  1. 67 Chevelle completed. Well thats it for me and my builds in this topic. Big thanks to Mark aka wgflatliner for starting this community build, it has been fun and has kept me motivated to build subjects that I like very much and enjoy building. Was also great to be amongst other builders who share the passion for Lowriders.
  2. 65 Impala complete.
  3. Really looking foward to watching this build evolve ,cant wait to see all the modifications you make and how you go about doing the paint job.
  4. Thanks Zac. Yeah its built cleanly, but needs a final overall clean to get rid of final assembly crud and marks from handling. Small update on the 67 Chevelle. 80% complete, just need to detail paint and install front and rear bumpers, apply L.C.C decal, make number plates and also give it a good clean.
  5. Thanks Zac. Well got the 65 Impala 97% complete, all thats left to do is apply some Alclad chrome to the air filter, make a number plate, do some touch ups and give it a good clean. Then il shoot some better pics..
  6. Sorry for the delay in replying. Once again thank you for the additional replies and comments. No joke,it does not have a clear coat and it has not been polished. As Steve Z'man said, when know/learn how to apply a solid colour correctly,no clear or polishing is needed. And thanks Z'man for the compliment about my paint skills. Well if you are not concerned with chassis detail/parts or an engine, its fairly easy to slam any kit. Pm me if you have a car/build in mind that you want to slam, and il try help you work out how to lower it.
  7. Nice paint job Phil, the flake will certainly pop in full sunlight. I reckon laying frame looks better.
  8. Thankyou very much for all the replies and comments,as always they are greatly appreciated. Reason I stated it "aint nothing special" is due to it being a curbside (no engine or chassis detail) No clear Brodie. And yes, before the black was applied it had an ultra smooth base (wet sanded the Mr Hobby 1000 primer/surfacer with 2000 up to 8000. As stated above wet sanding the primer is the main factor for getting the TS-14 to go on so smooth. When I start a new build that will be painted black,il try piece together a tutorial showing the process I use when doing black paint jobs.
  9. Thanks Ben.
  10. Well yet another build that aint nothing special. The engine from this Revell kit was used in another build,so it was built as a curbside/slammer (quick fun build) Exterior paint, Tamiya TS-14 black (my favourite) Interior paint, Tamiya TS-49 bright red, over-coated with Alclad klear kote flat Wheels, Pegasus #1274 19' chrome T's.
  11. Today I received in the mail, the July 2012 MCM mag.First one I have ever bought. Main reason I purchased it was for the Revell chopper article. But after seeing the layout and all the other content I will definetly be getting each issue from now on. Certainly seems to be a better mag than the competitions.
  12. My guess,nail art liner brush/pen
  13. Thanks Niko Main reason I do the muscle cars as Lowriders is just to do something different from the regular Impala's. Personally I think any 60's or 70's hard top coupe's make great subjects to be built Lowrider style. I do have quite a few more muscle car Lowriders planned in my head, just need to get the kits. And yeah mate, im always back in black. No worries and thanks Doc. Sure glad you advised me to get an airbrush, as it sure does make painting small/intricate parts alot easier.
  14. Magazine. Have 3 builds in my collection that have been in magazines,it was very rewarding to see them in print.
  15. Continued. Hope that helps Doc and any one else that is interested.
  16. Thanks Doc. With the painted wheels as I mentioned before I use these. Being that they are 2 piece makes them easy to paint the centres. I start by removing the rim from the tyre. Separate the trim ring. I dont have or didnt take any pics, but I strip the chrome of the rim (the part with the spokes). with oven cleaner.Wash and then proceed as follows Using a drill the same size as mounting hole, drill right through the centre from the back. Mount on a bamboo skewer I paint the rims with this brand. I dont use primer just paint over the bare plastic/styrene. And apply it using a Iwata HPCP airbrush . The ratio I mix the paint is 5ml of paint and 3ml of Tamiya X-20A thinner, shot at 20psi, pull back the trigger about 1/4 which allows close up tight spraying and apply 3-4 coats. I usually allow a day or 2 for the paint to dry/cure,then re-assemble the wheels.
  17. Tuff looking beast for sure. Like how you blacked it all out, looks very sinister.
  18. Small update on my builds. Well its only taken 5 months to get some paint on the 65 Impala ,have been waiting for the weather to warm up over here and be a perfect day to apply the paint. Also got the 67 Chevelle painted.
  19. Thats great Junior, well done. And it would have be a nice moment for you to have received comments from 1:1 riders.
  20. Cool vid Doc, Now that you have explained in more detail the design for the paint,im even more looking foward to watch it evolve.
  21. Its real nice to know my build provided some inspiration for your build Doc. I certainly get lots of inspiration and have learnt alot from you. So as you say inspiration is a 2 way street. Cant wait to see some progress pics and im especially looking foward to seeing the paint job
  22. Thanks for the additional comments,as always they are much appreciated. The following parts all had Alclad chrome applied to them. chassis/frame, oil pan, transmission pan, rocker covers, valley cover, inlet manifold, air filter covers, top of radiator and horns.
  23. Nicely done Junior, turned out real good.Hope it does well at the auction. Cool idea for the air cleaner. Your more than welcome for the detail pics mate, glad they helped you out. Extra detail work looks good and right from where im sitting.
  24. Stink eye Looks real good James. For pics,I just use a mini tripod, set the timer and use macro on the camera.
  25. Well I must say ive been slack and not commented or posted in this topic for quite awhile. My apologies. But it is good to see its still an active C.B with some good builds in progress. Ive still have a 65 Impala in progress for this C.B and im hoping to complete it soon. I just started a new Lowrider build and figured id post it up in here. Amt 67 Chevelle. Still in the verly early stages,so far ive set the ride height, removed the A pillar vent windows and started smoothing out the body. Being that I wanted the ride height so low, it had to be built as a curbside. And yes it will be Black
