  1. You can use a metal ruler as a straight edge, turn it over or remove the little cork grippy pad so it lays flat on the decal sheet. A French curve will help with curved areas.
  2. The front inner fenders are made on to the body on the Revell kits so you would have to remove them to use the chassis in the Coronet.
  3. Yeah, I don't understand the logic there. It's not like the 429 fit easily and cheaply in the Mustang over the Torino. It seems like selling the Talladega with the 429 would have been an attractive package for the race teams too, getting the new body and engine together.
  4. I had some extra parts laying around and decided to do something Ford didn't. For whatever reason Ford decided to homologate their 1969 NASCAR car and engine separately, with the Boss 429 only available in Mustangs and the Talladega using the 428 CJ. The 429 actually fits pretty good in the Torino, I had to take little out of the rear side on the oil sump bit that was about it to the motor. The biggest modification was to the body, the way the battery tray and washer fluid bottle are molded there wasn't enough room for the fan belt. I under cut the battery and washer bottle and extended to inner fenders more like the actual car would be and everything is happy now. I added the bucket seats and console from the Mustang since the Boss engine has a 4 speed and also the spoiler. The Boss hood scoop doesn't work with the Torino hood so I used the scoop from the 70 Mach 1 kit that was also available on Torinos. This is a great kit but there is one issue I found. When installed the way its molded the center section of the rear axle is upside down once you attach it to the springs. You need to cut the mounting pins off and flip it over then it will be oriented correctly. I built this as a "day 2" car with aftermarket wheels and an open element in cleaner.
  5. The Revell or AMT K100 kits would be another good choice, they wouldn't be brand new by the late 80s but would still be within their expected work life. Same with the International 4300, especially if you swapped the engine for something that lasted a bit longer.
  6. The transformation of the Hasegawa kit into the Revell kit is pretty much done. The bottom half of the engine is installed and about as much of an exhaust system as I can fit. A quick rinse and it will be ready for primer.
  7. Bullnose Fords have to be my favorite. I grew up in an 84, it was the first new vehicle my dad ever bought. Another personal favorite is squarebody Chevys. I've had an 85 GMC pickup and an 88 GMC Suburban over the years.
  8. I got the van up on its wheels, kind of a proof of concept and making sure it wasn't secretly a tripod. Next is to get the bottom part of the Porsche engine installed. The rear chassis mount is on the access door the engine compartment so this one will probably stay curbside but I will add as much detail as I can to the bottom side of the engine.
  9. I did get a new Bronco but modern heavy duty trucks just don't do it for me. Especially in comparison to older stuff.
  10. If it was up to me they would focus on old trucks. The new trucks don't interest me.
  11. The tops are still on the clear tree and could be used as templates for the holes. The hardest part of doing it yourself will be getting the lip in the roof the tops sit on. If I was doing it this way I would cut completely through the roof and add the lip back with styrene strip. The headliner side of the roof still has the bottom of the lips molded in so you can use those as a guide for placement.
  12. It looks like the spoiler piece is just a piece of flat plastic. You could replicate it from a sheet of Evergreen plastic stock, and you will have plenty left over for other things. It won't have the rivet detail but it's better than it being gone. Definitely post in the wanted section for a parachute, it might not be the exact one but they all kind of look the same.
  13. I went and looked at my old kit to see what it looks like. The inside of the roof looks the same as the video shows and the mold lines around the T tops holes are against the headliner side of the roof. So it will depend on if the piece that makes the outside of the top was easier to change out or alter in place. I hope the tops didn't go away just so there's the option.
  14. I have a 65" 4k tv and Playstations 2 through 5, though the 2 does need a new dic drive and I'm not sure how it would to the big tv. I also have a laptop for computer games, nothing fancy and getting close to being replaced.
  15. The 64 1/2 Mustangs are cool but after that? Straight trash.
  16. The video also shows that they did alter the tooling for the roof so the T tops version will probably never come back. I had wondering if it would be possible to keep both versions but evidently not.
  17. I'm looking for decals that say something about fast delivery or 30 minutes guaranteed or similar. The only thing I've found is from the Pacer wagon kit. Bonus points for all white or red, yellow, and black as the vehicle has a German theme.

  21. I watch a lot of car youtube so that gives a lot of inspiration. I also comb through Google images and Pinterest looking for unique vehicles to steal from. Sometimes the kernel of an idea comes from some odd combination of parts I want to use and I work out how they ended up together. Sometimes it's a factory phantom that could have been or should have been, I'm working on a Boss 429 Torino Talladega now.
  22. I agree about the Johan funny car kits. Another issue I've had with mine is the tires are getting weird and will need to be replaced. The kits are good, better than a lot of kits in that era, but will still need a bit of cleanup depending on which issue you get. One thing I like about the Mustang specifically is that it has a Ford engine. The prices on the funny cars is pretty good for a Buy It Now situation, you might find them cheaper but unless you're really wanting to get a deal I would pay those prices and not think twice about it.
  23. Certainly, as long as it's 1975 or older so you have a few options that are out now or have been pretty recently.

  25. I do agree with Mike if it's in your budget. Getting it deep cleaned once may make it easier for you to keep up in the future. If you do want to tackle it on your own there are brushes and scrubbers with handles for reaching. We took and old style rag mop and trimmed the threads down to about a third of their original length to make it a little easier to use. If you have a lot of buildup you can cut it with dish washing liquid like Dawn and then go back with something made to clean tubs.
