  1. Airfix car collecting is one of the hardest fields to be in; finding MIB ‘58 annual kits is a relaxing day in comparison! I have been fortunate enough to find the vast majority of the 1:32 Airfix vehicles, but it has been a challenge. The only one I haven’t bought yet is the Old Bill military transport, but I am bound to find it soon since a newly tooled version has hit the market. I wouldn’t mind an earlier release of the DB5 either, because my latest reissue is pretty rough. I am looking forward to the time where I can build all of them, because these kits were the first ‘collectible’ kits I was able to find and buy back in the early 1980’s. Good luck in finding them, but they do turn up occasionally for reasonable prices.
  2. That's my paint colour choice for when I build my 'Bird! I believe the original 1:1 was a 440 Magnum/auto, but I can decide to change it whenever I actually get around to building it.
  3. I bought one of those Citroen Legere kits from eBay a few years back. Beautiful detail, but the seller forgot to include the simulated tires, so I sold it on to a military modeller. That Mercedes was one of the tougher kits for me to find when I collected the 1:32 Airfix, and I have never seen that Imani kit before. Nice score!
  4. AMT ‘67 Shelby GT350 for the base kit, and check in the Resin section for who makes the body and other parts. I know there are a couple of Eleanor transkits out there, but I don’t know who makes them.
  5. I have a feeling it was a mix, based on where the vehicle was deployed. Some of those paint schemes were probably done by the transport pool with a spray gun, while others would be freehand with a paintbrush or mop. At least they had the freedom to try ideas that worked (imagine LRDG units trying to hide in the desert with the Caunter scheme; some ideas should have stayed as ideas!).
  6. Back when I worked at a dealership, my manager told me about the time that a Cougar arrived on the transporter, but it came with a Thunderbird beak. A Friday car, but they did sell it to someone who wanted something “unique”.
  7. Are you planning to try the teacup test on the engine once it’s built? ?
  8. I remember hearing that some dealers would convert the Superbirds back to RR configuration by removing the wing and nose. I have never heard that the fenders were changed, so if you have a resin or parts box ‘70 grille and bumper, try and make one and see if anyone notices the differences.
  9. I build up my roll cages off the chassis, but I use tacky craft glue to glue the cage to the chassis. When the solvent glues have dried, I soak the roll cage free, finish clean-up, and paint it.
  10. I don’t believe that a new Camaro will be made in styrene, due to the plans to phase out the Gen-6 cars at the end of the 2020 season (now pushed back to the end of the 2021 season, due to covid). I know that resin bodies of the 2018-19 Camaro were made in resin, and were being sold by Mike’s Decals (www.mikesdecals.com). The only possible issue is finding one of the donor Chevy SS kits, because they disappeared from the marketplace very quickly. Hope this helps in your search!
  11. Please Round 2, give us a new ‘71-3 Mustang kit! The MPC kit tooling deserves to be retired and sent to the nearest smelter, and the AMT kit would need too much work to return to stock.
  12. Very nice kit, I have seen them built up in magazines and have been tempted to track one down!
  13. Looks great! I have a Sunny truck kit in my stash to do a similar project to yours (we used to have a 1200 sedan too, except it was red with a black vinyl top).
  14. I have been trying to clean up some of my inventory of started kits. A few days ago, I was searching through some boxes when I came across this old ERTL farm wagon, along with the matching John Deere tractor. The tractor may take some time to complete, but the barge wagon shouldn’t be too difficult to finish quickly. There’s a few of these in my area, so I hope to get some good weathering ideas.
  15. I have tried a few sets of the 19” Pegasus wheels, as well as some of the Japanese rims, and they are too large for the space I have on the car. It could be done, but there would be a lot of cutting and rearranging needed to make them fit. I have considered the mild custom idea, but I would want to take it a bit further with some dechroming and other modifications, and this kit is too clean. If I find a clean builder, I will probably go that route.
  16. That was my plan if I use these wheels. The red and black is just bare plastic, so wanted to see how well the wheels and tires fit the car. Here are some mock-ups based on some of your posts. The wheels used are some Bob Dudek five-slots, Pegasus Lancers, a set of parts box Fujimi five spokes, and Pegasus Chrome reverse wheels.
  17. I’m avoiding the chassis swap for as long as I can, Tom. My build rate is slow as it is, so adding layers of complexity to a project would doom it to the ‘never completed’ pile. I like the wheel and tire idea from the Deora. It’s a bit vintage for what I am considering, but I have thought about using those tire caps to master some new ones. I’m trying for a modified appearance for the Lancer, but those ‘64 Elco caps would be a great upgrade for my Revell ‘62 Valiant. The tires on the Lancer are so small that they can fit a rim from a Tamiya Mini Cooper!
  18. I don’t have a small modern set of five spokes, so here is what it would look like with a set of vintage mags. The second picture shows some of the tires I have here. From left to right, AMT compact tire, Revell wheel and tire, and the Aoshima 17” BBS wheel and tire. 19’s are way too big!
  19. Many of my Hot Wheels met their end with the help of the bench vise. Couldn’t get firecrackers in Canada, but sent a few flying with Estes rocket motors.
  20. I was moving around some boxes today, when I came across this ‘62 Lancer. This kit has been one I have wanted to get on the bench for a while, but I really don’t like the wheels and tires that came in the box. I did have this aftermarket set of rims and tires which fit the fenders, and it looks like it has potential. What do you think?
  21. If it's a kit which is coming from the vault, I wouldn't mind seeing a '62 Special or a '60 Chevy. If Round 2 is modifying tooling, I would be happy with a '66 Nova, '67 Impala, or a B-body Mopar. If they are cutting an all new tool, I want to sign up for a '64 Mercury Comet, just like the one I used to own. Plenty of potential building styles for this one, IMHO!
  22. My recommendation is TS-81 Royal Light Gray. I compared some pieces I had painted in this colour with a bottle of MM Gull Grey, and it looks like a match.
  23. Don’t paint while standing in the rain?. Honestly, I haven’t had any real issue with humidity while painting with Tamiya lacquers. They do dry faster in a less humid environment, but they flow better with some humidity. Some of my best paint jobs came from leaving the parts in the fridge!
  24. I believe the air cleaner you want can be found in the Monogram 1983 Mustang convertible kit. It’s an uncommon kit to find, so someone on the board may have one in their parts bins. You may want to post in the Wanted section.
  25. No apologies necessary. Super Stock is actually a racing classification, so it's not a name which Dodge gave the car. There were full-size Dodge Darts up until '62, so it was possible to have a Super Stock Dodge Dart. I think the model that JoHan was trying to copy was a 440-series hardtop.
