1/25 AMT 1970.5 Camaro Z28 - Full Bumper
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The Antique Bronze looks great ! I enjoy his build-review videos ---ball-busting critics be ___________--- for a multitude of reasons . I only wish that he'd have painted the intake manifold aluminium , and the air cleaner base semi-gloss black ; otherwise , another fun build . ( " Before I hose it down with paint , ruining it forever... " , made me laugh aloud ) -
1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. + Outdoor Shots.

I never noticed the pearl finish on the interior until now ! WOW ! I can just hear this thing idling at a traffic light at an interstate acceleration ramp . The light turns green , and the driver gooses the throttle to get-up-to-traffic-speed ; then the second carburetor opens-up , dumping Sunoco 260 into the thirsty cylinders... cruising off into the sunset ; the car's colours matching the night sky . -

1/25 AMT 1970.5 Camaro Z28 - Full Bumper

Thanks for the up-close preview . My copy should be arriving this week (not that I'm in any terrible hurry) . It appears that Round2 cleaned up the headlight bucket region as well --- looks good . Are the parking lamp lenses moulded clear or are they plated ? -
Clean , clean , clean and imaginative craftsmanship and execution ! It appears to me that the quarter panels were modified to a subtle degree ( wheel openings stretched ; panels pulled-outward ) , or is it just the lighting ? Keep on keepin' on !

I'm loving this Maverick ! The conversion work you're performing is fantastic ! M/P is my favourite class --- so many fun possibilities . How much fun is it going to be getting the Maverick's rear seat to fit ?

That M.E.L. ( or is that an F.E. ? ) engine looks great ! I've long loved the Edsel , esp. the last year model ( 1958-1959 , 1960 Fords are some of the most beautiful cars around ! ) . I believe that the price-point of the Edsel line is what lead to its demise --- same as with the De Soto line . The recession of 1958 harboured-in a changing market : "I can get a Lincoln for just a little more money !" or "I can get most of these [ desirable ] options for less on a Mercury !" BTW ; is that an MX transmission that Edsel used ? I don't think that Edsel would have used the FX trans.

I Just bought a case
1972coronet replied to Spruslayer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to buy el cheapo primers ( different colours ) to use on parts and pieces which didn't require any putty / heavy sanding . Additionally , I'd use those thin-consistency primers as a final-primer-step , then wet sand with an old toothbrush ( minimising chances of "burn-through" whilst providing a smooth base ) . I'd buy them at work ( Color Place ) for virtually nothing with my employee discount ; I'd also buy cans of engine-colours paints ( with few exceptions , most popular --and a few less-popular-- colours were available off-the-shelf... even Detroit Diesel Alpine Green and Pontiac Engine Metallic Light Blue ) . Best primer I've ever used --and still use-- is Tamiya's primers . That's the last-primer-application after using sandable / filler-primer over body work and-or heavy sanding areas . -
Their M.O. is offload whatever's in inventory . They couldn't be arsed to order or dealer-trade what someone wants ---- not sure if the delayed finalising of the transaction affects their commission (?) . I remember being somewhat stunned when I saw that these trucks came with the dreaded catalytic converter regardless of GVWR / engine , as just one model year prior , 1 tonne pickups with , say , the 454 , were unfettered . The special ordered 1990 Suburban was purchased through a dealership (which I'd eventually be working for some 6 years later ) whose reputation for sell the customer what they want (within reason) dated-back to the late 50's . Matter of fact , they received Z-16 number 20 ; no small feat considering that Cone Chevrolet was the next city over .

I remember seeing the then-new C/K back in summer 1987 . Wide variety of engine-transmission combos , no matter which lot had them . Yes , I recall seeing both the 305 *and* 350 with manual transmissions ---- in good old California ( life-long resident ) . Apparently , the only exceptions were : 6.2 litre Diesel not available in 1500 or 2500 models ; 7.4 litre not available in 1500 models . I even remember a special ordered 1990 Suburban : 350 with 5 speed . Here's the 1988 C/K "New" Brochure : http://oldcarbrochures.org/United States/GM Trucks and Vans/1988-GM-Trucks-and-Vans/1998-Chevrolet-Full-Size-Pickup-Brochure/index.html

Revell 69 Chevelle SS 396 in hugger orange
1972coronet replied to RDean58's topic in WIP: Model Cars
L-89 Chevelle = cool ! -
5-speed , IIRC . The 1988 C/K brochure lists the "creeper" 4-speed as an option as well --- not sure if there was a base model 4-speed ( 4th being direct ) .

