Revell 1957 Ford Custom & Revell 1957 Chevrolet 150 Together
espo replied to RandyB.'s topic in Model Cars
They both look great. You wouldn't think it today, but in 1957 Ford outsold Chevrolet.. -
Great looking ride. On that gold side trim you might try Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf or X-31 Titan Gold which is a little lighter looking than the Gold Leaf. Keep us posted on this.

You might see if your local hobbie shop has the reissue of the WW II Jeep from MPC. I think that it's from Round 2. The tires look very much like the pictures of the four 1:1 tires in your post.

Just thinking, you may be able to build a better convertable by useing the '60 Starliner without the roof.

More 1950's Memories (If you're interested)
espo replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That was great. Loved the music. It was a much simpler time. And yes I can fart dust. -
100 % guess being old has its advantages.

Thanks good doctor. I realy enjoyed the link. A very long time ago when I was in high school, one of my friends had an old 40's Chevrolet truck that he and his father put together. Sorry no pictures. It started out as a 1ton + G.V.W. rated truck with duel rear wheels. When they were finished with it , you could almost touch the rear tires from the drivers seat. The cab was gone and everything from the dash forward was all there. We spent many hours out in the fields behind his house on down to the swamp. Great fun.

Have had some luck with Tamiya candie colors. Dependens on what you're after, O.E.M or like a Drag racer. Model Master has a # 2949 "Clear Transparent Black Window Tint". This works real well if you want an SUV type tinted windows. Just remember to error on the light side on the paint. You can always add another coat, but you can get it to dark very fast. Hope that is of some help.

Great paint job. This should be real nice.

The end is near LOL !

I think the good doctor is write. I heard a rumor that they couldn't grt anyone else to pose for the Mayan calander after 2012. That and their gov. was out of money and wouldn't buy anymore tablets to print them on. Just my theory. -
Mark, Picked it up at my local model shop. They had just got them in. Greg, There doesn't seem to be a washer bag. That would of been an option on this level of car. My other '57 was a Fairlane convertable and had the plastic bag on the drivers inner fender. As I recall it was mainly red with some white trim at the top and FORD all over it.

Hobby shop name stealing?
espo replied to Howard Cohen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sometimes when a business is sold the name is sold with it. This maybe for a short time, say five years. It could be that since the buyers were related it might stay with the old name from then on. -
Just picked up the new '57 Ford last night. It is everything I think we have hoped for and more. The level of tooling is out standing. I realy do not want to "dis" what Revell has given us, but ther is a couple of points that a Showroom Stock builder in perticular will want to research. First off I personaly owned two different '57 Fords when they were just late model cars. One of theme happened to be this very body style and engine and transmission combo, so I feel that I have a better than average knowledge of the subject. To start the colors called for in the instructions are a little misleading on some iteams. On the engine it calls for a gold color for the steel fuel lines, and the oil filter which was a black metal can with the filter inside. The valve covers where black with a Ford stylized decal on them. The air filter was a semi gloss silver. One iteam on the engine that was omitted on the engine block was the "road draft tube" that all engines of the day used. This was on the drivers side of the block in front of the motor mount. It contained a small replacable filter and a tube extending into the air flow under the car. In later years these cars had to be retrofitted for emissions reasons and their prototype might of had this removed. The interior color callouts are somewhat missleading. The base interior of this car usually had the seats and door panels covered in a light gray/silver color, but the kits interior decals look spot on. The dash would be a semi glossy silver/gray. The kits dash also has the correct trim for the radio area. This was a silver plastic material and the area across the dash was painted white. The steering column should be black as well as the steering wheel. The only trim on the wheel at this level for the horn button would be a silver paint. This is not a Fairlane , so think of Ford offering an entry level car. All of this knitpicky stuff out of the way. This is a fantastic kit even if you don't like Fords. I can't say enough good about this kit.

Trailer looks like some of the aluminum trailers I have seen. Maybe a little sign of tire tread marks in the treads, but looks real nice.

IN '64 and '65 I worked for a Water District in the Crestline CA. area. The two work trucks were an F100 unibody 2wd pickup and a F250 4x4 . They were both good trucks, but I remember the unibody had cracks from the front edge of the bed that ran to the cab.

Went to my first model show today
espo replied to slammedi'am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congrats on the well deserved award. I recall when you posted the WIP on this Fairlane. I missed seeing it completed until now. -
Outstanding interior and engine. Look forward to seeing the body completed.
-
I think that AMT or Revell used to make a 1/25th car hauler. It came with two Pontiac Firebirds from around '92 or '93. It was very complete with chains and ramps and stuff.

Nice save on this. I'm not into the rust thing so much, but it did have a very real look of an old retired race car when you got it.

I hate when this happens....
espo replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to have the same problem for many years. Would end up having two or three models going at once and never finish any of them, and then see something else I just had to build and shove the others aside. I now force myself to only do one at a time untill I'm done and ready to clean my desk for the next model. For myself it's the only way I can get anything done at all. -

Army: We want 100,000 more just like it

I love the sound of the drive shaft flopping around under the truck after the last stop. -
Looks great. What's planned for the chassis and interior??

Anybody Else Gone through this?
espo replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thats just wrong !! I hope the courts do more than just let them off. It sounds like they are headed in the wrong direction in life. They need to somehow learn what is and isn't acceptable in this world.
