Most beautiful cars of all time
gtx6970 replied to El Roberto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here. And outside of a few one off or prototype cars, there isnt a Corvette made I can get all giggly for. But put something from the mid/late 50s thru about 1970 in front of me,,,, and pretty much ALL of them could be on my wish list. Mainly big cars. ESPECIALLY if the top goes down. 1957 or 58 Bonneville, 1966 GTO , 1967 Gran Prix, 1958 Sunliner, 1959 Desoto Adventurer, 1961 Chrysler 300 . I like Fins and chrome, lots of chrome. -

And that my friend is one of the reasons i like it.. its different. Cars to me from that era just ozze pure pizzaz. Especially the individual coachbuilt cars back then. Dont get me wrong ..im a diehard muscle car guy thru and thru. But if i had an unlimited cash flow....one of these would be near the top of my shopping list. -

For me , it simply doesn't get much better than this. And I'm a diehard Mopar guy. But this one pops my buttons -
Continental Mark II Convertible

Same here. On of the best looking cars from the era hands down Gonna have to keep an eye on this build -
they are. the coating is made to make the bumper appear to fit closer to the body. The coating also wraps around the ends and fit real snug to the body on the sides this is a car I built for a client / friend of mine a few years back. notice it does NOT say AAR on the rear decal. The man has owned it since late 70s early 80s time frame. And yes, its an original Plum Crazy purple AAR , But he decided from the beginning of the resto to build what HE wanted and purists be damned,,,,,And btw,,,, this particular car has a Dana in it. LOL

Urethane bumpers were avail as just front or front and rear together Just as an FYI, these were NOT just unplated / unpainted steel bumpers. There is actually a rubber / urethane coating on the steel base core

Thanks for the pictures.

Very cool . I bought a built up of his Maverick maybe 8- 10 years ago with plans to take apart and redo. I just cant bring myself to pull it apart for such little gain. I mean this thing still had thread for spark plug wires. I'm afraid it will stay exactly as bought till Im gone. I actually bought several built ups off the same seller. and odds are all with stay as purchased

Laugh all you want. But IMO to go thru the trouble to tool up the AAR specific hood, a complete 340 six pack engine and decals. How much would it have possibly cost to make the correct rear axle , I mean really . the 2 Could have just as easily been all put on the same tree MY personal opinion I was actually more disappointed they didn't fix the exaggerated wheel opening flairs . Those you CAN see in anyones case and HAS stopped me from buying several . Ive bought 2 of the stock issues, 1 of the Sox and Martin kit, I have the body painted for one and thats as far as it got. I just MIGHT buy the AAR ,,,but just as easily might not Im just glad I didnt sell off the few original MPC 1970 annuals I have

My alarm clock went off this morning. its such a buzz kill
-
its all good in my eyes. Doubtful I'll build more than 1 ,, If I build a 2nd one it will go to a friend of mine who owns a 1/1 That actually HAS a Dana in it. Plus a 484 CU IN Hemi as well , but thats another story . I guess its more wishful thinking on my part. They go thru the trouble to tool up the AAR specific parts yet leave the Dana just boggles my mind
-
Oldest kit I have completed is my 1958 Bonneville I built this one maybe 3 or 4 years ago Oldest build by me is probably a toss up between my Sox and Martin Roadrunner and this old Monza . I think both were done mid 80s time frame ' ish '
-
Love it. Mine is still in the box
-
Agreed With the cost of kits today. Having to buy another kit , or at the very least maybe go aftermkt for a correct diff ( if its avail ) . makes it tough to swallow. its not like these kits are $5.99 anymore Might be an opportunity for some enterprising aftermkt supplier to cast up a rear axle to fit a multitude of Mopar applications . and sell them in maybe a 5 pack or something along those lines

Well, I'm not 100% sure on the torque boxes. So did some asking ,,,will report back EDIT. turns out the AAR Cuda and Challenger T/A did in fact have the hemi torque boxes . I stand corrected
-
Great start
-
Its very possible an AAR Cuda might , just MIGHT have torque boxes regardless of the ultimate sales destination ,,,but NOT likely. Dana rear axle is definitely not AAR only had 2 choices for rear a 3.55 or 3.91 ratio. Both are the 8-3/4 axle
-
If thats the case. Thats a shame.
-
Yep. Dana rear axle is 440 and Hemi car only.
