Scale I Build

  1. I had no clue as to what color I originally wanted to paint this one since it had been so long since I started it, (2014) but finally decided on Testor's Italian Red. Not too bad. I'll get rid of that finger print! Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  2. The original plan was to paint this Tamiya Metallic green, but something happened on the way to the painting station. I decided to paint it Fathom Green Metallic instead. Here's some pics Thanks for looking! All comments welcomed.
  3. I want to make a model of my son's 1:1 1981 Chevy truck he inherited from my dad. I've got the body itself sorted out, including scratch building the camper shell, but I need to figure out the grille. I did a Google search and found a picture of a model with the correct grille. The grille looks like it is resin. I'm looking for that EXACT grille.
  4. I posted previously about Kodiak Supply decal paper here. It's pretty amazing stuff. I'm a career graphic designer who specializes in motorsports design. Specifically dirt oval. That being said, Kyle Larson is my guy. With this being one of my first cars of making my own decals, I wanted it to be fairly simple so I can working out the kinks of the process. You'll be seeing quite a few more of his more specialized cars. I want to tackle the AXE Peace car next. I'll keep you posted on how the build progresses.
  5. I'm not a model builder. More of a model tinkerer. I'm hoping to improve as I've never actually successfully completed a model. I hope to learn the skills needed to be satisfied enough to actually complete one and mover onto number 2. I'm a Chevy guy by nature and mostly want to find 51 Chevy kits but will be practicing with others as well as trying to build the 69 Nova (I'd actually want to build a 70) . I missed out on the 51 Fleetlines and so will be looking to build those as well as get some resin 51's in other body styles. I'd like to also build a Christine 1958 Plymouth. I've been into model cars before and watch several youtube channels but I just never seem to stick with it enough to improve. I can look over ones I've started in the past and see where I could have done better so I guess that's progress.
  6. First up, started back in 2003 or so, painted in short cuts "Iris," I'm trying out the red window glass from the new release in it. What do you think? Next, remember when this was a new release? Well, that is when I started this one! I lowered the rear suspension by trimming the mounting tabs and then cutting a hole in the floor above the rear axle so the pumpkin could set lower. It is still not as low as the front but it will work for me. Tires are from the new issue 55 Cameo while it's sporting a set of AMT 64 Chevrolet SS hubcaps. It's truly a period piece because I am using the 63 Mercury grill in it as well. Last, but not least, the "retro rod" build. Engine is from the Revell 57 150 kit with the standard shift. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  7. Painted Tamiya pure white and TS-44 Bright blue, this was supposed to be a rebuild of an older one. The older one is still soaking in the paint remover so I decided to start a new one. The engine is from the original issue of the 57 kit while the twin 4-bbl intake and valve covers are from the new tool AMY 57. That's it for now, thanks for looking!
  8. hi everybody here is some in progress pics of my Chevy. it is the latest release of the somewhat new tool bel air from AMT. I am surprised by the level of detail this kit has. It includes spark plug wires and a firing order diagram it also has some bare metal foil and a full sheet of photo etch witch has the aluminum side panel inserts and all of the badges the one thing I don't like isthat it has plastic inserts for the white wall tires
  9. Its finally finished. My kit bashed, garage sale special, franken-chev is now officially under glass!! Thanks to all the help and support I got on this kit! Please excuse the saturated pictures, my phone not the best.
  10. The newbie here... OK typos aside, this thing is for sure... A 1/16 scale kit. This is my WIP 1957 Chevy Nomad garage sale special. It began its life as a incomplete model, but soon became something that I can tick my Chevy and Chrysler friends off. The simple reason on why I put a 1969 General Lee Hemi in it, is because... why not. The Dodge began its life as a complete model, though after some time it got somewhat destroyed. My hopes are to give the 57 "Ch-emi" the look of a rat rod, on top of the look of an old school street rod. Neat things done: Lowered car, put in a Hemi, roll cage, side exhaust, fuel lines, break lines, ignition wires, and cut out firewall. Neat things to be done: Transmission, electrical wires, finish model.
  11. I started on a replica for a customer of his truck, I really wish i had another kit I could back half and do it up
  12. I recently got a few older Revell 57 Chevy Nomad kits and these parts were in with one of the kits. There was also a 59 ElCamino bumper. I think maybe the 3 wheels & tires are from the Elky? They are Firestone Supremes. I have no idea what the rear end or engine/partial frame are from. Thanks for any help.
