  1. I love this kit. It goes together well and people have been doing some interesting things with it! So show us what you've done! This truck sits near my house. I decided to pay tribute to it.... Yours??
  2. Back to Fred's original post.... I find that people with hobbies are the most likely to appreciate yours! For instance, my model railroader friend and I will share hobby moments. He shared his glee at acquiring a rare and expensive locomotive and I'll share my moments of minor triumph on my projects. We understand. I once brought one of my weathered trucks to work with me. A co-worker who did water color paintings got very excited about my "multi-media sculpture" as he called it. He called out the different materials, paints, chalks etc that I used and saw the artistic value in my creation. On the other hand I know people who see my models as nothing more than kids puzzles I assemble while drooling! My wife's brother was over for dinner once. He stared into my closet of unbuilt models and asked if we could build one before dinner. I had to open one up and put it along side a built example so he could see the difference. He was surprised. When he saw my finished models in my case, he thought they came already painted and weathered, and all I did was screw a few parts together. My wife's friend takes the cake. She is a neurotic woman obsessed with cleaning every inch of her house. I can assure you that she probably doesn't even have a store receipt over a week old! She questioned me about why I had all this clutter. She further went on to say these were possessions that weren't necessary and she wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I'm glad I'm not married to her!
  3. The mention of the BRE scheme reminded me... Recent Wheeler Dealer episode... they took this sorry old Datsun 510 with a rattle can BRE paint scheme and did a rather nice job restoring it!
  4. Nice take on the Foose Truck! I'm really enjoying seeing what everyone is doing with these.
  5. Just hit 40,000 this week. That's 13,000 miles since January, so I should do about 31,000 a year on this puppy. The perfect appliance!
  6. The way it should work... (from foggy old memory) in a refinery, there is a refractionary tower with trays that catch the different products as they rise in the tower after being exposed to heat and catalyst. That gives us the "heavy ends" and "light ends" of oil products. At the bottom is asphalt and other solid muck, followed by diesel fuel and home heating oil. Up the column are lighter products like gasoline and near the top is aviation fuel. A barrel of oil will give the same mix of products. So in the winter, the demand is for heavy ends like home heating oil. So the light ends, gasoline is sold cheaper to get rid of it. In the summer, gasoline is more desirable, so home heating oil is sold at a discount.
  7. I thought I'd post this since we're having fun.... Corvette Summer.... This was built by Bob Schaeffer of New Jersey back around 2004. Thirteen photos if you want more: https://public.fotki.com/modelcitizen/model_cars/corvette_summer/
  8. I'm about to send in for Historic tags for the Tracker. Scary that a car I bought new is now 27 years old.
  9. Love the trailer hitch... picture this one with a large trailer full of lawn mowing equipment behind it
  10. Here in Pennsylvania regular was $309.9 yesterday. Funny thing is that the news was reporting that gas prices were up so Memorial Day Weekend could be a disaster for shore businesses! Imagine that, people who would give up a weekend at the beach because gas jumped ten cents a gallon! I think not.
  11. and watch the height of your distributor. As bullet proof as slant six engines were, the distributor was low on the passenger side, very prone to getting wet!
  12. Ghostbusters... father and daughter build eons ago. She's now in her 30s, I still have the model in my show case The Surfite from the movie "Beach Blanket Bingo"
  13. And forget about it if you need to replace that windshield! I can only imagine the cost. I've replaced a couple of windshields in my life due to rocks thrown up by trucks.
  14. Back around 1990 when I had recently gotten back to the hobby, Hobby Masters in Red Bank, NJ had a one day sale.. 20% off all kits. I had admired all the Johan Oldies Series on the shelf there so I went in and liberated all the ones I wanted. I remember that I spent something like $100, back when kits were maybe $12, so this was quite a purchase! That was the base of my Johan collection. I've added a lot over time, through swap meets, purchase from friends and eBay.
  15. Yup, nothing like someone posting an album from a model show and ALL the photos are roof shots! Another peeve... get the entire car in the photo! I hate those shots where they cut off a portion of the vehicle. It's like they aimed the camera and missed!
  16. I'd love to get this one finished. It's so close to done! And I started messing with this old junker. Original issue Monogram Model A coupe with the two side mounts! Three day weekend... supposed to rain, we will see!
  17. What? You guys thought Hollywood ever had an original idea? Circa 1955 I have the VHS somewhere.
  18. Knock on wood! Fotki had its own issues not too long ago, but seems to have worked it out. Never know what the future will bring. I have been a paid account holder at Fotki as long as I can remember. Happy with the service, ease of use and value received
  19. Great paint, love the color!
  20. I was at Hobby Lobby today... shelves full of RM kits like nothing ever happened. Before NNL East there were rumors that there would be a big run on their kits at the show. One dealer even wanted an extra table to sell them. No gold rush.
  21. Oops, wrong Tim... at least I knew it was Tim.
  22. Yup, kinda like taking the same poll at a retirement home! I tried a club for stamp collectors. I soon realized I was not only the youngest person in the room, but the only one who was still working! Soon enough it was revealed that the club was founded by putting up flyers in retirement communities! At one meeting they took up a vote to move the 7pm Tuesday meeting to daytime so they wouldn't have to drive in the dark. That guaranteed the club would never attract younger blood! And out the door I went!
  23. ' Here's one I'm playing with right now. Original issue, check out the tire wells on the front fenders... some kid chopped it and otherwise made a mess. Time to clean it up!
  24. The MPC kits of that era are surprisingly nice to build. They have good detail and go together rather well.
