I still rue the day, in early 1974, when I stopped to see a life insurance prospect (a soon-to-graduate University student), who had in his driveway a Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing (this was in early 1974!).  It had just a couple of rust holes, but needed an engine rebuild, so I declined the offer to sell it to me for $2,700--knowing at the time (or so I thought!) that getting that engine rebuilt would cost as much as the asking price for the car!).   A year later, Mercedes Benz USA put out the word that they would, in honor or Mercedes-Benz' 80th anniversary in the automobile business, would rebuild ANY older M-B engine free of charge--if the owner paid the shipping from their home to New Jersey and back again.  Oh well, my "I snoozed, I loozed"!

Connie Ewards owned the stash of Spanish built ME-109's, aka Buchons, that he acquired when they finished filming The Battle Of Britain movie. He also scored a Spitfire and a few others. Recently decided to sell the collection off.

Ummmm....  I think that Superbird is the one my uncle Bobby sold to some guy in the 90's/2000's.  It looks identical down to the wrecked front.  So the guy that bought it hasn't done anything with it either?

I don't see rust, looks like dirt and grimy stuff.

Adding a tail light was a popular owner mod in those days. Listen to "Dead Mans Curve", -"my six tail lights".

I wish I had a barn!

I wonder if the red 250 GTO on the trailer is the one that was stolen out of the yard about 25+  years ago  in Cincinnatti Ohio.(There were dozens of antique cars in the place ,,,BUT  it wasnt in the best of areas if you catch my drift )

Not so much a barn find but.... In the late 70s, about 10 houses down from my parents a really nice guy had a 100% original 69 Boss 429 up on blocks, stored in his garage. I am guessing the mileage was under 50k. I don't remember that part. He had it there for years. The polyglass Goodyears were set to the side. The radiator was drained and put aside as well. The gas was drained too. There was even an extra cam in a box.  He said he was saving it for his kids college. He was a pretty young guy. He had bought it from the original owner when he was just out of High school with money he had earned himself and he used it as his second car. I used to always talk with him if he was out front. Once he was ready to put it back together so we could take it for a ride, but that never happened. Too bad. He moved away and took the car with him.

I don't if he ever sold it. I always told him I would save the money to buy it. I bought a house instead.

I found a rust free 1970 Chevelle sitting in a garage about 18 years ago. Stopped in one day to ask about it and was going to offer the owner $2500. I assumed he would laugh in my face and tell me to get lost. Turns out the owner just lost his job and it was a Friday, he wanted to go drinking with the boys. I asked what he wanted, he said $100. I have the car to this day sitting in storage waiting to be restored.

My uncle Bobby had a private stash of cars that he just left to rot.  Typically he'd buy a car cheap, then once it developed a few problems he'd park it and get another one.  Let me see if I can remember some of them:

1968 Road Runner (sat so long in the weeds it split in half when they pulled it out)

1970 Chrysler 300

1969 Nova (straight 6, got it from my Dad's side of the family)

1970 Plymouth Superbird (Looked just exactly like the one above)

1976 Buick Riviera 455

1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring (one of the last ones before he passed, could've been saved)

1963 Plymouth Valliant (my Grandfather's old car, along with the 1978 Volare/Aspen thing)

Several 70's Chrysler New Yorker/Newport cars

1973 Cadillac hearse

And a flotilla of Volvo's of various model and a few motorcycles.

I wish I could've gotten to some of them after he passed, but I had nowhere to store anything, and the person he sold all the land to just scrapped/crushed/burned everything that was left.

A '63 split window with snow tires ? I think I'm going to be ill.

And triple taillights!

Look at the bright side: You wouldn't be afraid to actually DRIVE the thing. B)

The owner of Sherman Parts body panel business bought a Superbird like the one in the above photo(440 4-v Torqueflight, same color, too) when he was a teen.Matter of fact he bought it twice-he sold it back to the prior owner when he panicked about not knowing how to fix the seized brakes. He was lucky that the car hadn't been sold again before he bought it back.It was eventually given a rotisserie restoration and he still owns it.