  13. I know I’ve said this before but this will be one of the last salvage builds I do from decommissioned builds I’ve done. I was just experimenting with stuff and decided to start on this
  14. This is probably the first model I created that I'm happy with the end result. With that said, it's far from perfect. Being that I'm still learning, there's plenty of imperfections like the misaligned front passenger side wheel, sub-par body paint job, and the overzealous amount of glue on the rear tires. There's also plenty of small details that I simply couldn't add in due to my lack of experience (although, I was able to paint all the Chevy logos gold, both on the grille and hubcaps). But I'm mostly happy with how it turned out, it's definitely unique, and I'm a fan of emergency vehicles. The model also came with a stretcher and some other emergency equipment, which I glued to the stretcher and kept separate. This thing is also difficult to handle, as it has many delicate details like the mirrors and siren that will fall off at the slightest touch. Anyway, thanks for looking and tell me what you think. I've got a Honda Odyssey lined up for one of my next builds, so hopefully that van can at least turn out as good as this one. Also, I found this old, crappy photo I got back when the van was still being built. As you can see, I didn't mask the rear floor completely, but I wasn't too worried since you cant see it very well. This vehicle does have a complete engine, but its mostly covered up and there's no hood to remove. Even if you could, the engine is mostly under the engine cover in between the seats.
  15. Greetings from mtr cty,,heres what I would do to a 58 Impala if $$ was no object for the 1:1 car. Its a kit from the 90's,, AMT 3n1 I got at a swap meet,,10$ I think. Modified parts are: Removed hard top,, Intake for the 409 mtr. Rims,,rear tires,,sidepipes, used custom front airdam that came in kit. Painted w/ Testors quickdry enamel. Hand painted interior. Kit came w/opening doors,,but they took alot of sanding+ size/fit work to get them to close decently. Hand painted sidetrim work as well. No BMF anywhere on this,,just taped it off w/tamiya tape,,and painted it. I think its one of Chevy's best designed body styles. So unique. Enjoy all the works here,,keep on building!
  16. Started on a Cuda, but was immediately disappointed with the model quality, so I shelved that for this model. Decided to go with a metallic grape, with a white roof. Not breaking the creative meter, but my apprenticeship must continue before I start modding builds. I imagine I'll be heavy modding whenever I get a 3d printer. I finally found an affordable printer capable of 1/24 scale.
  17. I am trying to build a 55 Chevy gasser and would like it to have a removable front clip. How could I do this? The kit is Monograms 55 Chevy Street Machine kit.
  18. Hi everybody, I am looking for some engine ideas for a few builds. First is an engine for a 37 Ford I want to build as a gasser style. I also would like to build a 66 Fairlane in a Pro Touring or restomod style. Next is a 66 El Camino. I'm thinking about possibly a different engine for my 99 SVT Cobra but I may stick with stock. Finally is for a 1992 Firebird. 1992 is the year I was born and would like to build it as sort of a dream car/ birthday gift.
  19. So, I'm building the MPC Vending Machine kit, which is a replica of the 1:1 car. On the full-size the starter is mounted above the top of the block, it looks like: the kit has the starter mounted down on the driver's side of the block so I'll need to correct that...but I'm not an expert on SBCs at all...is the placement in the pic above standard for a particular year of SBC, or something custom for this one car? I'm trying to find some reference material to work out the proper placement and blankets and stuff...
  20. Greetings from Mtr Cty,, a recent 10$ find at a swap meet,,AMT's 55' Chevy Cameo. Such a beautiful body design,,and trim ect. Added a few "improvised" { AKA "Scratchbuilt"} bits,,rims,,headrests,,tires. Although the width of the top of the bed//front is wider than the cab rear. Not sure about the tooling on that one. Still a fun +simple kit to do. Sprayed w/Testors Quickdry laq,,,Burnt orange. Just a cruiser w/the 265 stock mtr,,nothin major. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program,,Cheers!
  21. This is my first stock front suspension car that I’m attempting to build. I’ve had the kit for a while and decided to start on it
  22. Built this awhile back. Came out really nice. This was a really good kit and a pleasure to build. 1 (205) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (206) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (207) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (208) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (209) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  23. My first build of 2018. I need a break from chrome, now! I added a frenched antenna, parts box wheels, modified grill and used a mask, for the flames. A Detail Master PE set topped it off. I hope you like it
  24. Attached are a few pics of a project I've worked on for a couple of years and am now nearing completion. I like 4drs. Mostly so I can build my police car models but also because they are just so very rare in offerings from the styrene tyrants. This was a bit of a rough one. I used a promo for the base and unbeknownst to me, these promos are evidently injected in some kind of ABS or something NOT styrene. SO, you can't just work with grafting on styrene to build what you want. It all has to have styrene superglued to it as a base to work off of. Still, it is finally about done. I modified the tub, modded the rear bumper to create the four tailight base version over the six one on the Caprice. Another scrap grill donated the "Chevrolet" script for the header panel and I added the Bal Air's Chevy Bow Tie to the center of the grill. Make some door mirrors and find some button caps and it's done. Thanks for looking..
  25. I am looking to build a replica of my 1984 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 service truck (ex Fire Truck). I plan to scratch built the bed and I am using the AMT Wrecker and the 1984 Chevy(Fall Guy truck) to get the parts needed to look right. However, I need a 454. I have looked at Hobbylinc and I can find several with a 409, and tons with a Small block(ie 350 or 327) but no 454(or 366) Big Blocks. Can anyone suggest a kit that would have a good 454? I don't care if it has a blower, but as close to stock as possible would be nice, however I will work with what I can get. I just don't want a tiny small block in my truck.
