I would like to get in on this as well. I have a kit that would fit the rules, except it's a curbside and a bit of a glue bomb. Would that be acceptable? If not, I'll look this weekend for another.

Glue Gun Glue Bomb.

All I had was some regular first aid kit Isopropyl, but it did seem to help. Got it apart, thanks to all! -
Glue Gun Glue Bomb.
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a scratch-built Orca and SS Minnow that I started years ago and drag out occasionally. I may have to look into using a glue gun on those. -
I found one in a junk shop that was missing a few pieces and built it up. I ended up gluing the suspension in place because I couldn't get it to stay together. Definitely needs a steady and patient hand. Early Revell kits and Fujimi's Enthusiast kits are both similar in the way that they have so many fiddly bits.

Glue Gun Glue Bomb.
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd already started breaking it apart before I took (blurry) pictures, but there are still some splotches. A new Xacto blade seems to cut through it fairly well. It must have been a low-temp glue, so far I haven't found any warped parts. -
Amt Nissan hardbody

Looking good. Is this a 1/25th kit? -
There isn't a current Toyota or Lexus that looks good enough to build, in my opinion. If they were to do an old FJ40, that I could see buying. Overall I would like to see some SUVs, pickups or older Japanese or European sedans and coupes. Maybe do a Magnus Walker Porsche tie-in, that would be cool!

Now I think this is silly
oldcarfan replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It looks like one of those homebuilt junkyard specials someone would have come up with back in the 50s or 60s. -
Desert Storm era for me. 6 years in the Navy. I did Electronic Warfare.I was on the USS Conyngham when she burned up, then went back for tech schools and on to the USS Roosevelt CVN 71. If I had stayed with Destroyers, I probably would have re-enlisted.

I bought a glue bomb and it surprised me. I was expecting old tube glue or maybe super glue. This one is held together with 1/4" globs of glue gun glue. It doesn't seem to have warped or melted the plastic, but that stuff is tenacious, it doesn't release easily. I'm wondering if it's worth the risk to try heating the glue to loosen it.

Reworking Maisto 1/24 pan head Harley into service car
oldcarfan replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Diecast Corner
Walmart sold them about 10 years ago. They are pretty well detailed. Last year, Hobby Lobby sold a Maisto diecast Ford truck in Harley markings that came with a Harley in the bed. I doubt they still have it in stock though. -
Guys, I've got most of the painting and bodywork done and the engine and chassis mostly worked out and yet I'm stuck in neutral. Can't seem to get it all together and now I found out we're going to be out of town for the next couple of weekends. Yikes! It's like being back in college and realizing that research paper that I've been putting off is due and I haven't gotten started!

Primers that are safe to use indoors?
oldcarfan replied to OldNYJim's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Will your new place be on an upper floor and will it have opening windows? If so you might be able to use dryer ducting and a box to make a temporary spray booth and use regular primer if need be. Over the last few years I've developed sensitivities to most paints and even sanding dust so I try to get all of it out of the house whenever possible. -
What's up with Pegasus?
oldcarfan replied to geetee66's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Both my LHS and HobbyTown have tried to order some of them for me a few times with no luck. I don't know if they were just backordered or what, but we had no luck. -
I've been collecting Porsche 911 kits, mostly the Monogram curbside, but I've also gotten a couple Tamiya GT2 kits, and some Fujimi and Otaki ones as well. I get obsessed on a car and tend to stock up. I plan on them being a long-term project. The one thing I want to do just to be different is to build a couple right hand drive 60s-80s 911s versions, but I haven't come across one yet. Anyone know if the Tamiya curbside 78 turbo is left or right hand drive?

Here's hoping someone either kits this or at least makes a resin conversion kit for the AMT release, I love it! That being said, I hate that he is making the real ones more popular and thus more expensive just when I am getting able to buy one. LOL

Since I started this post I have bought 8 of the 911s, 3 924s and one each of the Ferrari, the Datsun and the Mercedes Benz. I also have a half-built Land Rover and BMW 635 which weren't actually part of the original string of cars. The only ones I've built are the Porsches and the Ferrari. I wonder who ended up with the molds?

Anyone from South Texas? This weekend we are driving down to Corpus Christi from Austin and my wife will be busy at a baby shower and my kids will be at the aquarium. That leave me unsupervised with a little money. I think there are only Hobby Lobby's in CC, but I thought I would ask if anyone knows of any hobby shops there? Nothing listed on the internet, but still hoping!

Grrr... Seriously, Flies?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The paint has hardened enough to assess the damage. After removing the carcasses, I think it will be salvageable one way or another. There are two big places and some areas where the paint is thin from the wings flailing. If nothing else, I'll call it patina! -
Chevy is pretty well covered in plastic kits, but one thing I really want is the '55-'57 GMC pickup. Also definitely the '73-'79 Ford 8' Styleside, a 6' bed and especially a step bed version. With the loss of Modelhaus, I would love to see someone put out the Ford '57-'60 and a '61-'63 stepside.

Anyone want an Indian Jeep?
oldcarfan replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would love to have one. Mahindra has been licensed to build them since 1946 so it is basically a WWII jeep that has had 70 years of updates. It has the utility of a CJ-3 but with a modern diesel and enough electronics that it will start and run every day regardless of the weather. They are being sold as a competitor to all the side by side ATVs rather than new Jeeps. They aren't street legal, but in some states it is likely you could license one if you wanted to. My in-laws have been looking at RZR and Polaris ATVs for their farm and I'm trying to talk them into a Mahindra instead because it is a lot better for what they need. Jalopnik has done a few articles on them. https://jalopnik.com/heres-how-the-mahindra-roxor-compares-to-a-1948-willys-1826771078 -
Long, ultimately pointless rant warning. It has been raining for weeks now here in Austin, flooding in a lot of it and this week the temperature dropped into the 50s. I have a glue bomb 1960 F100 that I've been restoring for 2 years. I stripped the original brushed on paint and the new paint ran. I stripped it again and painted it. The paint crinkled on the door. Stripped again and I got the first color on then got it masked for the two-tone and that day it started raining and it pretty much hasn't stopped. The truck has been sitting waiting and this afternoon I took a chance and sprayed the second color which went on great. I set it down to dry a little before removing the masking tape. I came back and there were two flies stuck to the paint. I haven't seen a fly in weeks and two just decide to drop by and commit suicide just as I'm spraying.

Re-engineering Monograms Lotus Esprit...new update!
oldcarfan replied to Dann Tier's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You definitely operate with next-level skills! -
I would buy these, but I can see how the market might not support them as full detail kits. Maybe they could be done as a series of simplified Promo style kits? That way they could be sold as kits and also as built up collector's items for those who collect vintage trucks and cars. Something I wonder is why AMT hasn't put out a variation of the 50 Chevy and 55-57 Chevy trucks as GMCs? The bodies are basically the same and it would give them some new kits to release with not too much investment. They already have a license from GMC. At least Moebius is filling the shortage of Ford trucks. I'm eagerly awaiting the '65 stepside and hoping they come out with a 61-63 to knock the eBay prices down on the old AMT ones.
