Some think smearing cat-vomit on a canvas is just as valid an artistic endeavor. Ah yes the old "I am questioning the nature of art" ploy. That was passably clever the first time put a urinal in a gallery, but that was a hundred years ago, and it's as much a cliche as any unicorn painting, without the skill involved in painting a decent unicorn. And cliche is exactly what this is. It's the standard conventionally unconventional creation of people trying way too hard to distance themselves from the dirty masses, and you end up with something that is neither attractive, nor innovative. Like the Brits say, neither use nor ornament. Personally, if you're going to build a cliche, at least this one has the virtue of being attractive, which is how it got to be a cliche in the first place. 1 hour ago, Ace-Garageguy said: There are those who just aren't cut out to be car designers. True, but I'm willing to give people points for trying. This was just some clown going, "Ooo, lookit me, I ruined a Corvette! I am so EDGY!"
misterNNL Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Those fall under the heading of "Just because you CAN do something doesn't you SHOULD"!
BeakDoc Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 If I drove that thing in a dream I’d wake up and get a tetanus shot.
Joe Handley Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Those to car-truck abominations would make great tannerite fodder.
Chuckyg1 Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Saw this at a car show in Rhinebeck NY last year. This one could probably be kitbashed. Started life as a Dodge Magnum. Notice how they changed the contour of the rear roof line without any body mods. you gotta appreciate the body work, whether you like the end result or not. I think the front end works better then the rear.
GaryR Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Most "customs" were very ugly, even in the 50's. Most people just don't have the eye or the talent for design. These are just, er......dumb in my book. Made it about 10 in. Some BAD photoshops there too. don't think I'll be building any of these!
peteski Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 I glanced at the subject line and figured that I'll leave my 5 cents here too. I don't think I will ever get tired of my "normal build subject". I build a wide rage of kits in scales from 1:220 to 1:6, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, some SciFi, ships, aircraft, and others. I'm also into model trains and electronics. I also spent too much time on my computer (and I'm not even on Facebook). Currently I am working on bunch of model railroad related projects (including an animated and illuminated Merry-go-Round model for an N scale carnival). If anything, I have too many projects going on. Never bored!!
Motor City Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Geez ... I thought this was going to be a topic on the latest iteration of a Chevelle or Camaro model kit (Yenko, COPO, etc.). Some of these customs must have been the inspiration for the Aztek, Rendevous, Prius, Element, Juke and other beauties of the past few decades!

While you have to admirer the builders ability to blend all of the different styling elements together in a somewhat smooth transition, that still doesn't mean that you should.
OneTrickPony Posted October 18, 2018 Author Posted October 18, 2018 Sorry if this topic offended some of you. It was meant to be a funny look at some really messed up cars, not a slam on your favorite builds. I'll go back to lurking in the background now. Heaven forbid I should ever try to brighten your day with a little humor again. DJ
Oldcarfan27 Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 DJ, Don't be upset, I don't think it was a slam on your thread. We got your irony on the topic, Yes that Corvette is a mashup of leftover parts, the guys were commenting on the original creators, not your input. The whole idea of this forum is to get people's feedback, which you did - in spades! I'd say, you got their interest, so your thread was successful.

Speedfreak Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Man, when I saw that pic (the one that started the thread) it just cracked me up.
Greg Myers Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Ya Gotta admit, Dave, ya really got the juices flowin' here. Sometimes there are a few here that just have to bellyache about everything not knowing where their "Move on" button is. Thanks for keeping the board alive.

I am enjoying the thread because I've never really thought about looking up mashups like these. It opens up the imagination which is never a bad thing(my wife says i ain't right anyway), even if I wouldn't even consider trying to replicate. If some are offended, so be it.

Spex84 Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 I love a terrible idea, executed well That charger roofline actually looks awesome with the '60 Chrysler fins and taillights! The rest of it...well, I'll just appreciate the builder's ambition and sense of humor!
Chuckyg1 Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Go to the web site on the back window of the magnum to see his other "creations"
Richard Bartrop Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 I actually like it. it has a nice '60s show car vibe, and the old parts are actually pretty well integrated with the new ones.
NYLIBUD Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Wow some of these cars, for lack of a better word, are just weird,to say the least.Who and why do people do this to cars????

Because this is America - and they can! We can build and drive any kind of car we want, even if it is ugly. At least these ones are still being used, not out rotting in some field, junkyard or farmers porch rusting away, waiting to be touched again. Now as for "artistic sense and good taste", that's not for everybody.
Richard Bartrop Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 To be fair, the guy who designed that was trying to design a safe car. Looks weren't a priority.
