The only one I can think I remember , was an Airfix 1/32 kit from the 1960s. I think it was a Lotus-Cortina MK1. As I say I think I remember it but it was a long time ago and I am now quite old !

When Tamiya were doing their classics (Alfa, Jags etc) I was hoping they would do one but they didn't continue the series.

Here's the Airfix 1/32 scale Lotus Cortina. They also did a Ford Zodiac in the same series. Back in Feb., a mint, bagged Cortina kit sold on eBay for $69.03 with 12 bids, plus $12 shipping from the UK.

That's a Transkit, you need the Esci\Revell Escort kit to build it, the Motor museum in miniature will be a complete Resin kit in 1:24th scale, and will cost less than the Airtrax kit, even without the cost of buying the Escort kit to finish it off.

It's not available just yet, but should be ready later in the year, I'll have a word with Ian at MMiM later today to see if there's any progress on the kit, I've seen the bodyshell, and it really does look good, the Morris Minor kit was £80, I suspect the Cortina kit will be around the same price, they were limited to only 100 units.

There was also a 1/16 scale Cortina Mk.I 4 door sedan, first produced by FROG in the early 60's. All the FROG car kits are hard to come by, but you never know.

Some Cortinas would be cool. I love the mk IIs. What I have never understood, is why no one (that I know of) has ever made a kit of the mk I Capri?

I think Airfix had a Mk 1 Capri - again in 1/32 scale, and someome made a German Capri group 5 racer but I dont remember who....

Thanks for the information, Geoff of Solihull, England and I look forward to the availability of a 1:24 scale Ford Cortina MK1.

Way back in 1970 the car that I passed my driving test in was a MK 1 Cortina belonging to my Dad, and he bought me a Ford Anglia 105E as my first car ever.

I have a resin body for an Anglia 105E in 1:24 scale but cannot find a 1:24 Cortina anywhere, apart from the the Airtrax Lotus Cortina MK1, which is a two door body and my Dad's Cortina was a 4-door.

The MMiM release sounds very interesting to me and I would love to get my hands on one if possible, later this year?

Odd that Airfix doesn't tool up some of these iconic British vehicles in 1/24th scale.

I've asked them about it at Scale Model World. They want to have "ranges" in their catalogue (ie 1/72 aircraft), so they would have to tool up a minimum of three. Personally, I think a state of the art E-Type coupe, DB4/5/GT and Series 3 Land rover would have done it (they missed the boat on the Mini and with Belkits' Escorts). But even more, I wonder why they don't do more in 1/32. They have some good old (1960/70s) kits in the toolbank, and the Hornby Group has plenty of research and 3D data over in the Scalextric designers office that could be deployed for Airfix kits. Licensing is apparently also an issue, but it doesn't seem to be (such) a problem for Revell, Tamiya, Beemax, Belkits and so on...

From what I learned 1/32nd scale is a dog in automotive kits, only "support" vehicles to put in a diorama with 1/32nd scale planes have a better outlook.

Also, I perfectly understand that in this day and age, multiple versions are needed to make ROI, and they are possible an Mk-1 Capri was mechanically based on an Mk-2 Cortina, and the Capri had a facelift in '72....so in IMHO there are possibilities, one just has to research,  the real reason is probably that there are no car guys in their R&D team.
