  1. And the GT / GTA looks like a winner as well . Then there's the Edsel ! Never had that one ... this time I'll get one .
  2. Some nifty stuff there . I'll likely pick up the '62 Catalina and the El Camino ( isn't the '65 slated for reissue as well ? If so , I hope that the companion '65 wagon make another round ) . What engine is supposed to be in the Jeep ? Dauntless V6 ? AMC V8 ?
  3. Thanks for the photos and tips , guys ! Mike : Your '67 SS-396 is one of my favourite builds of yours ; so nice and clean ! Snake : That '71 'Cuda is fantastic ! I love the way you fixed the factory flaw facia-to-fender joint ; excellent tip with the embossing powder ! John Romaine : That blue '37 is splendid ! Nice shade of blue . I also see a rather nice silver '68 Charger in the background with a trick looking exhaust ... Very cool ! The '67 Super Sport example that I have is wrought with swirls and the such ; however , I'm not going to let that interfere with my directive . Plans include a tasteful smattering of period-correct decals ( Likely , the Jenkins Competition decals from the AMT '66 L79 Chevy II , tastefully-placed in appropriate locations ) , chrome-reverse wheels on the rear (from the AMT '62 Catalina) , and lord knows what on the front . Keep those photos and tips coming , guys !
  4. After abandoning the 1976 Dart Sport build ( so close , so ... close ... BUT ! The wheelbase is off side-to-side ! ARRGGG ! ) , I decided to crack-open the Revell 1967 SS-396 Chevelle kit ; the 1990 release which is moulded-in Marina Blue or LeMans Blue (not sure ...) and give it a whirl . To wit : I have seen some truly impressive builds by Mr. Mike , Snake , and other forum members , wherein the bare plastic was polished instead of being painted . Mr. Mike's gorgeous build of the same kit that I'm working on was / is the inspiration for my trying the polished plastic technique ... ... so far , a liberal application of Meguire's #7 and some (arthritis-attack) elbow grease hath yielded a remarkable shine ! More work to be done . In the meantime , I am hoping that the aforementioned members -- and anyone else for this matter -- would like to contribute images of their completed polished plastic kits ; and , perhaps share some advice and techniques in-so-far-as additional waxing / polishing to maintain the plastic's polished shine . Thank you .
  5. I *believe* that the Baldwin-Motion Phase III 1970 Chevelle (Revell , et al.) has the single-four intake ; not sure about that crossram intake (use the intake from the Revell 1969 Z-28 as a base for modifying ?) . The Edelbrock Tarantula was a common intake . though I'm not sure if it was around in c.1972 ...
  6. Edelbrock TM2R Edelbrock X-??
  7. I bought a few copies of the Pushin' Pickup when these C-20's were still available ; unfortunately , none of them survived the ravages of time ( and countless repaints ! ) . They were remarkably detailed for what their intended purpose was ; engraving was quite nice ( including the "Custom Deluxe" emblems on the fenders ; a detailled dash / instruments ; engraved door panels ; and so forth ) . If one can get past the blob small block engine ( replace it with a resin or glue SBC or BBC ) , it's a nice kit .
  8. I also seem to recall that the BRAT was issued only once as well ... 1979 ? 1980 ? I built one when they were new ; it was a Friday night , and we just got home from WoolCo . I remember watching The Carol Burnette Show with my parents while I built the kit . A re-release is overdue ... sans those garbage tyres , of course .
  9. Gorgeous engine ! That's the first time I've ever seen one of those monsters outside of its vehicle . Is it just me , or is there a 1977 part number on that Thermactor hose ( D7ZZ ) ?
  10. ... and , took for-ev-er to dry ! Those *enamel* versions were horrible --- you could lay coats down in the typical fashion , hop a plane for Tokyo , visit the Haunted Forest , stay for a year , come back home , and that enamel paint would still be tacky !
  11. I like the vintage-1970 California licence plates ( the blue / gold plates ) . Why 1970 ? The "A" translates to 1970-issue .
  12. "Just by chance , you crossed a diamond with a pearl ..." That is such an incredible transformation ! I'll save any trite accolades ; suffice it to say that that is one impressive SSP Crown Vic ! You feline companion looks like a beauty queen ! There's just something about those Calico and Tortie cats (see attached photos of my 16 year old Calico. First image is of Tama [R.I.P.] , the Super Stationmaster in Japan ) . What's you companion's name ?
  13. Nice SSP Mustang ! The more I see the completed version(s) of this kit , the more I'm reconsidering my purchasing of one . At the risk of hijacking your thread ; here's some pics (see attachments) of the super rare hatchback 1982 SSP Mustang in CHP livery . I saw one of these in my hometown and thought it unusual at the time . It was a retired unit ; this was in the mid-1980's .
  14. There are quite a few more other incorrect items with that 50 year old tooling : - 1966 & earlier brake master cylinder - Incorrect engine / transmission / differential combo - 14" 'Road Wheels' Corrections : - Separate brake master cylinder ( optional vacuum booster ) - Either a Torqueflite transmission and / or Dana 60 differential - 15" steel wheels , 15" 'recall' wheels , or 15" deluxe wheel covers
  15. In my experiences , the underside of those E-Series vans' floors were a semi-gloss grey ( Testors' Gull Grey is quite close in shade and finish ** ) . ** = Remembering Tim Boyd's review / build of the then-new Monogram 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe wherein he recommends that particular paint for the underside of the car .
  16. Testors' EK2 Go Mango (Dodge) Vitamin C (Plymouth) is slightly-metallic just like the original colour ---- it's 100% correct for a 1969-1970 Dodge or Plymouth ( the "E" portion of the paint code = "1969" . In ad seq. fashion , 1970 = "F" , 1971 = "G" , and so forth . Unless a colour was reformulated , the first letter remains unchanged . Let's take "B5" and "B7" blues for an instance ; "EB5" became "GB5" for 1971 ; and "EB7" became "GB7" for 1971 . That blue was again reformulated for 1974 , becoming "KB5" . )
  17. Now we're talking Julian Calendar ! One hundred forty-third day !
  18. Do they also recognise the 5th of October ?
  19. I thought that you were referring to this kind of BBC .
  20. I zoomed right in on that bad boy , too ! That's an awful lot of eye candy there ---- I want the 1974-1976 Camaro to see that light-of-day again !
  21. I wasn't aware of Humbrol until late 1984 , and even then only because of the Monogram tie-in . Heck , I didn't know about Bare Metal Foil until 1985 ! I was driven crazy by the box art builds whose chrome trim actually looked like plated parts !
  22. Humbrol paints had their "run" here in the States back in the 80's ( c.1984-c.1988 ) via support from Monogram (whose kit's instructions included Humbrol names and numbers) . I remember liking Humbrol at that time ; however , their price-point was off markedly , especially their "mini" aerosol paints (which yielded great results but were expensive for their diminutive size --- again , price-point) . This news definitely stinks for our fellow plastic fanatics in Europe , etc.
  23. Freudian slip on my part ; the 'Del Rae' is a restaurant / nightclub in my hometown !
  24. Nice to see the 80's Pro Stock (and even Pro Street livery in some instances) kits coming back . The 1994 Impala ... I'll have to get one to bash with the 1991 9C1 so that I can get the more-desirable round rear wheel well arches . I hope that the '69 Boss is satisfactory .
  25. I , too , love the '56 : the cleanliness of the '55 , with hints of the pending , ostentatious '57 . The Revell kit is a Del Rae pillar coupe , if I remember correctly ... Nice work on that '55 , Steve !
