HHHmmmmmm...

Looked at The HAMB where I had a lot of pictures, same thing as before, nothing has returned. Same BS about 3rd party hosting .

I don't get why some would work and some not.

Those jerks ruined several history threads I created, they are STILL RUINED!!!

Just looked at the FB site, it's exactly the same $399 for 3rd party hosting.NO CHANGES THAT I CAN SEE>
They might have a cheaper deal for low usage, but i didn't see it.

Guess you guys lucked out, NONE OF MY PICTURES HAVE BEEN RESTORED, money is still the same rip off?
Don't know what you guys are talking about.

It will be a VERY COLD DAY in H E double hocky stick's , before I will even view Photobucket's website again .... let alone store any picture's there ! ! !

The feedback I left on their customer service page is probably STILL , burning their ear's !

( I let Satan read the first line of my "Rant" ..... and He ran away..... crying ! )

I got an email from them for the much better pricing, probably going to take them up on it, I have a lot of stuff on their between my styrene and R/C stuff that would be easier to keep there, and I find it easier to use that Flickr too.

Some of my pictures are also restored...for now.
But I don't trust them yet so the future will tell...I have paid for a Fotki account just in case as they were a lot cheaper than what PB asked.

I agree, PB was easier to use than most of the hosting sites,   Flickr makes doing anything tedious , the one thing that I like about Flickr is the image size options for when you post the photos on a forum, that cut out the middle man of  resizing before uploading.

Imgur isnt bad , using that one too.

Good to hear that somebody came to there senses and that all the photos are back but . . .  I  closed my account and they will NEVER get me back no matter what they do !

DITTO!

i cancelled my account long while ago, and i will never go back. they made our pictures not view-able for too long. I believe they thought they were too popular and people would give in and pay them.

be like everyone else and do advertising and make money with ads. that is how google, facebook and the rest of them made their money (at least initially)

I went into my PB files to post two pics on another forum yesterday. It's still slow. In fact, I had to use two different browsers and it took me 20 minutes to post ONE picture to the forum and I never was able to post the other. Worse, all the ads and junk running ate up so much memory that they basically locked my computer up completely. After I got the one pic posted, I just gave up and restarted the computer to clear it up.

And the cycle begins again.

People blocking ads, and taking away a big source of revenue for them, is what caused them to raise the rates in the first place. Granted, they are one of the worse sites for ads.

I copied all of my photos off their site as soon as the rate increase was announced, but left them there on the free account they provided. Now that they have removed the block on photos that had already been utilizing 3rd-party hosting, my threads should all be restored. Not many here, but a fair amount on aquarium and photography boards I have been on in the past. The folks that deleted all of their photos on Photobucket with the "I'll show them attitude" have now essentially destroyed their own threads.

I doubt I will ever go back to paying Photobucket (Fotki has been working well for me), but I will leave what I already had stored there. It's free, so it sure isn't hurting anything.

Good to know, hopefully they will be back aswell so I don't have to continue the moving of all my old pictures. But I have now paid for a Fotki account and will use that rather than the bucket for future photosharing.

Knock on wood! Fotki had its own issues not too long ago, but seems to have worked it out. Never know what the future will bring.

I have been a paid account holder at Fotki as long as I can remember. Happy with the service, ease of use and value received

Prior to the whole lockdown thing, ads had gotten so bad with their normal site that I would post pics that I had on there from my phone since their app works so much better than the site does, even with the ads on that app too!

I left my pictures on their servers just to contribute to their general overhead of operations. While I consider their actions in the past couple of years disruptive at the minimum, and short-sighted and damaging to the communities they served, it is good to see that not only are they offering the possibility of more reasonable pricing, but that they undid the damage of breaking all those links.

Those who have posted on this thread thinking they must subscribe to get their pictures back, this is not the case. They are serving your pictures up whether you ever do business with them or not. If they break the limks a second time this will destroy them once and for all. But no need to tell them "all is forgiven" by re-subscrbing...

This all strikes me as terribly funny, as a lesson in being cheap.

I had a paid account from very early on, so I never lost access to anything.

And with a paid account, you're not screwing them out of revenue by running adblock, and expecting something for nothing.

Granted, they said several times my grandfathered-in account was ending and I'd have to pay a higher (though finally not exorbitant) rate, but so far, they've been leaving my old account alone...and the $2.99 monthly fee just came out of my bank account again.

And so far, it's been WAY easier to just leave things as they are, rather than running off to a new server and having to re-post hundreds of pix.

So glad I PAID. Should be interesting to see what happens next.  ;)

That is great news. However, someone should probably copy all of the photos in Harrys threads now, and if there is room upload them to the Forum so that when and if a Photobucket debacle happens again the photos are not permanently lost.

I also agree that this would be a very smart thing to do.  Who knows when PB will go "Photobucket" on us again.  It would be nice to have Harry's photos hosted here on the forum. At least then they will last as long as the forum does.  I'm never going back to PB.  I left my free account alone so all my photos might show up in the old treads, but I'm not uploading anymore there.

Same here, I had a paid account starting around 2013, automatically deducted from my bank acct annually, and my account with them never did stop working - although a few random pictures in a thread here and there got nuked. They probably decided not to screw with paying members because it was at least some money rolling in.

so it's up and I can see my photos, do I have to subscribe to get my pics out ?

You never did. The site itself has been accessible for removal of your images even after the great debacle.

I used PB for hosting of firearms that I posted on several forums. When they started the $399/year fees I moved all my photos back tp my computer and told them to cancel my account, Took them 2 weeks to cancel my account. Since I no longer have an account I did not get new offer but I would not go back anyway. I don't trust their limited time offer !

I was on another site for a while and the word that PB stands for I will never say it again!!

As Bill said, those of us who understood the value in paying for a service we use never had any interruption of service, no need to transfer anything, and no reason to publicly lash out at a private company which had every right to ask people to pay after they'd been getting free service for many years.

Personally, I suspect it was all part of PB's plan to drive out the cheapskates who never had any intention of ever paying for service. From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense-- less volume, and only customers who pay for the service the use. :)

Great business model

They were posterior-wipes for doing it the way they did, but allowing the abuse of free accounts to go on so long was stupid too.

Anything worth having is worth paying for, and the adblockers run by folks who wanted the service for free BUT who resented the advertising intrusiveness, WHICH WAS A CONDITION OF GETTING FREE SERVICE, was what brought about the unpleasantness.

I have zero sympathy for people who get mad when something they've been getting for NOTHING is withdrawn, even though PB did it in a despicable way.
