Auto World limited edition
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That is my guess. I would like the truck in fleetside, and have no concern for the Stones decals. -

This is what I was talking about above. Only the variant is exclusive, but the kit as a whole is getting another run. Still a very thin margin tho for 500 kits, unless the goal is the hope that each buyer will throw a few more things in the cart. -

SO this one is more expensive, but closer to what the opened ones sell for. I had this kit, and when I tried to build it as a kid, it was beyond my skill level at that point. I packed it away, and it got lost in a move. I wish I had it again, but cannot justify the cost, even for an open one. https://mail.yahoo.com/d/folders/1/messages/AMduTspmwur1X7tujQSnaK-Bwfc -
Auto World limited edition

True, (I forgot about the "only available at Autoworld" statement) then that would mean the profit for Autoworld would shrink even more. What would they as a retailer make, $10 a kit? But even at that, it could be released separately, and the only thing exclusive to Autoworld would be the Stones decals. Ultimately, my point was that if the 500 is not a typo, it is hard to imagine how they could justify the run. Almost like they found a stack that had been shot, and made a deal to decal/box them, so they did not really have a production run IF the 500 exclusive is accurate. It would be nice if Round2 had someone on these forums that could/would actually answer questions like these. I mean, it has been discussed for YEARS that a production run needs several thousand kits to make it worth the run. -

I agree, or MAYBE they mean that Autoworld is only getting 500 kits.....not a run of 500. -
MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020

Mine arrived last week, and I am extremely pleased. If this quality is maintained, then it should bode well for a successful full return. -

Wow, that is a VERY limited run. Even if the profit was $15 a kit for Round2, that is only $7500. -
Here is a good technical answer, https://www.polymersolutions.com/blog/what-makes-plastic-turn-yellow/ My guess is the kit was exposed to wither high heat, or sun at some point. I have kits that are 60 years old, and not noticeably yellow to my eyes, but others that spent some time in an attic or garage, that are a bit yellow despite being in a box. One other option, exposure to various chemicals, again if in garage for example. I know chrome that is stored too near bleach, like kits being kept in the laundry room, could cause chrome the "vanish" on kits over time.

True, all valid points. I was just thinking if they had the molds and they were not modified, then the outlay should be minimal, and who would think that the Schwinn bikes or some of the other items they have chose lately, like the dog pound show rod would have more appeal that the aforementioned kits. -

Ah, I am jealous of this one for sure. -
Dan, not sure if you are interested or not, but these tires are in the most recent reissue of the MPC Tigershark, and are the closest in kit form I am aware of for the Oakland Roadster show pic above.

It may have some impact, but overall I agree with Bob, not much. The only impact I can see are the reduction in buyers that intend to build them, could ease some of the pricing pressure for the collectors. However, if Collector Carl has been wanted a Sealed "Used Cars" kit from long ago, and part of the prestige for them is in the fact it is sealed original (as the kits above indicate), they will continue to spend, then place it on a shelf and when they pass, their family will sadly sell it for next to nothing at a yard sale, donate for nothing, or heaven forbid, pitch it. -

New display
Modelbuilder Mark replied to randyc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great cabinet. I used to want several nice cases, but as my models decorate no other room in the house, I just have several in the individual cases on a book shelf in my model room, and the others are boxed. I am glad for you that you get to display them in this manner. -

Seems like round2 should be scoping out Ebay a bit more often. -
Issue 207 Is In the House!!!
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Danno, I got mine out of the box last night as well! Extremely pleased please with the layout/color/content etc. Cheers to the new team! David, my local hobby shop Hobby Depot was aware, but that may have to do with how engaged the shop owner is and how aware they are. The last time I was in there, he was so excited that they were coming back, and he had placed a large order for them, so there must be some aware to hobby shop owners/distributors. -

Understood, I was intentionally sharing ones that "sold" per the search filter, to demonstrate that leap in price for what others were willing to pay, vs what the seller was "asking", with the only real difference being the plastic wrap, and the unknown inner contents unless you broke that very expensive wrapper. -

These are the "sold" ones I have found on Ebay. Keep in mind the main selling point of the initial post was that it is sealed. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-MPC-1970-Dodge-Challenger-Model-Parts-Sealed-N-O-S-1-25-Scale-Plum-Crazy/293738031318?hash=item446426a8d6:g:lsMAAOSw2lxfYjue The Mustang has consistently sold for less. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=MPC+1968+MUSTANG+GT+427&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=85140&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_sop=16&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1 -

LOL, Loon, great word. I understand that sentiment Steve, as I myself am very careful with my money. Just to be clear, I do not know much of anything about this kit, nor "collectability" in general, and I would certainly never pay 1K for any kit that I can think of at this stage in my life. (I really want to replace several old models lost in a move, and one is the Ton Daniels Badman, and am reluctant to pay $75 when they come up on Ebay, as I am in no rush, and hope that it gets reissued, some day) Also, I would never personally buy a toy as an "investment". Having said that, I know people that are VERY careful with their money on some things, like never eating out, packing lunch for work, being considered frugal by most accounts, but they have the one hobby or interest they spend a lot on, and that is what they save for. I also know some folks spend money like water pouring through an open hand. I was with a buddy of mine one night who lost $6,000 in the matter of about 2 hours at a casino table game, but that was just over one month's mortgage payment for him. Personally, I just do not have that risk tolerance, but then again, he makes a good deal of money.
