  1. excellent building on that link. sorry about your friend.
  2. i was tempted to start a new thread, or add to the one with "should we have a LIKE button" in the heading, but apparently did neither. yet, my suggestion remains. with the plethora of information available through the internet, any time a member asks a fairly innocent question, almost invariably some wise-acre comes up with "google is your fiend (sic)" or some-such variation including that cute little animation 'let me google that for you'. so maybe there should be a section whereas, under house rules and warning points count double, folks could ask a legitimate question and be assured the aforementioned responses would not be viable solutions. i am in the midst of building the Tamiya Morris Mini-Cooper (project #748 - building out of sequence). i simply wanted my suspicion of battery location confirmed, so i did the dreaded google search. this was at 6:18 AM, today. by 7:25 AM, i had added over a dozen bookmarks to my models file, joined 2 more model car forums, a Morris Minor forum, and am awaiting approval of another forum just to view some pictures a member of Britmodeler referred. and i still don't know if that little square thing molded into the trunk floorpan is supposed to be the battery. why can't i get anything done? too many peripherals!!!
  3. you've got the start of a great 5-window cab - just sayin'. . .
  4. with the paid-for, re-released kits, the model companies are giving Junior, and maybe even Grand-Junior, a chance to build kits "just like they were in the olden days." not to be able to do so is a deprivation no budding modeler should have to endure. there's a whole slew of released past kits (not only cars) i could only ogle on a 50 cent allowance in 1960. now i buy them for 20 bucks and am happy just to glance at the box on the shelf. i think of it as model room decor. if i ever build it, fine. if not, fine, too.
  5. i've seen the Frat-Bro Posi-Traction, but never knew it was a legitimate form of un-stuckery! you've got the thermos, or rather vacuum bottles, for coffee, but have you considered a clipboard & timers? some kit had them mid-'60s, maybe even a resin version around, but it looks like you could do a better job with some styrene & gauge decals.
  6. i'm sure it'll be worth the wait. the website parts look superb. not to make your work list longer, but hopefully put a bug (tee, hee) in someone's ear .... is there an available decal sheet with VW related speed parts manufacturers? stuff like Empi, Okrasa, ad infinitum ..... if someone was handy with this type of thing, i'll bet there's a market. ahem... ps: you do have me down for (3), right?
  7. drinking & smoking = nothing to show except an empty wallet. i wonder is there's a Smokers Forum and they lament the days when cigarettes were 25 cents a pack and a book of matches thrown in?
  8. define "nutty". some folks talk to dogs, others polish door knobs.
  9. i get a chuckle from bicycle riders. (of which i am) they demand the right to operate their vehicle on the Streets. and yet, they'll blow through every stop sign possible and never indicate which way they might be turning. all in an effort to catch the peloton....
  10. since i build at the rate of glacial melting, the kit purchase end of the hobby is only pennies per styrene fun hour. my chief grumble is almost 2$ for a good quality (i.e., Stevens International) sanding stick. and i buy them by the 10-pack.
  11. i think the designer of the rack needs to accept 51% of the blame.
  12. i think 40% is the accepted tipping point for repair or replace (emotional decisions not included).
  13. all that, and no word about Jerry?
  14. i've got one on the 'in-the-works' shelf. share your plans for the hood? lift-off? specialty hinges? following along.
  15. youtube + paul budzik
  16. well ... after yet another sleepless night wondering, not if, but when, my paint stand would choose to separate itself, i am facing the ultimate conundrum: do i wrap the tape in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction? since i live in the northern hemisphere i am leaning towards the former. i had contemplated a drop of Micro Krystal Klear between the spindly parts but thought better since the rpms of the turntable may require retorquing the screw holding the swivel mechanism on the bottom unit. a previous modification was applied as soon as i took the units out of the box. i used super duty double sided 3M mounting tape to adhere a 5/8" galvanized washer to the bottom of each unit. i think the top part of the turntable, especially with a model clamped in, is a top-heavy beast. although i don't make turntables professionally, this unbalance could be a contributing force for its dis-assembly at operating speed.
  17. so let me get this straight: if you say a magic incantation, the parts will stay together? why didn't Tamiya include this in the instructions?
  18. sorry if anyone was expecting an engine wiring extravaganza; i promise to make it up in the long haul....
  19. http://s376.photobucket.com/user/night_owl_garage/media/inline6_zpseddd62b7.png.html?o=5 (not much to do with this thread; just testing the photobucket account) well, it could use wires ...
  20. i'm not convinced paint stands screw up paint jobs
  21. and a woody, too
