Great looking haul. I don't recall ever seeing this Revell '68 Firebird kit before. Is this something new or an old issue?

Propping open a hood for an Out-of-the-Box build?
espo replied to SDC's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Most Out-of-Box model shows require only parts found in the box, hence the name. Most kits do provide some lumps of plastic that often look very much like a hood hinge. The trick would be to get them to hold the hood open without any other support if you're wanting to show off the engine with the hood attached to the body. Depending on the judge's interpretation of the rules even adding a toothpick or a wire of some sort would technically disqualify a model just like plug wire or added heater hoses or battery cables. -
I'm afraid I would fall asleep in those chairs.

Roadworthy Rescues Wrecker

Great looking paint finishes and all the dented-up trim and lights. I'm also a regular viewer of the program. He may not make them prity, but they do run despite the problems encountered. Some of his terminology for different parts and their function sound a little corny, but he does seem to know what he's doing. Your finish on the bed and boom along with the faded paint job look just as I remembered from that show. -
Great looking color and I like the custom grill. What paint did you use on this? I have always liked the short step side trucks and even came across this same kit looking for something else in the stash a couple of days ago. After seeing this I'm tempted to pull it out and see what i can make of it.

Beautiful color and finish. The interior is a nice matching shade of blue. Like the stance along with the wheel and tire combination.

What did you see on the road today?
espo replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the Spyder trim, which this seems to be, may have included the optional V-8 engine. Most states got the 262 cu in V-8 and California got a 350 cu in with a 2 bbl carb thanks to the Cal Smog requirements. Not usually seen in this good of condition. -

Beautiful looking paint and trim. Your detail painting of the engine and chassis look great. Like the stance along with the wheel and tire combo. -
Beautiful looking Olds. The color is very rich looking and smooth. The interior contrast works well. Like the extra detailing on the engine and interior. The underside is very realistic looking.

Beautiful looking '55. You nailed the look of the one pictured in the magazine. Cleanly detailed body trim and interior.

The finished build looks great. Like the interior detail and the color goes well with the body paint.

Beautiful looking body and paint work. The front-end changes along with the fenders give it a Barris looking type Kustom.

I agree with others on your color choice. The interior color looks great with the body color. Clean body trim.

Better motor for MPC '76 Caprice

Another one to think about would be the Revelle '66 Impala SS kit as well. That one even has the air conditioning system present. -

If you're referring to a big block Chevrolet engine, a couple to consider would be any of the recent Revell kits with a big block Chevelles or Camaros. The AMT '70 Monte Carlo would be a possibility, but AMT has offered a few kits since then that may be a better choice. AMT had several Corvette kits that had nice big block engines as well. -
I have noticed that several other companies advertising on TV that their products to do much the same thing as Lume. I can still afford a daily shower, so I think I'll stay with that myself.

Goodbye Hot Rod Magazine?
espo replied to Rockford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a long time subscriber to many of the Auto Enthusiasts magazines I also have become very disillusioned with the whole quarterly magazine issues for more money than before. As Rockford pointed out the many different tiles started going away, usually just after I had renewed my subscription. This past year I decided to not renew my Motor Trend subscription that I have had for more than 50 years since their main story line has been EV's and very little else. I'll keep Hot Rod for now, but they are on thin ice with me anyway. As for Car & Driver as well as Road & Track, their changing formats and coverage of mostly cars costing more than my home, 401k, and life insurance combined. I no longer find them relative to anyone in my station in life. I used to subscribe to Ol' Skool and they went BK right after I renewed my subscription as well. You might think that I'm the kiss of death to monthly publications, but I think it has mare to do with the organizations that are running these magazines. I'm still holding out with Hemmings as long as they keep sending me their Muscal Car and Collector Car publications. Their writers seem to present a far more compressive article about each car they present. -
Still a great looking build when you do a paint job like this and a clean looking interior as well.
