  1. Both excellent looking builds. The Comet especially shows just how nice one of the old kits can look with attention to clean detailing as seen here.
  2. Beautiful looking showroom style build. The paint looks great, and the color looks much as I recall. This was a time when the companies started offering some bright colors on the new cars and this was a popular combination at the time.
  3. Great explanation for adapting the Gasser frame to the Wagon.
  4. Good chassis choice. This is a better detailed chassis than the AMT '69 or "70 kit that this looks like it is based on.
  5. Great looking color combination. You may want to do some test fitting of the hood since you're going with different air cleaners. The reason for their unique shape is for hood clearance as it is a problem in 1:1 and scale.
  6. Great looking body style and yes, the small block looks really small in the 1:1 engine compartment. Remember these cars could take a big block with air conditioning and every other option of the day and you could still change the spark plugs without burning your hands. You did have to be very careful changing the plugs.
  7. Beautiful looking 1:1 Bel Air. Corvette valve covers were pretty normal dress up item back in the day and I think they may still be for anyone running an early small block.
  8. I'll be interested in following this build. I have always liked the Biscyane and Bel Air cars. The above picture looks as if the passenger side fender is higher than the driver's side.
  9. Many years ago, I was in need of a commuter car and didn't really have a lot of money and didn't want a car payment. I went by a used car lot that I knew usually had pretty good cars and was reasonable on pricing. They had a '51 Ford in the "back line" which is where the trade ins that were going to be wholesaled would be. This would not be my first shoe box Ford as I'm more than a little partial to them. The car was about 15 years old at the time and wasn't something he would keep for his lot, so he was glad to get rid of it. Car ran great and didn't overheat going back up the mountain, I was living at about 4000 feet up, and it didn't use any oil. The next day I'm going to work, which was a little higher up. When I turned down a steep road that dropped down to the area where I was working. I got to the bottom of the hill and started to slow down with the brakes. The first pump seemed fine and I'm not the type to just see how fast a car will stop. The second pump is when the hair on the back of my neck started to stand up. The master cylinder had decided to give up the ghost and the pedal went to the floor. I'm about twenty yards from the bottom of the hill and the Stop sign and the car is picking up speed. I pull the emergency brake and it has very little effect and I'm down shifting in too second. Thankfully no one was coming, and I went through the Stop sign and coasted on into work. I turned off the ignition with the car in gear and a little help from the E brake and got it stopped on the level ground. I have had a few other fun experiences with other cars as well. Glad it all happened while I was young and never fully know just what kind of danger I was in.
  10. I didn't mean to sound flippant, but "What's your Point" is often a stock response when I'm not sure why I was asked a question. I think that everyone needs something that they enjoy to do that offers some sort of mental stimulation. I have been a life long gear head and cars have always been my favorite subject. At this point in life I can't afford to do the things I would like with a car or truck, but I can do it in 1/25th scale for a fraction of the price.
  11. Another thought on a color blocker. This is something I have not done myself, but I have seen a few well-respected builders here suggest using a metallic silver as a blocker as well. You might want to experiment with any of the kits spruce you may have since it would be the same as the body and that way if it doesn't work, you're not striping the body of paint again.
  12. Your point? I don't play Golf so here I am.
  13. Thank you for sharing. Always interesting to see what others are building.
  14. I also bought this reissue last week at HL. I just wanted to buy something different and don't recall ever seeing this reissued. I have sat on an original issue from years ago and they were hard to find at that time as I recall. I did build the GT and thought it was a very good kit and assumed this would be much like that one. The only issue I can recall with the GT was the wheel backs wouldn't allow the wheels and tires to fit under the body. This may or may not be the case on this kit now, but it could be easily corrected.
  15. Great looking build and I like the theme. I used to enjoy those early Mad Max movies.

Beautiful looking finishes and the color looks great on this build. I like the Jag rear end.
  17. Great looking paint finish and color. Nice looking interior and the convertible top and the rear window finishes look very realistic.
  18. I like how the great paint job catches the sun in the pictures. You're right about this kit having many different build options and I like the style that you did here.
  19. Beautiful paint finish and I like how the green looks with the silver accents. The wheels look sort of like something from a Farrari.
  20. Colored plastic is always an issue it seems when it comes to painting and especially when you're going to a bright color. I suggest starting with a gray colored primmer until you get the body prep to where you want it. Next try a white primer before your color coats.
  21. That should really standout with some clear. Very nice even looking coverage.
  22. Some colors with a very high metallic content can react much like a candy clear type of paint. Another thought might have to do with the body prep before even priming. Was the body sanded smooth including the door and panel lines? This can also sometimes contribute to something like you're seeing here.
  23. Looks like a great experience especially with your children. I got to do the Petty Experience here at the KCI Raceway several years ago. While if was great fun I think the governors on the engine of the car I drove was a little over active. I think I could have turned a better lap with my own car.
  24. Beautiful looking finishes and the chrome trim is nice and cleanly done. Not a kit often seen and that's too bad since this looks great.
  25. I agree with everyone else on the paint. A couple of pictures in the sun light would be nice. I like the stance with the big rear tires.