I wasn't aware that the '66 Nova kit had been tossed around the product planning gym lockers for that long . Perhaps it was the fanfare from c.1986 surrounding this (then-pending) 100% new kit that made it seem like a new idea ; a recent development .
-
I was 18 when the 1966 L-79 Nova was released ; couldn't wait to get my hands on one ! That foolish and ridiculous moulded-on , two-dimensional interior rear view mirror was a black eye on an otherwise outstanding kit ! ( For those of you among us whom are young and / or weren't into the hobby when that kit was released : the interior rear view mirror was moulded-on to the inside of the windscreen ! Subsequent issues were sans the mirror... thank God ! ) .
-
Yes -- all of the other stock Fleetside pickups (of 1988 - ????) were LWB . That's another kit whose prices have escalated , likely because of all of the changes over the years . I was lucky to score a 1988 annual for a song a few years ago . In an unusual move , those 1988 ( ad seq. ) "new" body style kits were equipped with a manual trans . I believe that the c.1990 454-SS was the only iteration with an auto trans ( 700-R-4 / 4L60 , whatever ) .
-
Me , too ! Missed it on its first outing , and never found it again . They seem to bring Sotheby's Auction prices...
-
Those polls were responsible for the then-new 1966 L-79 Nova from AMT . The kit was delayed for a year ; was supposed to come out in summer 1987 , but ended up coming out by c.spring 1988 . ( many youngsters / neophytes don't realise just how groundbreaking that kit was back then . It's "tame" by today's standards ; but , it was a quantum leap over the prior years' outdated offerings [ ad nauseam re-releases of archaic annuals -- oftentimes , retooled with new , contemporary wheels -- and other long-in-the-tooth kits from the 70's ; Revell's impossible-to-assemble kits from the early 60's - late 70's ; and Monogram's decent Muscle Car series , etc. , which were toy-like , but still built-up nicely ] ) . I can foresee , like I'd mentioned earlier in this thread , many variations built-off of the 1971 BOSS 351 base . I want to build a , say , 1971 convertible 429 CJ , in SS/E(A) livery .

Lots of hacks and half-wits around . especially at the "chain" shops ( we all know which con jobber , commission-based "repair" shops I'm alluding to... ) . Plenty of independent shops that are dirt bag , bottom feeder , grifters as well . Some of my favourite cobb job moves that I've witnessed countless times ( as an auto parts delivery driver ) : - Reusing torque-to-yield head bolts - Reusing nylock [sp] wheel hub retainers (clearly-marqued "SINGLE-USE ONLY") - Dex III / MERC trans fluid in every automatic trans... including newer transmissions ( I'd be remiss if I'd neglected to mention that , "Dexron can be used in place of Type-F [ in 1975 & earlier Ford transmissions ] ." - Cheap-o green coolant in place of HOAT (et al.) coolant - Thicker-viscosity oil in newer engines , especially the VVT and cylinder-cancelling engines - Reusing coolant bypass hoses on rebuilt engines - Improper torqueing of wheel retainers ( e.g. , using an air ratchet to install lug nuts ) Greed and dishonesty abound .

NOT an endorsement --- no affiliation whatsoever with this firm . Here's one firm's interpretation of property laws in Ohio ( cities and / or counties usually amend these laws ) : http://www.ohiorelaw.com/2017/05/general-unrestricted-access-easement.html

CA and other things I'm clueless about
1972coronet replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mod Podge is another excellent adhesive for clear pieces and 'glass' . Buy the stuff which reads (to paraphrase) "Dries Clear and Glossy" . It is especially great for head lamp lenses , tail lamp lenses , and the such ; wonderful for windscreen and backlight pieces which are separate items ( e.g. , no "runner" connecting them ) . CA glue... my favourite is the el cheapo stuff from the Dollar Store . It's in a red-coloured dispenser with a black lid . -
I'm surprised to see a direct-drive fan on that engine , as I thought that they had a thermal clutch on the 335-Series . My 1970 Ranchero GT with a 2 Bbl Cleveland had a clutch --- maybe because it had factory air conditioning ? That's great that you're putting-forth the effort to help get this kit proper .
-
I hope that , whatever Revell decides to do engines-wise , that : - Option of a C-6 for the 429-powered model - Thermactor Smog Pump is a separate unit ( again , with the 429 --- BOSS 351 was sans that setup ) - Period-correct aftermarket wheels , tyres , and other equipment Lots of possibilities with this pending 1971 Mustang ! Very cool !
-
That kit is little more than some F&F parts added to a kit whose origins date-back to 1983 . The 1971 'Satellite' was retooled and updated to GTX status in 1994 ( Six Barrel induction --with some nice carburetors at last-- plus the GTX interior , emblems , etc. ) , which was quite lovely at that time . If anyone were to release a 100% newly-tooled 1971 GTX ( or Road Runner ) , I'd be on it like flies on stink !
-
There's a decent piece of real estate that's called an Easement . It's there for road improvements , sidewalks , utilities , etc. Apparently , every municipality in every state has something similarly-titled . 18" seems like a small piece to employ .
-
Looking forward to this ! No one's done a proper '71 - '73 Mustang ! The BOSS 351 was Ford's last high-compression engine --- 11:1 was daring for 1971 . Hopefully this'll create offsprings : 1971 convertible with a 429 ; Sportroof 429 ; drag racing versions...
