The future of offroading?
oldcarfan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not bad looking, but a full electric is nothing more than a glorified golf cart. I'm picturing a small accessory trailer with a Home Depot generator on it to power the truck for any kind of extended trip! -
Sometimes I hate Hobby Lobby

Mine never got those, so I hope they will have them soon! -

I don't have a picture, but the recent release of the Pinto Cruising Van includes the old Pro Stock bucket seats.- 45 replies

A Maverick and a Vega would be good as the original kits don't exist anymore except as high-priced eBay fodder. To make the tooling go further, I would want to see a stock version as well as a drag version. Start with the 1970 version and the tool could be updated to make the facelift 1974-up versions later.

Model A p/u
oldcarfan replied to junkyardjeff's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I tried to build this as a kid back when it was orange, then a couple of years ago I bought this release and built it again. I learned the lesson and glued everything closed too. -
My grandma bought a new 1971 after my grandpa died and drove it for several years with no trouble. She then traded it for a new Cordoba and later a Volare. She seemed to have a thing for malaise!

Does the Revell kit come with a LHD dash as well as a RHD?
-
Beautiful! This kit is on my search list, as soon as I get finished with my Monogram, Revell and Fujimi 911s.

That looks great! I have the Maverick version, I wonder if the bumpers from the Comet would be usable on the Maverick?

Well guys, my entry isn't going to be crossing the line on time. I am about to the point of final assembly and am missing a box of parts. Sorry.

I've always thought AMT is missing out a chance by not adding variations on the 55-57 Chevy truck. I wouldn't mind seeing the 58 and on versions. The ones I want is the GMC trucks of the same years. It wouldn't require much in the way of additional tooling and it would give them a whole new line to reissue over the years.

Ed Roth's '56 Ford Pick-up by Revell
oldcarfan replied to Austin T's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I used one of the 80s releases of this kit to build a stock truck. I used the bed from the amt 53 f100 because it is much closer to the real one. Does the ROth version include the stock parts and also does it have the small rear window? If so, I may have to get one. -
Is there a kit of the Ice Charger?

I think I saw a Jada one at Walmart a while back. It was listed as 1/24th, but like most of Jada's stuff it looked oversized. -
Glue Gun Glue Bomb.
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, it's the Monogram Porsche flatnose Cabriolet. I got two of them off a Facebook page. It's turning out to be not as hard to remove the glue since y'all suggested using Iso Alcohol. -
I would like to get in on this as well. I have a kit that would fit the rules, except it's a curbside and a bit of a glue bomb. Would that be acceptable? If not, I'll look this weekend for another.

All I had was some regular first aid kit Isopropyl, but it did seem to help. Got it apart, thanks to all! -
Glue Gun Glue Bomb.

I have a scratch-built Orca and SS Minnow that I started years ago and drag out occasionally. I may have to look into using a glue gun on those. -
I found one in a junk shop that was missing a few pieces and built it up. I ended up gluing the suspension in place because I couldn't get it to stay together. Definitely needs a steady and patient hand. Early Revell kits and Fujimi's Enthusiast kits are both similar in the way that they have so many fiddly bits.

I'd already started breaking it apart before I took (blurry) pictures, but there are still some splotches. A new Xacto blade seems to cut through it fairly well. It must have been a low-temp glue, so far I haven't found any warped parts. -
Amt Nissan hardbody
oldcarfan replied to BallisticMsl's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looking good. Is this a 1/25th kit? -
There isn't a current Toyota or Lexus that looks good enough to build, in my opinion. If they were to do an old FJ40, that I could see buying. Overall I would like to see some SUVs, pickups or older Japanese or European sedans and coupes. Maybe do a Magnus Walker Porsche tie-in, that would be cool!

Now I think this is silly
oldcarfan replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It looks like one of those homebuilt junkyard specials someone would have come up with back in the 50s or 60s. -
Desert Storm era for me. 6 years in the Navy. I did Electronic Warfare.I was on the USS Conyngham when she burned up, then went back for tech schools and on to the USS Roosevelt CVN 71. If I had stayed with Destroyers, I probably would have re-enlisted.

I bought a glue bomb and it surprised me. I was expecting old tube glue or maybe super glue. This one is held together with 1/4" globs of glue gun glue. It doesn't seem to have warped or melted the plastic, but that stuff is tenacious, it doesn't release easily. I'm wondering if it's worth the risk to try heating the glue to loosen it.
