Do You Get Fixated On One Type Of Car?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For what it's worth AMT did a nice 1965 Fairlane as a promo and they show up fairly cheaply on eBay. I would imagone the chassis from the Revell Thunderbolt would probably fit under it if you want detail! -
The kit is at Hobby Lobby and is currently being marked down. The color is pretty close to Sublime Green which is available from Testors at Hobby Lobby. If you want an exact match, an auto paint store can probably mix up some.

Can anyone relate...

I'm with you. My eyes don't focus the way they used to. I still stick with 1/25-1/24 but I build mostly as curbside. -
Rebadging, for many strange reasons

I just read an interview with the American VP for Datsun at the time and he said that he had to insist on them not using the Japanese name Fairlady for the 240Z. He went to the designer and he didn't like it either and they got together and talked Datsun into using the chassis code instead. And that's my trivia contribution for the day! -
Do You Get Fixated On One Type Of Car?

I know it's been said before, but your Cobras are amazing! -
Stopped by last night and got 2 Monogram RX7s for $7.48 and 2 Revell 914s for the same and while I was walking away I noticed they had a couple of the AMT display cases marked down to $3.49!

When I am building on a regular basis, I tend to build one type of vehicle for a while. I built Nascar models for a while, then pickup trucks exclusively for a few months. Currently I am obsessed with Porsche. I have several 911s from Monogram, Tamiya, and Revell in various stages of completion. I recently got a couple more 924s, a 944 and Saturday I got a 928. Is this normal?

Does he prefer that you check to make sure things are in stock or just send him the order? He's got several things I want! -
If I'm buying a vintage kit, I prefer it to be already opened so I can check for missing parts. There used to be some unscrupulous sellers who would advertise sealed in box kits for a premium. It turned out they had shrink wrappers and would fake it. When when you bought it and opened it later it was a box with scrap parts.

Nice job. Where did you get the rooftop cargo, that really sets it off! -

No pictures as they are being shipped but I ordered yet another Monogram Porsche 911 curbside and a Skip's Fiesta VW convertible built-up. Never had the VW before and mostly got it for the Porsche Fuchs wheels it has. There was a break between Sunday School and Big Church so I was surfing the auction site. My wife can't get mad at me because we were at church, right?

It was soooo tempting, LOL, but no, I got the light blue one.

I finished one of my favorite kits from childhood! It's the Monogram 1/24th curbside from the 70s. I've bought several of these on eBay and actually have a couple more on the way. I've also started collecting other 911s as I find good deals. I bought a bunch of the Monogram full detail kits when HL did their clearance on them and I have a few Tamiya versions and one of the Fujimi ones (yikes) waiting in the wings. Anyway this one is built boxstock as a baseline. The color is Krylon Citrus Green which is similar to one of the mid 70s Porsche colors. I have other versions in mind for the future. (Note, I realized that I left the exhaust off and the license plate is crooked. Those will be fixed soon. Right now I'm just happy to finish something.

I bought one at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon. They were out of them in the hobby section but they had the same ones in different colors in the sewing area.

When I was little, drug stores, dime stores and even grocery stores had a decent selection of kits. My grandmother had a small dime store for a while, but all she stocked were Palmer kits. -

Hobby Lobby/ Michaels ?
oldcarfan replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Michael's will match Hobby Lobby coupons but Hobby Lobby won't take Michael's coupons. Really, the only reason to shop at either is for the coupon discount. -
Not designed as a kit car kit, but I have an extra Countach kit that is missing the engine and I have been thinking of building it as a kit car version. Maybe with a NASCAR V-8 or something.
