Sorry to hear of the loss of your RX7, but it can be fun to build a model of a car you have owned and enjoyed.

What did you see on the road today?
espo replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife had never been, and I was showing her the Olympic Peninsula area when we were on vacation. I had a customer who had just been there and was telling me about the Gardens, so we took the ferry from Port Angeles to Vancouver for thew day. We were both struck by how clean everything was compared to the US. Pulling into the Port on the ferry and seeing the Government buildings and the seating on the walls around the port was like stepping into another world. -
I like the stance.

Looking good. The Y Block engine, did you turn the oil pan around to see if it would clear with the sump in the rear ?

Like the paint colors. The ZZ Tops build looks great.

Hi Misha, I just wanted to chime in on your remarks about Vancouver Island. I have had the great fortune to have visited there a few times and your remarks about the clean cars is something I also remember. Besides being one of the most beautiful places to visit and the friendly people in the area, there does seem to be a large number of really nice cars and trucks around. Could be the climate or just people that like older cars. -
Installing clear parts without fogging: How!
espo replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I picked up some of Revell's new Contacta Clear. I have used it to glue in the windows in my last couple of builds and I'm really pleased with the results. -
Did they convert it to 4 wd? I saw a rerun on Roadkill last night where he helped them fab up some roll bars for the General Mayhem Charger.

Like the color and it has a deep look to it.

Gilmore Girls Jeep Wrangler

Beautiful clean looking Wrangler. Enjoyed watching your build. -
Great clean looking build. Would like to have a 1:1 just like this with a turbo added.

Beautiful looking paint work. I also liked all of your previous ideas on the paint treatment. This has that combination of stance, wheels, and clean trim.

Amazing how something as small as a couple of buttons on a seat can enhance the appearance.

I have done a couple of exhaust systems using hollow plastic tubing and a length of brass rod inside to hold the shape when bent. You may still have problems depending on how tight of a turn you want such as making a roll bar setup. A hard 90 degree bend is pretty hard to do with out the plastic starting to crack and even break open on a real tight bend. Gentile bends seem to work just fine, but remember the brass rod can't be removed after bending. I have seen plastic rod that already has a rod inside but I think you would have the same problem depending on how tight of a bend you're trying to make. My suggestion would be to experiment with a solid plastic rod and use some light local heating to make your bends. A jig of you roll bar setup might be a good idea and remember when heating plastic there seems to be a very fine point of getting it hot enough to bend and not so hot that it starts to melt or even catch on fire.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your interest. The colors are similar to a two-tone option on the Chevys but usually the copper color would have been the primary color. I just wanted to see how it would look reversed. The exhaust is how I usually do exhaust tips. I have a mini pipe cutter to cut the lengths of aluminum tubing and I use an old nail to flare the ends. The body trim is really faint on this kit, so the foiling was a bit of a challenge, but it turned out good for the most part.

Like the clean understated look. Great paint finish and clean looking trim.

Hard to believe that your restoration started out as this paint disaster.

I also just looked at your Buick build and being a previous owner of a '86 Mont SS let me say I appreciate your attention on this build as well.
-
I agree with everyone else on the paint job. Despite the issues you mentioned, the paint is really reflective and smooth. The interior looks exactly like the 1:1 and I like your detail touches with the keys. Excellent detailing on the engine and chassis. The Monte Carlo SS in the background looks to be done to the same standard.

"It really could have been..." Mopar C-Body wagon..."surfin' safari", anyone?
espo replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Interesting MoPar background. I like the change to a two-door body style. The soft colors look great on this wagon and the paint finish does as well. Clean chrome trim and the wheels look good here. -
Really clean looking build. You had mentioned the color difference in your build and while it may appear somewhat lighter, I think it better shows the body lines in your build. The hinges on the the hood and the trailer look good and seem to work well.

I always, and I mean always used to put away my lawn equipment with a fuel treatment designed for an engine that will be in storage for anything over 30 days. The biggest reason is that with the reformulation of fuels and the addition of more and more Ethanol products in the fuel we buy. These additives beak down rather quickly in storge and the chemicals start to cause damage and rapid deterioration of all of the fuel systems. The fuel treatments come with a measuring cap and a chart to tell you how much to use. After adding the additive to the fuel system, you should run the engine until you are sure it has made its way into the combustion chamber before shutting off the engine. I never had any fuel related problems after going to this storage step.
