cobraman Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Always trying to do something different with a Cobra for my collection . This is my idea of a kit car Cobra being prepared to be shipped to a customer . I could not find any photos to go by so I just winged it . Cobra is a AMT kit which was just put in primer . Crate was made with Basswood . They probably don't do it this way but what the heck will look ok on display . Comments good or not so good always welcome .
landman Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Whether they do it or not I like it. Crates, especially closed ones have a touch of mystery about them. I find it tells a story.
Jhedir6 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 To my shock, when I read the title of the thread, I was amazed it was not a build by Ray.....oh wait...... Love it Ray, break the mold baby, go for something different.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 That is one of the coolest models I've ever seen.
Pat Minarick Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I like it! Was thinking about something similar.
afx Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I like it Ray but you may have to adjust your back story a little, from Friedman's book Shelby Cobra. Maybe a Cobra being shipped off for restoration.
cobraman Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 Thanks for the kind words guys. Glad you like it. That Jeep in the crate is way cool and sure would be a cool project.
Rider Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Very cool. I had to check the form to make sure I was in the finished section. I like this a lot, but I truly thought is wasn't finished.
TooOld Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Great idea Ray , it looks good ! Having built crates to ship Cobra kits I can say that you're actually on target . The entire floor of the crate is actually a large pallet that's completely bolted together (no nails) . The frame would be bolted to the pallet and then the body would be bolted down to the frame . The crate was then built around the body and boxes of parts would be packed in and around the body , probably some tie down straps added , and the crate would be shipped by a private carrier such as Reliable transport . No way it would survive going commercial freight .
stavanzer Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Your Build is just Too Cool! Great Idea, and even better execution.
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Very cool. You definitely have some interesting ideas for doing cobra themed models. Well done.
Phildaupho Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 This definitely a really neat modelling project. I did once saw a Factory 5 Cobra in its shipping crate and thought it was very interesting to see.
Dann Tier Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 This was a BRILLIANTLY creative idea, excellently built!!!
1930fordpickup Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I guess this is thinking inside the box. I like this a lot.
Mark IV Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 (edited) This is how our Caterhams "kits" are shipped. Note that the crate contains neither umbrellas nor wineglasses! Edited March 6, 2018 by Mark IV added
cobraman Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 Thank you very much to all of you. I am running out of Cobra ideas !
vamach1 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Cobra in a bottle. Cobra burned to the ground. Cobra limo. Cobra 4x4. Cobra in outer space. Cobra with a V10. Cobra pained mystic color. Unicorn Cobra. Lynn Park collection. The possibilities are endless.
mecklm Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Cool idea! You did a great job capturing the real deal. I found these pics that show a real Cobra in the crate. Mike
