  1. I prefer the turtle deck, but the pickup bed is a close second!
  2. I bought a couple kits when Hobby Lobby had their sale, the old Dodge 70 Hemi Challenger, the new Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Ram. I made a small amount of progress on my build, mostly just cleaning up the body and such. I also got the Cummins 6BT from Trailer Trash Kustomz, (thanks!). I was leaning towards a redneck rat-mobile, but then I remembered one of my favorite trends from a couple years ago. The Dajiban? Remember those? Japanese racers take old Dodge vans and lower them for road racing. So I've decided to build.... The DajiRam! I plan to go low and 2wd instead of the original idea of lifted and big tired. I was going to do a different chassis, but I am going to try modifying the box chasis first. I lowered the rear and am trying out the 70 Challenger front suspension. Here's a picture of a Dajiban and a pic of the mockup with the engine laid out.
  3. Back when I was a kid in the Jurassic times, every kit producer had custom vans and several have been released lately. One that stands out is the Revell Chevy or GMC van with the custome grille and bumperettes. It was 1/25th scale and came in several variants. The ones I can remember were the Hardy Boys, the Charlie's Angels and the KISS vans. Were there any other versions and is this mold still around? I think I remember an A-Team version too, but not sure. Now another question, is it possible that someone could duplicate the decals for these versions?
  4. The 4 cylinder out of the Chevette might work. They were around the same time period as the Monza.
  5. Usually for me, it's more of a spur of the moment thing, maybe some kit that I had as a kid. I rarely find them in a store so when I do, I get excited. I also tend to shy away from one's where the trim is covered with glue or the chrome is missing unless I have specific plans for it.
  6. Yes, the Duplicolor Hot Rod Primer is nice stuff. It comes in a spray can, so if you airbrush you'll have to decant, but the color is right.
  7. I haven't tried it, but the AMT 67 Mustang chassis looks like it should work pretty nicely. It's definitely a lot more detailed.
  8. I came across this thread while looking for information on the California Roller VW van I just got. I want to build it out of the box but with better wheels from the Beetle. Just for information, the new Harley Quinn reissue of this kit is the same as the Spiderman one as far as options, but with different stickers. .
  9. This is one of my favorite kits, especially this reissue with all the cool parts. I built it at around 10 y.o. when it was molded in orange. I think it was the Orange Crate or something like that. I got it by begging my grandma for money. I built it that summer with probably two tubes of Testor's tube glue. I'm at the age where I get nostalgic, so a couple years ago, I bought two of the Rat Rod reissue and built one as a stock 29 truck and the other as a hot rod.
  10. I really misread the title here. I thought you were talking about somebody cutting parts out of sheet rock. That would be a chore! Last weekend my wife went to Jo-Ann's(?) fabric store and I looked at all the Cricut and other types of cutters. I also found out they take Hobby Lobby coupons so now I wonder if that would apply to one of these?
  11. Looks interesting, I like it!
  12. While visiting San Antonio today, I stopped at the Hobby Town just to kill time while my wife was at a fabric store. They had issue 205 of MCM!
  13. Looking good! I need to get one of these. I built the Miami Vice boat last year.
  14. I've got plenty of American steel wheels because I made a mold of a set, now I need some late model Euro steel wheels and some Japanese ones!
  15. I built one of these a long time ago. I know the 5.0 from AMT's 1995 Ford F150 or Mustang fits in this without a lot of work!
  16. Really good look. I have these models in my build someday pile, but I could never make them look that good.
  17. Anyone know if they plan to do a stepside version of the '69-'70 F-100? I've been thinking of doing one using the AMT '53 bed, but if they are going to release one, I'll wait.
  18. Rubbin' is racin', but not at the speeds they are going now. NASCAR is flailing now, trying different gimmicks to get back their fans. They could lower the speeds by 30 or 40 MPH so drivers could actually race not just travel i a pack and hope for the best, and do away with the cookie cutter body style, institute a 'race what you make' rule, i.e. an actual stock body put on the current chassis. They have to reestablish a connection with their fanbase and reach new fans. How better to do that than to race cars that really look like a Fusion, Camry or even a Camaro or Mustang ?
  19. If you don't mind die-cast, you can find the Jesse James lowrider 57 Chevy 150 2-door wagon on eBat fairly often. The body is pretty stock. It takes a little kit bashing but looks good.
  20. The Revell 66 Chevelle wagon will need a donor kit such as the Revell 66 El Camino for the stock hood and wheels but it makes a nice model. The Pinto wagon and the Pacer wagon are currently in most hobby shops. Hubley made some early 60s Ford wagons and they show up on eBay pretty often. They are pretty much unassembled promos, but they look nice when put together.
  21. Really good looking!
  22. Tamiya Haze Gray looks pretty close as well.
  23. I received my Cummins in the mail yesterday, (Thanks to Trailer Trash Customs) it looks very nice. I may see if I can make a 4BT out it if it won't fit in the engine bay. I also bought a second Dodge Ramcharger from the HL clearance pile. I have to start looking at combinations. Tomorrow I'll be in San Antonio at the model car show and I'll look for any other kits that might work as well. For some reason my phone isn't letting me email pictures to myself, so I don't have anything to show just yet.
  24. The stock version was in Walmart a few years ago wasn't it? I remember buying a couple of them.
