Moebius, Revell and Round 2 and tell that this is a highly requested kit and it needs to produced. The more requests they get the more the kit manufacturers will listen. -
It will be interesting to see how well the kit sells. Interesting how Round 2 does a completely new tool for something that may or may not sell versus retooling a well requested oldie we haven't seen in years. Never the less, I'll be in for one of the 4 door Impala kits.

That is very true, but that was not the point I was making. -

I would debate statement number 3. In no way I am putting this builder down. There are buyers out there that will buy a built model for big bucks regardless of who built it. For example, a buyer has always wanted a model of his pride and joy and there never has been a kit of that vehicle , but sees someone selling a scratchbuilt one on ebay for $2000 or $3000. That buyer who always wanted it will pay the price for it. If it looks exactly like the vehicle he owned and that's what the person wants, he could care less who built it. He probably would not even know if the builder was well known. -

That's the 3rd sealed MPC 68 Coronet kit in 3 or 4 months that sold for that price and more. Around September, one went for over $1000. It shows that it's a very desirable kit. Round 2, Revell or Moebius really need to make an all new kit of this. -
7 Muscle Cars I Hope Will Be Kitted Soon

I think eventually we will see a 68 Coronet R/T come out by either Revell, Round 2 or even Moebius; despite what the naysayers say. -

Coronet vintage racer

Here is an idea. Maybe do a Paul Goldsmith #99 car. He never raced a 70 Coronet, only the 68 and 69 Coronets. -
Is Ed Sexton still with Revell, or did he go on to another kit manufacturer? Any contact info for him?

It's amazing there are two topics on this message board in reference to the MPC 68 Coronet R/T kit. This definetly shows the huge demand there is for this kit . I too wish there was a way to get the ball rolling in order to get a reissue going. We all need to contact Revell, Round 2 and Moebius and tell them that this subject matter needs to be done. As mentioned in the past, this is a big hole that needs to be filled. I see Moebius as the one that would venture to bring this out like they have been doing with the various Ford trucks that we see released. Right now we are seeing the 68/69 Charger kits constantly reissued and recently the 70 Charger R/T. It's a horse that's beat to death. It's time for the model kit manufactures to move on and get something fresh out for once. Even if it's just a limited run, say 5,000 to 8,000 kits. this number of kits would definetly sell out. Keep contacting the model kit companies. There is always that light at the end of the tunnel where this could very well happen. For all we know, maybe one of the kit manufacturers is already working on developement of this. But, who knows.

I understand your desire to see the MPC 71 Roadrunner Runner kit again. Through the years I would write letters to Round 2 about resurrecting the MPC 68 Dodge Coronet R/T. I stated that this subject could be done in different versions. Stock, Nascar (#99 Paul Goldsmith Car) and a Dick Landy drag version. I've also written to Revell on this same subject. They do a 67' Coronet R/T and not a 68 Coronet R/T. I guess I will never understand why the 67 was chosen over the 68 Coronet. Would love to see the market research on that. I think you are onto something when you stated that they never wanted to redo the 71 Roadrunner because the they wanted to push the 74 over the 71. Think about it; if you were with that company in product developement wouldn't you try to push for some of your favorite subjects to be released. I know I would. But, who knows what the real reason was. Now that we have Moebius and Salvino's; maybe we all can write to them requesting for the 71 Roadrunner or 68 Dodge Coronet R/T kits. This is a perfect time for them because they are consantly developing new kits. Lastly, you mentioned about contacting Round 2 to do a release. Find out what it would cost for them to do a limited run, say 5000 kits of the 71 Roadrunner. Then try to raise money for the venture. Maybe even get a bank loan. They won't pay attention until there is money on the table. Someone at Round 2 will pay attention.

I should have clarified. I never saw a photo of the tooling. The photo I saw was a room full of kits. You could see each and every subject in the archives. As far as tooling; yes, tooling was probably modified from year to year. The archived kids could be a starting point for Round 2 if they ever decide to retool the 68 Coronet R/T.
