  1. Rough as that thing is, there's a really cool design there just dying to get redone by somebody with adult skills. I hope your stripper doesn't obliterate too much of the custom bodywork to bring it back.
  2. It was something, alright. I'd been working part time as an apprentice photog for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. They had tickets waiting for me at the gate, though I hadn't expected front row.
  3. Yup. And the insert is Edsel.
  4. Exactly.
  5. Are you wanting the hairspray to hold weathering chalks or pastels down, or are you going for a chipped paint effect, or something else? You might find some model RR and military guys to have better insight on this... https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/anyone-use-the-hairspray-technique.75192/ https://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/69619.aspx
  6. Looks good. I'm need one.
  7. I spoke too soon. One of 'em used two of my takeoff tires that are going on my blue XJ6 for a paint stand. I now have two pretty green tires. After I chewed his ass and moved the tires, he finished his paint job on the pad just in front of the main shop door. So we had pretty stripes and blotches on the concrete, looking like a pack of chimps worked there. Common sense is in appallingly short supply. That's when the shop manager got involved and taught Mr. Paintboy how to run the pressure washer.
  8. Heckdarn...half the real parts I use to build my own cars come out of the trash. Just today I rescued a pair of nice OEM seats out of something fairly new from the scrap dumpster. They're way nicer than the shredded bench seat that's currently in my '89 GMC. Clean 'em, dye 'em, good as new.
  9. Cream at Chastain Park in October of '68. Front row seats.
  10. Don't forget the morons.
  11. Learned to drive in a '63 Olds and a '65 Mustang. Took the test in the Mustang. Learned to drive a stick in a VW bus. Boy, was that a long time ago. Seems like a different planet too.
  12. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I set out to make a credible model of the 1951 GM LeSabre show car. I started with the abysmally awful Premier kit, but it was SO bad, to the point that every single thing would need correction, I decided to shelve the project...intending to carve one out of a solid block some time in the future. A little while ago I found a pretty good 1/24 diecast made by Franklin Mint. It has multiple accuracy issues, but it looks decent and should the desire to do a really good one ever arise again, it's a great jumping-off point.
  13. You can always decant and airbrush 'em...
  14. Cool build. Fascinating period in aviation history. I'll need to build a trolley similar to yours for an upcoming Supermarine S6B scratchbuild.
  15. Nice. Liking those frenched lights and antenna too.
  16. Yup, definite different appearance between chrome and polished aluminum. Thanks for this input. I was wondering about the Alclads now that Testors buffing metalizers are no more.
  17. Pretty cool. I always had a kinda thing for the babe from Metropolis.
  18. Very nice work all the way through.
  19. This one is 1/25. There is a 1/20 kit also.
  20. We need a lot of different skills to be good at life, period.
  21. Here are some ideas:
  22. I'm late to this particular party, but it sure seems like every time I've seen a list anything like that in the past, the chorus starts singing that none of that stuff is "relevant" anymore, it would only appeal to past-it geezers with one foot in the grave, and that trainloads of money should be poured into new tooling for soulless, lookalike or downright ugly late-model shiboxes instead. People would stand in line to get models of this, right?
  23. Definitely. Since 2016, we've only had one other hire who was worth the paper he was printed on. Smart, fast learner, hard worker, stayed for 3 years and moved on and up to a "name" Atlanta rod shop (this shop, where I'm finishing up one long project, primarily does vintage and classic car maintenance and repair...not much fab unless I do it, and I'm not taking on any new work).
