Need ideas - painting 67 Cougar tail lights
Fat Brian replied to bh1701's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First use bare metal foil on the back of the lights if they aren't going on a chrome bumper piece to give them some reflectivity, just stick the sticky side right to the back of the lens and trim around the edge. For the raised strips I would use a ball point silver pen. I use a Pentel metallic gel pen for really fine lines, the ink isn't as runny as chrome pens tend to be. It not completely chrome but shiny enough on such fine lines. I used the pen on the screen on the inboard headlights here. -
Revell: Stranger Things; Billy´s Chevy Camaro

The decals are a bit of a let down. I was hoping for a full set of Z28 decals since they just made new artwork for them for the Revell snap kit a year or two ago. -
How to Smartly Aquire Vintage Kits?
Fat Brian replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm in my 40s so I don't have any nostalgia attachment to older kits, I'm looking towards 3d printing to fill most of the voids in the model car market. -
How to Smartly Aquire Vintage Kits?
Fat Brian replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I periodically search for the things I'm after. I want to actually build it so no need to pay complete collector price for it. I try to find partial kits since I'm probably going to replace the detail bits with more modern stuff. My dad's first car was a 68 LTD and to build it I need parts from the one issue only 68 Galaxie. Over the years I've accumulated enough parts for the build by buying partial kits and a damaged promo, along with a 65 Galaxie that will donte its chassis to the cause. -
2025 Cannonball Run - 50 years since the 1975 run.

The old Revell kit could be brought around but I would like to build more than one kit this year. I love participating in the Cannonball build but I try not to let it eat my whole year of build time. I had also intended this year to be a kit I already had but what's one more on the pile of shame? -

I'm beginning to remember why I didn't even start this last time. This thing is a PIECE! Look at those door gaps, only the best from old Revell. I've decided I'm done polishing feces so this thing is going to get turned into a rusted out shell for a trailer or something. I've made an executive decision and funds have been allocated, a new Hasegawa T1 is on the way. I'll post a new pic when it gets here. -

No problem. Yeah, the engine in the kit isn't great but is definitely a Cannonball style mod. -

If you're talking a out the 4 door Galaxie the kit has a Boss 429 engine in it. While incorrect for a stock version it would be a worthy swap to get the big Ford down the road. The 428 you have would be a potential period mod to an original small block car and keep it in the Ford family. I almost picked this kit for my build, it would make a good Cannonball car. -
GMC has been trying to get the rear steering thing going for a long time. My neighbor has an early 2000s pickup from the last time they tried it.

Got 3D, now what? HELP!
Fat Brian replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It depends on the seller, I've gotten it both ways. -
Oh yeah, I play with a controller so any wheel is probably better. I've even played with a joystick. I mapped the throttle to the main trigger, the brakes to one of the buttons on top of the stick, the in cab look left and right control was the mini joystick on top of the stick, and I steered with the rudder control. It actually wasn't bad once I got used to it.

Here's a pic that shows the difference in the wheelbase. It all seems to be in the front fenders for some reason. The Revell body is also wider at the rocker panels so the frame won't fit in the Johan body at all.

I've run it on 8, 10, and 11.

I had always thought there would be some invisible wall there or something but I had one pop up in a place that was going to detour me way out of the way so I tried to get by and realized you could

I've looked at using the MPC kit to make a fast back out of the Revell kit but it would be a ton of work. The Revell kit is also a bit big, the MPC and Johan are exactly the same size but the Revell kit is a bit bigger somehow.

Yeah, I do my best to find a way to squeeze through them.

So, in the early part of the game you drive in whatever fleet level truck is provided with the load. You can then save up until you can buy your own truck. Then you just pull the trailer that goes with a load. You can also buy your own trailer but it limits the kinds of loads you take to ones compatible with your trailer. The game only comes with modern trucks but classic trucks are available as mods through the steam workshop. The game had a built in mod manager which makes them as painless as possible with a game that updates so often. I typically rock a K100 in game. There are also a few sites that offer mods for sale though I've never gotten one some look quite nice if you want something really unique. Some mod trucks require a pretty beefy computer too, the Mack Superliner comes to mind.

I think I'm going to dust off a previous Cannonball entry. This was my entry in the 2019 Vannonball build but I never really got started on it. This old Revell kit looks like bugger to build with all the opening parts. I'm trying to decide if I want to try to keep all the opening doors or glue them shut to make it an easier build. I'm going to be swapping the engine and transmission to a Porsche unit, I think 75 was the last year of the 2.7 liter engine. There's also a possibility I go mid engine with it but I want to try to keep it air cooled first. -
I rescued this one from the Shelf of Doom to get another build completed this year. I built the chassis when this kit first came back out but it went back in the box before any real bodywork started. It's rare for me to build something straight from the box art but I liked the color combo so much I went with it. The paint is Testors Bug Yellow. I haven't used Testors spray paint in years and it was an eye opening experience how difficult it was to use. The suspension is parts from the MPC Bronco monster truck with wheels and tires from the Lindberg Raminator kit. I borrowed the top end of the engine from the 66 Nova prostreet kit and put them on the block from the Luv kit. It's built in the style of an early 80s monster truck when they were more show trucks than racing vehicles.
