Cool! It lives! I wouldn’t want to invest time doing a modern build from this car since the body is inaccurate anyway. You will be much happier creating your own Ranchero like Ron has described. I know Ron and have seen his build in person. It’s first rate and you have the skills to do this.

The cheap Walmart Color Place flat and gloss blacks work fairly well. I do like the sheen of the flat black. I also use a lot of Testors flat black. I will buy off brand blacks and grays just to see their results. On a chassis or interior you will find multiple tones and finishes of black. So there are times when I will have several flat blacks.. say the Color Place black for a surface with Testors flat black accessories. Different contrasting tones. Also consider adding clears over various blacks to get different tones.. different brands of flat, semi and gloss will give different tones. Here’s the Walmart Color Place flat black

Since I’ve been asked ? I’d pretty much clean it up, polish it and put her on the shelf. It does have character and is the folk art of our youth

About two weeks ago my wife found our local post office locked with note on door that it was closed until further notice. Then we saw in the local news that there was a Coronavirus case. Our mail delivery became erratic, like every other day. This week it was announced the postal worker, a counter clerk, had died. They didn’t give a name but it’s gone through the town and I discovered it was my favorite clerk. Very sad, now this pandemic has a face for me! ?

I pretty much drill and pin everything! This photo is of a kit roll cage I had to cut down and reconfigure to fit in a smaller and lower car. I use straight pins for strength, they cut easily with standard wire cutters.

The issues with scratch building
Tom Geiger replied to IbuildScaleModels's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I remember Joe Cavorley saying that anything you wanted to scratch build was nothing more than a series of shapes. Break it down to the basics and start there. One thing that helps me is my “Shape Box”. It’s just a big box full of odd junk. Broken kit parts, half a VW fender, angles or curves whittled off bodies I was modifying, small piece of plastic with an interesting pattern engraved in it, big old staple removed from opening a box.. just toss it all in this bin! I'm amazed at the stuff I turn into something else when I need to make something! Being a modeler is never throwing away an old pen without saving the spring... and examining the rest of the parts! -

Depends on the state! My friend in New Jersey brought a brand new Toyota pickup home and that very evening it was crushed in his driveway when his neighbor’s tree came down in a storm. The neighbor’s insurance paid.

Pyro has been misunderstood in history. Bill Lester was one of the pioneers of injection molding. His main business was the development and manufacture of equipment. Pyro was just a side business and is better known for their toys than model car kits. The multi piece bodies were because of the limitations of the craft in those days. The tooling has to be shallow before things like ejectors and slides were developed and refined. The Pyro facility was in Union, New Jersey. There is a Home Depot on the site today.

Here’s what the Buick looks like assembled. I once bought a tray full of 1/32 built ups at a show for $20. I didn’t even realize the Buick was scarce until later.

So sorry to hear Rob! They are little family members and we surely miss them when they are gone

Thanks Doug for seeing my concern for both safety and good relations with the new neighbors. We’ve had limited interaction so far, especially with the current restrictions. I will speak with them as the opportunity arises.

AMT 1957 Cameo Tips
Tom Geiger replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My issue with this kit is the deficiency in the cab bottom. Once the kit is assembled and you look at bottom of cab, there are open gaps at rear and sides. You can see up into the body. The real truck has a step down from cab floor to bottom of door that I’ve always added to mine. Second issue is shape of side window at the vent. It slopes upward where is should be flatterer. This was later corrected so see which version you have.
