  1. I just went to Hobby Depot yesterday for a can of Tamiya clear spray. The owner, Dick, is a nice guy. He has the biggest selection of all hobby paints I've ever seen, we talked and he told me that he orders on average $1,000 in paint per week. I walked out with four cans of Tamiya, and he ordered the Model Car Garage '57 Ford photoetch set for me. The store is primarily models, slot cars, and model railroad. No R/C. My kind of shop.
  2. One of the best builds yet. I love how successful this kit has been for Revell.
  3. This one was built by Harold Oswald, of the Moonlight Modelers.
  4. Amazing. I think she needs to build a few more!
  5. It looks real! I like the rust stains running down the white paint - very nice touch.
  6. I like how that has the Arizona 73 plates on it, because those things used to be all over the place here.
  7. Looks pretty good, except there's no Speed Groovesâ„¢ in the doors.
  8. Incredible, the proportions are no-excuses perfect, just couldn't be any better. Oh, to have that in 1:25...
  9. I think it would look great as a '79 Pace Car. It's already most of the way there.
  10. I got the Mustang. Nice, but I was disappointed in the lack of a decal sheet for the under hood details.
  11. I went there today for a can of Tamiya paint, closed and lights off. The door had a notice that the owner had defaulted on the lease dated 7/2010, so the landlord lawfully took the property back - and a peek through the window frosting sheets reveals that he took it back with most of the stock still on the shelves. Other signs on the storefront said that the property was available. Phooey. -MJS
  12. I saw an article a few months ago about Millennials - born between the early 80s and the early 2000s - and hobbies/crafts/skills. It seems that many of them are in a state of electronic overload, because social media, smart phone apps, and being constantly connected to one network or another is tiring and ultimately unfulfilling. So a lot of them are seeking creative things to do with their hands and minds, and are taking courses in pottery, metal working, casting, jewelry, restoration of antiques, and all kinds of other specialist trades and skills. They do this as much for careers as for a creative outlet. It's very encouraging. You see it all around you, young people doing neat things with old-school techniques that many feared were going the way of the dinosaurs. The 18 year old kid down the street from me bought a '63 Falcon and has been working tirelessly for the last year restoring it. In pretty much all of the automotive hot rod and restoration reality cable shows, generation Y is doing most of the work on the cars. An interest in building models fits right in.
  13. Go Paul! I hope he makes a million! Or at least a hundred thousand. That Torino was awesome.
  14. Nice! And those '94 17" tri-bars look right at home on an early Fox as a replacement for the metric wheels.
  15. Thanks very much, Gentlemen. Feeling the blues! Lotsa blue on this Ferd, but it'll be broken up with lots of chrome. Chrome makes everything better! -MJS
  16. While not sedans, '67 Galaxie XL promos can be had pretty reasonably, the hoods are molded separately, and the chassis from '65 or '66 kits are correct for them - so they are a good basis for a model style build.
  17. Interior came together pretty well. I like how the center A/C vents on this dash are pointed at the driver and passenger. Admittedly, I've been laying low on this project because I'm not crazy about masking for two tone paint jobs. Or really paint jobs in particular. The spoon test looked promising: So the silver was applied first. Next: Blue.
  18. A builder on another forum got a pretty good start on a 1:25 Gigahorse, I stumbled upon it a few weeks back, but I can't find it now. An impressive 1:10 scale R/C build was spotted on Pinterest, however.
  19. The kit firewall is detailed, but it's all 100% bogus "detailing" that doesn't even come close to resembling the real car. The only thing that does look sort of close is the heater blower motor, so I'd cut that off and add it to the resin firewall. With a master cylinder and power booster and the spring tower braces, it will look pretty good when done. -MJS
  20. A factory, mid engine, Boss 429/automatic Mach 1 fastback? I'm intrigued. -MJS
  21. They seem to be about as common as White Castle around these parts.
  22. Wow, Love the unusual details on the '34, like the spotted interior and the yoke-driven alternator. Super creative.
  23. I've got a pile of Car and Driver from the '80s and '90s, I'll probably just dump them into the recycle bin.
