1970 Ford Galaxie 500 reissue : I added Factory Reference Material
Rodent replied to migace's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Actually, the grille is the same size. That misshapen "grille thing" that comes with the AMT Galaxie includes the front fender and hood moldings as part of the grille. No biggie I guess if you glue the hood shut, but it is completely wrong if you want an opening hood. -

Need airbrush advice . Please
Rodent replied to Ctmodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah. My first, last, and only airbrush. I really don't see the need for a dual action airbrush unless you are doing custom vans or camouflage. Regular car paint jobs are easier with a single action IMHO. I have owned it for almost 40 years now. -
I like Corian so much, I have n@ked time around it every day for over 13 years! I love the huge beautiful tile shower in the guest bathroom, but the Corian in the master is much easier to clean.

IF this was to be kitted, it would be more likely to be an Opel Insignia. I don't think that is likely either since PSA is very eager to flush everything they got from GM. I was really excited to get these in the US as well as the Regal and GS hatchback. Then I saw them in the flesh at the auto show and got some seat time. I don't understand GM's fascination with high beltlines and low rooflines. Not interested in driving a giant Camaro station wagon or hatchback, thanks.

Looks nice. I have been wanting to pick one of these up. I have a colleague that daily drives his 1:1.

TV "Star"cars that never were kited
Rodent replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a 1/64 at work that I have had for ages. I think it it a Johnny Lightning. I need to blackwash the grille and put a little blue in the grille ornament. -

It was Saturday actually. I went to the LHS for some paint and I saw two guys under 70 buying model cars! In fact, they were probably around 40, if not a little younger. One guy had the 1/16 Revell VW bus, the other guy had a Dom's Charger and one other 1/24-25 kit that I didn't see what it was. Maybe there is a little hope for the hobby!

Been seeing more guys grabbing 8.8" disc brake rears from mid-90s Explorers. I forget what the exact mods are, but as-built, one axle and tube is longer than the other side. Shorten the longer tube to the length of the shorter one, get another shorter axle shaft, and you have a fairly robust disc brake limited slip axle that is the right width for a 65-66 Mustang or early Falcon. Unless you are running a lot of HP, you aren't going to break an 8.8 in that application, and they are a lot easier to find than a 9".

I have three Hobby Lobbys, about to have a fourth. Haven't seen Tamiya primer at any of them. Spray paint is all locked up anyway. IF you can find someone with a key, they have to take it up front for you and leave it at a register. I will look for the bottled primer. My LHS just moved and I hope they are going to stock up on some stuff now.

Source for 1/25 13 inch rims and tires
Rodent replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My family was friendly with one of the local Ford dealers, and as a "car kid" I loved to go in and visit with him. Him giving me a promo each time I visited was a bonus as well. He gave me the gold Pinto as well as a Cobra promo on one visit. I have no idea what happened to the Pinto. -
