  1. I enter contests with almost no ambitions of winning. I do it as a show of support for the host club so that they will continue to bring people together annually for a fun day of socializing, learning, buying/selling and bragging. If I win something, so be it. Judging is all just opinion and if the turn out and competition is strong, every judge (and contestant) will bring different values to their decisions. To have an enjoyable experience you have to recognize and accept that.
  2. First of all, thanks for posting that link. I'd never heard of Horace Silver and I jocked at a jazz station for three years, but that's on me. That's a really cool song! It needs to be in my mix list. However I don't think playing two repeating notes, especially if they're not the same notes, at the front of a song is copping a riff, like Horace did it so he owns it and no one can do that now. Sure sounds like Horace certainly inspired the riff though.
  3. Heck yeah. My best friend had one when we were kids. You could steer it around by pressing on the top side of the cab to turn the wheels. My memory is that the wheels looked really good. You had to be pretty small to ride it though.
  4. Thanks for all the kudos guys. She's grown to understand modeling and especially had an awakening when she accompanied me to GSL in April. She'll never have the patience to build herself, but it's enough for me that she gets what modeling (and car shows) is all about. Now, about the motorcycle...
  5. Got a "Yes" and a fiancee when I proposed to my GF under the total solar eclipse on Monday. My first engagement you understand. We were steadies in college, went our separate ways for about 22 years, then a few years ago became reacquainted through a mutual friend. Older, wiser, more patient, more mature, etc. The rest is history.
  6. Me too Wayne. Looks pretty authentic. A great start.
  7. I have no problem with "pretty." Looks pretty decent gloss. Needs an accent color though. Maybe that could be matte?
  8. You can take the models away from the modeler but you can't take the modeler away from the models. Take the break and get centered. Maybe thin the stash a little. Then when it's time to return you'll feel better and love it anew.
  9. This clears up a lot for me. I knew there had to be something more sensible than just insane gouging at play, since you see it so often. Thanks for spelling it out.
  10. You can keep your sprawling car mag cover models. That pic right there is a heart breaker (at least to anyone who isn't you).
  11. I like this. A pretty tough lookin' 40.
  12. Though I haven't completed one, I keep coming back to the Revell 53-54 Chevies. Started a couple and have added junkers along the way.
  13. I only caught the last 10-minutes of the Monogram film and had to leave before the next one started. Looked like a fun lineup of hot rod movies though. I give TCM creds for thinking outside the box a little bit.
  14. You made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. That interior is savvy and fits the car real well.
  15. I renewed for two years with Gregg face to face at GSL. There's a saying that says, "never wager more than you're willing to lose." I'm wagering that this measure of goodwill will help get Gregg to where he and all the rest of us want to be with the magazine, the forum, the galleries, etc. If, God forbid, that's just not enough, I'm fine knowing I helped give the man a chance, considering how I've already benefitted from his efforts.
  16. This is mostly correct. My GF raises retrievers and takes very nice puppy photos. She used a photo hosting site for her forums. Then one of her photos started showing up as a stock photo on retail merchandising. She asked the site to cease and desist. They all but told here to take a hike. You retain the rights to your photos, but using their site permits them to use your photos any way they want.
  17. These conversations seem to fall into two categories... 1) The shame of losing our loyal, independently owned, customer oriented hobby shops. 2) Big sale at Ollies and 40% off coupons at the big box.
  18. Wankalated. Very clever. Your parts "box" must be a loo-loo these days.
  19. You're a brave man Wayne. My head hurts wrapping my brain around how to manage those delicate shapes and the patience it must take. Bravo.
  20. Wow! Exceptional.
  21. A fine job. I like the personal touches you added.
  22. And as an outsider looking into other people's albums, I've always enjoyed Fotki's scrolling function so much better than anyone else's.
  23. Can the embedded pictures be strategically placed within paragraphs or will they just show up grouped together at the bottom of the posts?
  24. Would the chassis of the AMT 58 Edsel Pacer be appropriate? Both the 57 Ford and 58 Edsel have 118" wheelbase.
